Cordelia
Cordelia smiles weakly at her, "I thank ye for your confidence in me, tis more than I have right now." She takes a sip of her tea, using that moment to compose herself.

As Cordelia sips her tea, Gina sits in silence. The moment is awkward, for she knows not what to say to Cordelia. She is confused over the whole conversation. Since she has not seen Geo since the wedding, and he was fine then, she could not wrap her mind around the idea of him not being himself. So, she did not know how to comfort his wife. Nor did she know if comforting was what Cordelia needed. But that was the confusing part. Gina had no idea what she needed. Nor why she came here and confided in her. Did she come here for comfort? Did she come here for advice? What?
Gina tried to put herself in Cordelia's shoes. Now that she was going to be a Mother, would she be able to carry on if something happened to Dranoel? Would she lose her sanity as Cordelia said she feared she would? Or would she be strong for her children? Gina thought she would most definitely carry on and be there for her children. No matter what, they would need her. 'Twould not be fair for them to lose both parents. She would be devastated, of course, but, she would carry on, somehow. That was Gina's hope at least. But, everyone was different, so what might be true for her, may not be true for Cordelia.

Drestakil
Drestakil rode down the shaded lane to the Castle. Odd how even in his thoughts he capitalized the word...'Castle'. Not Mortimer Castle, not The Castle, not The Family Estate, although it was all those and more...to the Mortimers, anyway. It was a symbol of the Family, a symbol of their strength, their loyalty to one another, their love for one another. A member of the family could ask and expect to receive, help, food, clothing, a strong shoulder to carry a burden, a soft shoulder to cry on.

When Casimir and his men attacked the Castle, they little expected the welcome they got. All of his men were killed except one...Casimir himself had suffered through a trial. Drestakil himself had accounted for three. He chuckled to himself, since the third one had almost sent Drestakil to his heavenly judge. He chuckled again...maybe not so heavenly.

He rode down the shaded lane and couldn't escape the feeling he was being followed. He looked back every so often, but never saw anyone or anything out of order. He was tired more often, that was true. Was this because he was less active than formerly or because he was getting older? Probably some of both. 'Face it, Old Man,' he thought, 'the years are getting closer and closer together. Remember your father when he was the age you are now? He could barely walk, had to be helped from the bed to the table. You aren't close to that, but you can feel it, can't you? ...Feel it in your bones. You don't have the energy you used to have. You can't fight as long as you used to fight. Your sword is getting heavier each time you draw it. Horrors! You might have to trade in the two-handed sword for a lighter one.'

Another thought entered his mind as he came up to the Castle gate. What had happened to Pliny and Sindaia?

She sets her teacup down, she could see some confusion on the other woman's face. "I am sorry I brought this problem to your lap, Gina. But I did not know where else to turn. The world has changed so much these past months. At times, I feel myself stumbling to catch up. Thank ye for listening." She meets Gina's eyes, trying to express her gratitude.

She meets the woman's eyes, and smiles in return, saying, "No thanks necessary. 'Tis what family, and friends, are for, no? Now, tell me, what are you hoping that little on you are carrying turns out to be? A boy or a girl? I think a boy would be nice, to carry on Geo's name, and since you have a daughter already. But, girls are nice to dress all in frills...." She rubbed her tummy wistfully. She didn't know which she wanted more herself....

Kennagillian
(On the road to the Castle)

Bart had visited the towns hall just before they left. He was of the impression that mail left better from town than by coin-in-hand neighbors. It was probably true, no doubt. She had managed to talk him into buying a few things in town just before they set off onto the path they had taken many times and because of that she had been lucky enough to intercept a messenger at the courthouse asking about them. He'd been carrying a letter. A letter with which had been sitting for two days with no one to bring them into the countryside.

Not many liked to travel the edge of town, you see. Someone had gotten drunk before and not being a town regular, they decided to say that Dorchester had a sea monster as opposed to the truth. Everyone knows the supposed "monster" was quite sweet so long as you were on your best behavior.

