> [RP] Mortimer Castle

Viceroy
Viceroy held onto her tightly. "Alright, let's go find them. I know Michael and Angela will have done their best. I hope everyone is okay," he said starting to walk back to the castle. It had been a day. The sounds of battle had started to fade and the eery stillness of the aftermath was starting to pour in. A distant laugh was heard in the distance.
Drestakil
Drestakil looked into her eyes. His own felt like lumps of hot coal. How to tell someone who had been sheltered from the worst that there is evil in the world? There are people and places where evil lives and thrives. He had seen more than enough of both.

However, there were people in this world who seemed evil, but weren't. He was very much afraid that Casimir fit that mold, that he was doing what he HAD to do. Drestakil had no idea what Viceroy had done in the past that caused the animosity Casimir had against him and the family. Drest breathed a deep sigh and thought back to a day many years ago, in southern France, when a man told him his wife was dead. That same man told Drestakil he was the killer and when Drest heard those words the world turned white. He came out of it a few minutes later looking at a dead man and bleeding severely. Drestakil didn't doubt for a moment that whatever Viceroy had done he had done "for King and country". Was that enough justification?

Michael was still standing off to one side. Pliny was out in the hall. Drest was about to put his arm around Ladygina's shoulders and try to come up with some comforting words when he spotted a shock of brown hair at the window sill. It rose and a face came into view. A young man's face. He looked into the room, saw Michael, then scanned the bodies, then he came to Ladygina and Drest. Seeing Drestakil looking him in the eyes, he hopped over the sill with drawn sword and ran to him. Another one leaped the sill right behind him, both of them looking alike, same hair, same eyes, same clothes.

Drestakil quickly stood, unsheathed his sword, and met the first one. Their blades rang against one another. His cut was deflected and the second one was on Drest. He blocked a thrust and swept his blade around to bite into the second one's thigh. He screamed in pain and fell to the floor just as the first one lunged wildly at Drest. Drest couldn't bring his blade around quickly enough to block the thrust. The blade went through his left side as Drest's blade sliced his throat open. The first one's eyes widened and he acquired such a peaceful expression, then his hand moved to his throat to try to stop the blood. He fell to the floor as Drestakil fell back onto the bench beside Ladygina.

Drestakil could feel the sword move in him as he sank back. He didn't feel any pain...strange...shouldn't a person feel pain when they were stabbed? That other time he had certainly felt pain. Not this time. Ladygina's eyes were wide with shock. He tried to say something, anything, but his voice wouldn't work. The world grew gray in front of him and he passed out.

As she was sitting there, fatigue catching up to her, worrying about the rest of her family, out there, somewhere, she saw someone at the window. Drest was up and before she knew it, there were two intruders inside and Drest was up and fighting them! She didn't know what to do, when suddenly, before she could think, Drest fell back onto the bench beside her, a sword in his side! She screamed as she watched him pass out. Not again! No! She couldn't take this!! "Drest!! Drest!! Please wake up Drest!!" was all she could yell. She saw blood everywhere and realized part of it was from the one Drest sliced open at the throat. She looked at Michael, and pleaded, "Michael, please, do something!!! Drest can't die!"

Her fathers words were shadowed, she felt that same feeling. In her heart she knew they would be lucky to find anyone alive as they had split up hours ago just before light fell to darkness. Even as they walked to the castle she felt ill prepared to discover the damages. Not servant or stranger passed, the air was void of voices and chaos, just the wind blew.

Maybe Kjol had gone to find help, Jarlath.. maybe he'd been captured or ran away, the others... she did not even want to begin to think on it.

The door she had been entering was broken, barely hanging on hinge. She could see the kitchen through the rough broken edges, flour and spices scattered across the counters and cabinets. Great cooking pans were on their sides, discarded into the corners of the room as she pushed at the frame of it open.

"Such a mess, look, everything we own is either burned or destroyed.." she began mumbling about pompous men and their brute-ish performances in the name of revenge, turning her fearful eyes to her father to say ".. I don't hear them, where could they be ? Where would they go?" she asked him. She wanted to call out to them but if there were anymore men then they would come running to kill them both if she gave up their position.

Michael ripped off part of his shirt and tried to create a bandage to at least slow the bleeding. "M'lady, this is gonna take some work. Do you know the nearest Doctor? I can only stabilize him for so long," he said putting pressure on the wound hoping to at least partially seal it.

Viceroy
"In the darkness, they will search for us as we search for them, my dear daughter. I am sure your uncle has made many a man regret coming to this castle today. Come, they will probably gather together. We should find them soon," he stated holding her hand.

Turning a corner, he saw Ladygina and Michael over the body of Drestakil. Raising an eyebrow, he asked, "What's the sitution?"
Ladygina
As she saw Michael rip his shirt and press it to Drest's wound, she felt panic start to sink in. She began shaking, and tears were falling silently down her cheeks. [quote="--Michael_Angelo""M'lady, this is gonna take some work. Do you know the nearest Doctor? I can only stabilize him for so long,"[/quote]
"No, I... I'm not familiar....", she stammered. Suddenly she saw Geo and Kenna standing in the doorway! Relief swept over her and she nearly passed out. Catching herself, she stood as Geo spoke,

She looked back at Drest, and trying to manage her breathing, spoke, her voice cracking, "Geo, so much has happened, but Drestakil has been stabbed. Two intruders came through the window as we were sitting in here, and Drest fought them off, but he took a sword in the side in the fight. Michael is putting pressure on the wound, but I don't know ..... Drest passed out. I can't wake him. He needs a Doctor." She looked at him, he had not seen Angela's body, nor the body of the killer... She had to warn him.
"Geo, I'm sorry....Angela is...Angela protected me, and she was killed. I...I killed her murderer. Their bodies are inside the room here." She gestured with her head...... She looked at Kenna then. She was alive....dirty, and shaken, and she had some cuts but she was alive! She couldn't help it, she burst into tears then, and ran to her cousin, throwing her arms around her. "Kenna! So much death this night...so many hurt. Are you alright?? What happened?? What are we going to do about Drest???" Her panic finally on the surface, she looked from Kenna to Geo, wide eyed scared......

