Sounding a little stronger, Drest said,
Drestakil wrote:
"You're wasting your time taking me to Sussex. If it's infection you're worried about, anyway. I've never had a wound infected since that time years ago when I got a stomach wound. I can assure you, the best thing you can do for me is to take me back to Mortimer Castle. If you keep trying to take me to Sussex, I'll just come right back there."

She smiled at him and said, "Well, Cousin, 'tis your niece who is leading the horses, so you will have to talk to her about the direction we take."
He chuckled and said,

"Besides, how am I going to explain to Mezz that I was with two pretty girls, one married, for days and nothing happened. Even I don't believe it. I can just hear her now-'...and one of them was your NIECE! FOR SHAME Drest! Don't try to tell me nothing happened!'

Laughing, which felt genuinely good, she said, "Surely Mezz would never think you would do anything improper with your niece and cousin?!? She must know you are loyal to only her", she said.
Then, looking at Kenna, she said,
"How much farther to Sussex Kenna?"

Viceroy
"The trial will happen in a few days. We are arranging it. During the trial, you'll need to keep an eye on him as well," he comments.
Chandrea
Nodding in response to his introduction, the young woman took a slight step backwards when he came to talk baby talk to Lace. She raised one eyebrow slightly. He must be a dog person - everyone knew that you talked to cats the same way you talked to another person. Well, at least he wouldn't think badly of her for cuddling Lace. "My name is Chandrea. Pleasure to meet you both."

Turning to their employer, Chandrea nodded again. "Yes, Sir. I'm sure that we will do our best." Huh, it seemed that she had become their spokeperson. Interesting. Maybe that meant that the two men would respect her and not treat her oddly because she was female. If so, it would definitely be worth putting up with Shamgar's oddness.
Viceroy
Viceroy nods. "Trust me... you'll need to. It would be easy just to outright kill him... but ... that won't solve it. He needs... justice," he comments. "Do you need some milk for your friend," he asked quickly.
Shamgar
"Yeah. We'll do good." This I muttered to myself, in a way to encourage rather than anything else. I still had my eye on Ignatius who was watching us with an amused look on his face. Quite obviously he didn't think too highly of me, nor my companion. Which was fine with me, really, I mean, I wasn't the one going on trial for murder.

I glanced at the cat and gave it a small grin. I was tempted to go talk to it again, but remembered my place, it was humiliating enough to scream in the dark and cower away from a killer.

Come on, he was only a murder...

"I can assure you, the best thing you can do for me is to take me back to Mortimer Castle. If you keep trying to take me to Sussex, I'll just come right back there."

He chuckled and told Gina, "Besides, how am I going to explain to Mezz that I was with two pretty girls, one married, for days and nothing happened. Even I don't believe it. I can just hear her now-'...and one of them was your NIECE! FOR SHAME Drest! Don't try to tell me nothing happened!'

Kenna scoffed at her Uncle's suggestion and shook her head. In full agreement with Gina she told him "See you need to rest, Lady Mezz would never suggest such foolery was afoot. If she knows anything, she knows we will take nothing but the best care of you, besides, one more town and we are within the border and I will pen her to have her come look after you. I would have thought of that myself were I not so tired. Besides, nothing can be done uncle. When you are cleaned up and prepared for travel we can make the journey home.."she leaned against the backboard of the seat to rest. Her lower back started to ache.

Viceroy looks to the two. "He''ll need to be moved since the case is starting in a few days. When you two are ready, take him and journey to the court room cell for temporary holding. Good luck," he stated tossing the cell key to the spokeswoman. He turned and started to head out.
--Ignatius_casimir
Ignatius watched the keys being exchanged with great intrigue. This meant they were going to be opening the doors now. Maybe, if he played his cards right, his luck might just change. He looked between the two of them, not focusing until his eyes fell on the back of the man he hoped to see dead and called out just loud enough for him to hear "I'll be seeing you old man..I'll..be.. seeing..you" his tone was almost sing song, filled with a threat all in the room could hear.

A small smile crossed her face, but she shook her head at the offer of milk. Lace was spoiled enough, and the young cat had learned that milk meant they were some place safe. Somewhere she could wander to her heart's content. While they were were working this wasn't a good plan, especially with the ill concealed malice their prisoner was displaying.

Catching the keys carefully, Chand looked at her companions. She was still a bit unsure how much help they were going to be, but she was willing to at least give them the benefit of the doubt. After all, as capable as she was, it was going to be more than she could handle to transport their prisoner anywhere by herself. Especially one who still had the courage to threaten their employer while behind bars.