Well anyway, the letter was from Julyin. Nothing from the others yet, but an unexpected letter! How wonderful! Kenna had Mary on her hip and clasped her treasure in her hand as she rushed back to the carriage to show her husband.

He smiled, knowing she was ever so pleased and took Mary into the seat with him while she sprawled out in the back to settle in and read.

"One letter was already full of surprises, expecting a baby?! Would never have guessed it, but I suppose I should 'ave. It's not like after you get married you are committed then to still hold hands and nothing more. I do know a thing or two about that" she sighed and rolled her eyes a little. Sure as the sun if she could see her husbands face he would be smiling, the evil toad.

She went wide eyed at the handwriting, never before had she seen his writing. He used a fine style of lettering, scholarly, educated. It was impressive. She couldn't describe the overwhelming emotion of knowing that this man, this sender of letter, was family and had thought enough of their brief meetings to actually sit and say a piece to her about whatever this was.. oh yes, get on with reading it! She was almost too excited to carry on.

"(clears her throat) ...To my family, scattered though they be across the land,I hope this missive finds all of you well, your endeavors successful, and your travels safe. Well, isn't he sweet and thoughtful, such an elegant opening I would say..I am happy, in these hard times, to be writing with good news to share. Yesterday, on the twelfth of June, Penelope de Grey became my wife in a small civil ceremony.Recently, I had informed some of you that the wedding between the Lady de Grey and I would be postponed. However, given my propensity for sudden decision changes, I asked Penelope to marry me in a small civil ceremony. I was reluctant to wait, not knowing the length of time that will require my absence from her side. My only regret is not being able to have you all there." Kenna furrowed her brow, having slowed down many times to struggle with the facts as they came out with her voice in his words of what had taken place. Though she had understood clearly, it had not helped the drop of her heart into her throat and the sinking peculiar feeling that began to stir in her mind.

"You did just hear me, Bart, you did just hear what was said" she said, and Bart nodded.

"Married without his family there? I just.. well I have heard of it before but I can not imagine why. We would have come, you know" and of course Bart knew because he was the same fellow who had just agreed to pack his wife and house and move for the coming months until Gina gave birth or as long as it took to see to it that everyone was satisfied. He was a good husband. Even now in his silence he was being good because he knew that Kenna needed to talk it out or else she would not make any sense of it.

...and because she was now determined to get to the end she read the rest to herself.

We will be making a trip to Mortimer Castle in the coming days, and I would hope to see some of you there. It has been too long since I have heard from many of you, and with these worrying times upon us, I hope to keep in contact with each of you. Though, Jah knows I have not been gifted with the ability to write an interesting and compelling letter! Best that we meet in person, and with my travels through England, it may yet be possible.

I hope and trust that you all remain well.

Warmest regards,
Juliyn

She folded it up and pulled herself up in the seat next to her husband and daughter. She tucked the letter in her pocket and then clasped her hands in her lap. For most of his life, as she had, he had lived without them so far be it from her to judge his choice in wanting to go on with this wedding in the same way. Maybe it was because of the need to rush things, what with all this war and mayhem. Maybe it was because his lady wished it so. Bart would do anything she asked to a degree so with respect she could admire that. However, she felt disengaged and disheartened. In the place where she wanted to stand, the ideal place to see them look into each others eyes or share their first dance as man and wife.. well that place no longer existed. And surely in time she would get to know this Penelope girl. She could invite her over, maybe to have a sip on the rooftop as Gina and Kenna often do to commemorate a lucid moment in their lives. That is if the newlywed bride even wanted to know them. Though her father never said much, some from court had mentioned that there were words exchanged, none of favor, between he and her. She prayed now that with her commitment to Juliyn, the lady would accept their understanding and passionate views, let them love her as they do all people. Even the sort who may disagree with them. Only time will tell and with the ending of his very heartfelt letter he claimed they would be arriving at the Mortimer Castle.

She would use this time to show him what having a family really meant.

"If it is alright with you I am going to lay my head on your shoulder and rest while you carry us there..I am" she sighed and scooted over towards him"..tired" she laid against his arm and tucked her arm around Mary and his waist. He settled in with the two of his ladies and drove the horses onward.