Viceroy
Viceroy looked over everyone and his demeanor changed slightly. "Come, I need a few things to make sure he will safe for transport. Get me a needle, a clean set of sheets, and we can all move," he stated.

His commanding voice shook her from her panic, and she moved in to action. She ran to the bed in the room with the bodies of Angela and her tormentor, barely looking at them. She snatched the bedding off of it and walked back to Geo. "Here Cousin, these are freshly clean. The servants changed all the sheets yesterday and no one has even sat upon this bed yet." She walked over to the chiffarobe and opened a drawer, drawing out a sewing kit. She took the only needle she had and took it to him. "Here, this is all I know of that we have." She waited for him to give her more instructions if he needed anything else.

Viceroy
Viceroy set to work on Drestakil and was patiently, but quickly sewing him up and doing a quick stop to the gash. Hoping his skills would be of as much help as possible, he concentrated steadfastly.

She had expected the worst, but it was the realization of what was before her that caught her words in her throat like a spiders web. Gina was so wide eyed and nervous, her words launched like arrows. Kenna could only look down at her uncle, the blood in the room, the people laying there..

She felt dizzy and faint again. She slid into a near chair, something sticky on her hand. She lifted it, blood.. red...deep red..

They were moving around her, she could hear them talking, her father asking Gina for help. She couldn't look past her hand. So much blood. She'd never seen so much, not since she'd served the army in Birmingham.

She slumped in the chair, her eyes fluttered, and she still saw nothing but red before she tried to say "Gina.. are you ok?" in a mere whisper as everything faded around her.

She watched Geo work on Drest, trying to stitch his wound and keep him alive. She felt as if she were in a fog. She was ready if he needed anything, but she felt disassociated to the situation. So much had happened. So much death, so much blood. She looked at Kenna as she sat down on a chair. The chair was bloody. She saw Kenna look at her hand, then go pale. She saw her lips move in a whisper but she couldn't tell what she was saying. Then Kenna's eyes fluttered shut, and it seemed the young woman fainted. Gina got up quickly and ran to the chiffarobe and reached into the still open drawer where she had gotten the sewing kit, and pulled out some smelling salts. She walked back to Kenna and waved the little bottle beneath Kenna's nose. She spoke gently to her, "Kenna, cousin, wake up. Come on, stay with me. Your father may need our help. Come on, be strong for me, Kenna." She herself was feeling fatigued and faint, but she knew she had to be strong and ready to help. Kenna must wake up. She could not do this without her......

As if being brought into the light as quickly as it had faded, she blinked while shrugging away from the smell that filled her senses, making her nose twitch. She sat up and stared at Gina, seeing the tired and worried expression etched upon her face. She looked at her hands, still silent from waking and looked back at Gina. She had not answered any questions her cousin had asked, she could not focus to do so.

"Forgive me, I.. I think maybe this day has left me weak in spirit and in body" she wanted more than anything to wash the blood away from her hands and have a good cry, but now just wasn't the time. She was worried for her family more than herself. Gina had said Angela was dead, Drest lay just in front of them, bleeding now..

She slid back out of the chair by taking Gina's hand, keeping the other held up as if it were infected, looking around at the mess in the room one more time as if she were lost. She began speaking calmly, with grief heavy in her heart.

"Father we need to do something, we can't just stay here and wait for them to come back. We are ill prepared if they choose to do so, half of our servants have fled, our horses are running in the fields, our grains and feed are burned to ashes along with out stables and supplies... " she looked at the man who lay on the floor, a prisoner who seemed to be sleeping, distracted for a moment ".. I could go..." she announced.

What? Go where? You know he is out there.. her thoughts seemed to scream, but they had no other options. If she did not alert the militia, find someone at the church, gather helping hands... they could all be found slaughtered by morning.

"I could go for help, I know the roads, I know the people, if not that then let us ready a few things and we can all go into town and take Drest somewhere safe so he can recover till we can come back and rebuild.." her eyes turned fierce in the candle light "...if nothing more than that, we owe it to Angela to seek justice for her murder, and I may be speaking out of order father, but we must do something" Kenna bit her tounge, knowing that she had already said enough.

She watched Kenna come to her senses, somewhat. She still looked dazed as she stood and looke about the room.
She spoke of her going to get help, and Gina immediately protested.
"No! You cannot leave us Kenna! There may be more out there than inside, laying in wait for us to leave alone, and one by one, take us down. We need to assess the situation, this much I know." She wished Geo would just tell them what to do. She normally was a leader but in this situation, she was definitely a follower......

Viceroy
Viceroy looked around his hands bloodied and the injury as contained as possible. "Kenna, dear, let me worry about the madmen. Take your uncle someplace safe. If you need, Arundel is usually safe. He needs a doctor to fix up anything I haven't," he said calmly... almost too calmly.