The young woman gave Lace one last pat and whispered in her ear, "Be still Little One. We're working, but I'll find somewhere you can roam for awhile when we get more settled." Seeming to understand, the cat quieted and allowed her mistress to put her back in the pack. Straightening and resuming her "working" face, Chandrea placed her hand on her sword in an unconcious gesture and looked at her fellow guards. "Are we ready?

Looking at Drest, she said, "See? Now, please, let us get you to Sussex and get you looked at."

Drestakil
"I don't seem to have much of a choice, now do I?" Drestakil said as he looked at them. He chuckled, "Oh well, it could be worse. I could be enjoying the gentle, considerate treatment of Ignatius Casimir about now. If his henchmen had anything to say in the matter, I'd be swapping lies with the Dev-...er- with some old acquaintances in a certain warm place. To Sussex and we'll see if they have any medicine that can heal me any faster than my body does anyway."

Drestakil laid back in the carriage and looked up at the blue sky passing by overhead. Tree branches curled across his view and he could hear the thud of the horse's hooves on the ground as they patiently and steadily pounded a path to Arundel. Drest fell asleep and dreamed troubled dreams.

She was glad her cousin had decided to stop arguing with them about going to Sussex. She noticed that he had dozed off again, and she placed her hand upon his, hoping that if he woke, he would know she was nearby, and she and Kenna were doing everything they could to get him to safety and to see to it he was give the proper care he deserved. Looking up at Kenna, she noticed how she leaned back against the backboard. She knew the young woman was near the point of exhaustion, as she herself was. But they pushed on...they had to. Their family needed them both to be strong. But she noticed something about Kenna....she kept putting her hand upon her stomach....Gina couldn't help but wonder...was her cousin with child?? She had noticed a slight glow to her face before all the chaos had erupted at the Castle.....surely if that were the case, Kenna would have shared that sort of news with her.....unless she was waiting to tell them all together....... Maybe it was just a nervous stomach from all the turmoil she had been through tonight. Gina herself felt sick at the thought of all her family had endured this night. Ah well, once they had Drest safe and cared for, she would ask Kenna...it would be a blessing if she were with child. A little miracle in all the mess they had seen...She said a silent prayer that Jah keep His hand over them and guide them all to safety....

Shamgar
I nodded in reply, sliding my sword about an inch from his scabbard to make sure it was loose. "Yeah, let's get this." I took position on one side of the door whilst Yven took the other, covering to make sure the guy didn't make a run for it as soon as Chandrea opened the door.
By this time, I had regained the majority of my courage that had fled when I first entered this place, and now I was able to look the prisoner in the eye, "Try anything, and I won't have qualms about cutting you down." I managed out in what I hope was a brave voice, I wasn't going to let sleeping dogs lie, especially when right before they went to sleep they watched me humiliate myself. I would give those canines a nasty kick and show them the truth.

But wait...isn't he supposed to have shackles? Are we opening the door and leading him into the courtroom without shackles? What kind of madmen do that?

I considered....

Us, apparently. Madwoman included.

Which was fine, I wasn't about to show this man that I would run as soon as he stepped out of his cell.
--Ignatius_casimir
Ole 'Nat couldn't help himself. He put both of his hands on his hips, kicked the ropes to the door with his foot and let out a grown man's chuckle from the pit of his stomach that rolled out his mouth with the air of a challenge to the three young souls before him.

"You sure? You're ready? All of you, right? Well come on in, children. I promise I won't hurt you.." he winked at the girl and wiggled his eyebrows at the other two. He'd unbound his hands an hour ago, just waiting for a moment like this.

Chandrea
Chandrea straightened her shoulders, trying to drive away the cold shiver of fear that was running down her spine. Jeepers, Shamgar was getting to her too. She couldn't allow that to happen - one of them had to be able to keep the prisoner in line. Her fear had almost subsided back into the hole it had crawled out from, when their prisoner laughed and called them children. Laughed. At them. She hated being laughed at. That was the one thing that could get to her. Her hands clenched briefly before she conciously relaxed them. If she showed him how angry it made her, he would simply continue to laugh. "Never give your enemy a hold over you" - that was what her instructor had said.

So, sending up a silent prayer to Jah for strength and protection, the young woman moved towards the cell door. She was grateful that the other two had taken up positions around the door, as she was none too sure that she would be able to pull her sword out in time if their prisoner decided to do something as she turned the key.

Almost to the door, Chandrea looked at the man, "Move away from the door, Sir." Though certain that this man didn't deserve the title of respect, she didn't want to offend him either. Not yet anyway. Not while there was still the posibility that he might behave properly for them. She stood waiting for the prisoner to comply with her order.