Straight away he tied his horse at the post near the stables to have her tended and then took himself to the door.

Rapping thrice, he waited patiently for Lady Gina Sutton or her servant or maids to answer.

While he stood he noticed the gardens and the station of the stables. His Lord was right, when he returned home he would have his work cut out for him.

Not a nap for quite awhile, no sir, he thought. He shoved his hands in his cloak and scratched his arm nervously.

Drestakil
'Now who is that?' Drest questioned. A man standing at the door waiting to be let in. Obviously not family, since most of them would simply walk in. Drestakil rode at a quick trot through the gate and slid down from his horse, handing it off t a stable boy. As he walked toward the young man, he did a quick inventory...sword at his back, knives in their sheaths, quiver of arrows sticking up over his shoulder and a small double-curved bow at his side...he chuckled. 'Yes, I'm ready for company.'

The man turned toward him. Drest walked forward and tilted his head slightly, "Hello, Sir. Do you seek someone in the Castle?"

Before Cordelia could answer her question, Lady Gina heard a rap at the front door. Knowing Lorilye was busy with .... well, something, as the woman always was, and because of the awkwardness of the earlier moments, Gina decided to see who had come calling herself. Smiling at Cordelia, she said, "Escuse me Cordelia, but it seems we have company. I'll just go see who it is." She gets up and makes her way to the door, pulling it open to reveal Bart and Kenna's retainer, Richard BoCock. She had met him a couple of times before, and he was always a funny, odd sort of man. But, what she saw behind him caused her a moment's alarm. Her cousin, Drest had come up behind him, and obviously not knowing who he was, had asked if he sought anyone in the Castle, and Gina spoke up, "Cousin, I see you have not had the pleasure of meeting Richard BoCock. He is Bart and Kenna's retainer, Cousin, so no need for your gruffness today, as he is definitely a friend." She smiled jokingly at Drest, and looked soothingly at BoCock hoping he wasn't too alarmed.
"Richard, please pay Drest no mind. He's really a softy on the inside. Now, please come in and tell me what brings you to the Castle today."
Stepping aside, she makes room for both men to enter, and gives her cousin a shake of the head. She knew it was just his protective manner, but sometimes....he seemed so gruff, and he really wasn't that gruff on the inside...

Edited to take out the bit about the sword because I misread, and to keep continuity Sorry about that guys!

Cordelia
Cordelia opens her mouth to answer when she hears a rapping and Gina excuses herself. Cordelia leans back into the couch, hand on her stomach, wondering if the child would be boy or girl.

(Actually, he has not pulled his sword....yet)

A man from behind him comes walking up with a question and without reserve, Richard turns to answer him but as he slightly pivoted on his foot he could get nothing to come from his mouth before the door opened and Lady Sutton answered for him.

His mouth still hung open. So had he not known well enough the sound of her voice, he might've though that WERE his voice, she answered with such speed and quickness.

He did shut it and swallow, nodding to the man with respect. This must be Lord Drestakil, no doubt. Although he expected someone much taller and more menacing. At least that's how the story had been drawn in his mind after having heard of the business of the evil and vile Casimir and then the trial.

He gulped back his withdrawing urgency to explain his attendance to the man, hoping Gina's explanation would be forth right and honest enough going on to tell her "Thank you my lady, it is as always a pleasure to see you, AND YOU SIR, good to meet your grace" he fumbled and then grew more sure of himself "I have come today by word of Lord O'Neill, ah.. or Bart as you may call him, to discuss business as he will soon arrive here himself, quite soon I should say" he said.

He came into the hallway and waited for the Lady and Lord to lead. He would follow them on into the Castle rooms at their leisure.

He noticed the arrows, the ties for the daggers and the glorious sword that was weighing down the man who had come up behind him.

My gods, he has every weapon imaginable strapped to him, he thought, eying the Uncle of his employers wife. He swallowed again, nervously.

Juliyn
As they neared the stables Juliyn maneuvered his horse into a quiet area, motioned to the groom and quickly handed off Emir so that he could spend a few quiet moments with Penelope.

He smiled at his love and tilted his cheek into her hand as she spoke of meeting his family.
While she didn't appear the least bit nervous, Juliyn couldn't say the same for himself.
Why, they'd practically eloped! And, if his letter hadn't reached those inside this castle, their first meeting of his wife would be quite a shock.
Even with the letter...
He wasn't nervous about Penelope, he had no doubt that she would shine as she always did, but himself? He would be the one that the family would be irked with!

Juliyn couldn't say he had exactly sought out the company of his family lately. He'd rarely had enough down time to do so, still it meant much to him to have their support. Truthfully, he had wanted his family to be there. His father, mother, and siblings no longer living, Juliyn's uncles and cousins had become his only family. There just hadn't been time.

Shooting a bright, and hopefully confident smile at Penelope, Juliyn brushed his lips against her's and offered his arm. Speaking without a fraction of his nerves showing through, at least he thought that to be the case, he tilted his head in the direction of the entrance.
"Shall we then, my lady?"

As they rounded the corner, Juliyn saw Drest ride up and breathed a shallow sigh of relief. Drest knew Penelope, surely Drest would approve! Besides, Drest didn't like big weddings anyways. Juliyn had done him a favour!
Armed to the nines, and approaching a nervous looking man, Drest appeared all business, and Juliyn couldn't help the slow smile that spread across his lips. "That Drest is quite the charmer, always so welcoming." Juliyn thought.

Feeling much better, he approached from the side as Gina opened the door and ushered the men inside.

He couldn't help it, he had to stall for a moment and so he shuffled, straightened his clothes, smiled at Penelope, squeezed her hand, anything to keep from entering the castle. He imagined what his mother would say should he bring home a lady already wed without a word of invite to her. "Juliyn Mortimer, you didn't! What will your father say!" Oh, and his father would be livid. The wedding would have been an extravagant affair, meant to show off the wealth and standing that Charles Mortimer had acquired. Dignitaries from every corner of the isle would have been invited, regardless of if they would have stooped to attend. Charles had known no fear in his ruthless attempt to garner favour at every opportunity.

Nothing, could be worse then coming home to him.

Heartened that things weren't THAT bad, and that it didn't matter because he loved Penelope regardless, Juliyn patted her arm and climbed the steps to the door.

"fraction of thought, then the plunge," Juliyn spoke to himself with chagrin as he opened the door quickly and saw Drest, Gina, and the unknown man in the hallway.

Heads turned at the sound of the opening door, and Juliyn greeted each in turn, letting go of Penelope only to lightly kiss Gina's hand and shallowly bow to the two gentlemen.
"Lady Gina," Juliyn smiled, "Uncle." A nod, "It's so good to see you both." He rested his hand on Penelope's back, and dipped his head to the remaining man, "Hello, sir."
He hesitated for a moment, "Did my letter reach you?"
Drestakil
He quickly bowed over Gina's hand, nodded at the retainer, Richard Bocock. 'Certainly an odd name, although Drestakil isn't all that common, come to think of it,' thought Drest.

He had been watching to see if Juliyn and Penelope would follow, but they held back. 'Probably building up their courage...I'm sure Gina will have a word or two to say about the suddenness of their wedding.'

The two entered after Drest and Richard had entered the hallway. He turned, Juliyn greeted them, and asked about a letter. "Letter?" said Drest, "what letter? You're writing to everyone else and not your favorite Uncle? I am afraid I'm going to have to have Penelope have a word with you, privately, of course, about protocol. Being the Duchess of Sussex, I am sure she is aware of the forms." He turned to Penelope, bowed over her hand and said, "I am so glad to see you again, dear Lady. I wish I could have been present at the ceremony, but we both know how these things go." He turned to Ladygina, "I don't know if you've met Lady Penelope, Duchess of Sussex and charmer extraordinaire. Lady Penelope, may I introduce you to Lady Gina Mortimer-Sutton."

--Richard_bagwell_bocock
As they all came into the hall he saw the over the shoulder gaze by Drest and caught what was in his sights. More people. It would seem he had been instructed to come on an important day. It did strike him as very kind for Bart to have wanted him here as well, if that were his inclination. he had suggested this would be on business alone, but where there were so many people there would be food. Usually.

Just at that moment, the others, a man and a woman, both with pink cheeks, entered the hall. That's when Richard suddenly realized he had forgotten to take off his hat. How very barbaric. Under his breath he cursed his behavior. Lady Sutton was too fair and friendly to have said anything, but he was angry still at himself for slipping and neglecting his respectable nature.

SWOOP.. he snatched it down and clutched the rim of it near his belt line, watching them all bow and greet one another. He stepped as far out of the way as the walls allowed, nodding at the fellow who said hello.

Seconds ticked and the well armed uncle played a bit at teasing over letters and someone said 'marriage' so these two were likely pink in the cheeks because they are the bride and groom.

That explains everything, he thought. Everyone has come to celebrate the wedding.

More curses though, as he hears that the Lady Pink Cheeks, also known fondly by Uncle Dressed-to-kill as Penelope, is none other than the Duchess of Sussex. Lord Jah be praised that he was smart enough to remember his hat before he found that out. It would have been most embarrassing!

He wanders away from them for a moment and backs into a room. He tries to hurry and nab his handkerchief out of his back pocket and wipe the sweat from his brow before they notice.

Oh yes, that's nice.. first his brow, then his forehead, then over his mouth. The weather was not too extreme but he was never good with people he did not know. He was opening his eyes and as he did he turned ever so slightly to admire the room when suddenly he realized there was someone in there with him!

"GOOD GODS!" he yelled before he could compel himself to NOT respond so. With flinching reaction his right hand, hankie still clutched, flew to his chest which felt like it seized and because he was so confused as to if he should be in here at all or if he should stay he tripped over his own feet.

Knowing he was falling, he braced himself, touched the floor only slightly and was back up again before anyone could blink. He had, however, badly smooshed his hat, which he proceeded to fix while stuttering out "I'm... I'm... I'm sorry my lady, to intrude and to say that I yelled out without warning while.. I'm, well what I am trying to say is, what I meant was that I thought no one was here and I do humbly apologize" he finished.

I am an idiot, he thought.

OOC: Sorry about the slip on the sword....edited previous post to correct

IC:

No sooner than they had gotten inside than the door opened and she turned to see Juliyn and .... his new bride ... enter. He greeted them all, and kissed Gina's hand. As he asked if they'd received his letter. She had, and she had to admit to herself, though she would try to keep it to herself as best she could, but with the pregnancy, her moods have been slightly odd. Drest spoke first, and at the mention of the ceremony, she couldn't help but bristle.
She smiled, though, and would at least try to understand the quickness of getting married without your family. Jules had responsibilities to tend to and he wanted to be married before he left. She understood that, really she did, but...to do so without his family just was ..... well, she just didn't understand that part. She lost her parents at a very young age, and Jules had been without his own, so she would think that the feeling of needing your family at your side during all the most important moments in your life would mean the same to him as it did her.
She looked at Penelope. Nodding her head as Drest introduced them, she said,
"Aye, we've met once at the House of Parliament Balistrade. Nice to see you again, Lady Penelope." The meeting had been an odd, awkward one. Lady Gina had been quite upset and vocal about the Speaker at the time twisting her words about in regards to Pliny's disappearance, and Lady Penelope had tried to comfort her. The awkward part was the hug. They did not even know each other and she hugged her to comfort her. And she spoke to Gina somewhat in a manner that she thought Gina was being....irrational and too emotional. At the time, it was quite irritating to Gina that she took such liberties, but 'twas just the pregnancy mood, she surmised.
Suddenly, a loud yell and "Good Gods!" shook her from her thoughts and she rushed into the room where Cordelia was, just in time to see that Richard was stuttering and apologizing. Shaking her head, she said,
"Richard, have you met Lady Cordelia yet?" The humor of the situation just could not be missed, and she stifled a giggle. Not to mention it bought her some time to compose herself and speak with Jules and Penelope of their wedding.
