I smiled and saw his daughter. "Thank you. I would be honored to," she said following her.

He looked at the woman to whom he'd frightened. Seemed she was in a condition as well, with child. He had not noticed at first, but then when she shifted to eagerly to answer Lady Sutton, well he could see the faintest hint of difference.

It was amazing how the fade of spring brought round the birth of babies so quickly. It was like the nip of the cool air caused couples to, well caused them to spend more time trying to stay warm, perhaps. It was inconceivable how two people, with love or without, could make such a thing and then not believe in something greater than just existing.

He'd never held a baby, never even gotten close to one besides seeing them with their mothers or fathers round the town or at the houses he collected taxes from. They were bags of drool and laughter. He was never quite sure how to take them. One minute they would be entertained by the wizz of a fly and then the next thing you knew they'd be shrieking or snotting.

He'd never much thought of ever having one of his own. It was hard to picture, as not even once in his life had he envisioned asking for a lady's hand nor even for so much as a night of company. His aunt would have handled those affairs and as she was more interested in spending his father's money, she sent him away rather than bother with it.

While in Scotland, he had been too frightened to speak to the locals. The men wore short dresses and the ladies were barbaric. Even the beautiful ones seemed to be able to murder animals with their bare hands!

He shuddered to think of his life if he had stayed there. He envisioned a woman knocking him on the head with a club and dragging him to her nearby clan camp. By the time he woke up she would have likely had three children named Angus Argus and Gus, all boys in tiny plaid skirts, throwing around fresh lamb legs as if they were toys.

The only enjoyment he could find in the horrible picture would be of the day he would finally come home and could leave Angus, Argus, Gus and his wife in the care of his aunt whilst he ran away giggling to the tavern two towns away. Would serve her right for not taking the time to find him a proper wife..

He should feel ashamed, knowing now that in her greed and fever she forgot to protect herself from the plagues that overtook their county, Jah rest her soul. This bit of news became privy when he'd gone to collect monies to repay Bart for his kindness. Their coffers were clean, the house burned, and the lands ruined. He'd had only the clothes on his back, had it not been for the position he now held.

At the sound of Bart's voice he came back from his thoughts, though the talk of food had stirred his belly to growl.

He nodded to the man and feigned a weak smile "Yes, to their dismay I have met them" he hinted, but he'd never tell him the truth. He'd have to hope no one else did either.

"I trust your trip went well" he commented. He noticed the Uncle had gone quiet and thought maybe he could suggest something the men in attendance would appreciate.

"Maybe we could step into the parlor and have a drink, let these charming ladies have their say of things until we've all been called to eat" he suggested.

Drestakil
'Let's see,' Drest said to himself, 'we have Cordelia, Penelope, Gina, Kenna, little Mary, Bart, and Juliyn...several servants running around. There was the young lady trailing after Kenna. She looked familiar, somehow.' This was rapidly becoming quite the family gathering.

Richard mentioned moving into the parlor, "Great idea," said Drest, "but maybe we can move ourselves into the library. There are fewer people and we can talk man-talk...horses, jousting, swords, armor, all that fun stuff. A team of servants can bring us a wagon load of food and," here he raised his voice, "you lovely ladies can talk about whatever it is you lovely ladies talk about when men aren't around."

Penelope followed Drestakil to the study, her hand moving to the crook of Juliyn's arm as he walked alongside. Penelope's cheeks blushed pink when Richard commented on celebrating their marriage. While many believed Penelope to glory in the limelight, she really didn't. That she liked to have fun in a tavern couldn't be denied, but to draw attention to herself was not something she normally liked. The very private wedding between herself and Juliyn should have been a testament to that fact.

Listening to those who indicated they were hungry, Penelope stayed silent. Never having been around such a large family before, she wasn't sure how to fit in and since she didn't really know any of them, she just tried her best to blend in.

Yet, when it was suggested the men go elsewhere, her grip on Juliyn's arm tightened. Truth be told, she was afraid of Lady Gina and Juliyn, Cordelia and Drest were the only people she really knew. Soft brown eyes rested on Juliyn's facial profile and hoped he heard the silent plea that asked him to keep her with him.

Cordelia
Cordelia chuckles. "Drestakil, surely you aren't willing removing yourself from the company of the finest ladies England has to offer? Once again, fortune smiles upon me for marrying the smart brother!" She smiles and winks at him in jest.

She turns slightly and out of the corner of her eye see two familliar faces. "Kenna! Elizabeth!"

Kenna smiled, eager to receive the warm welcome from the woman she admired for stealing her father's heart as well as becoming Kenna's step mother. She was only sad to see that Fiona had not come and her father was not next to his lady in the room.

"Cordelia, I have missed you" she went to the woman, walking past the others, to be the first to give her a very informal greeting. With one arm, she hugged the woman as tight as she could and then turned to do the same to Gina, kissing her on the cheek ".. cousin, so good to see you" she whispered.

She noticed Mary was waking up. poor thing would be so surprised in a minute to see all of these faces.
"Juliyn, thank you for the letter" she tells him "..it is good to see you both. I do hope you will be staying at least a few days. I should very much like that, if you have time to spare" she smiles and nods towards Richard who seemed to be waiting impatiently.

"I have no quarrel with the men leaving to let us ladies get reacquainted. However, I think we should eat in the dining hall and throw the doors open for fresh air. That way we can all announce our current news and things" she suggested.

"For those of you who have not met Miss Elizabeth Smith, this is she, and I have not given her the time to say why she has blessed us with her presence, so.." Kenna paused " please come make yourself comfortable and explain your visit, kind-heart" Kenna took a seat next to Cordelia, and turned Mary around in her lap, smoothing her damp hair away from her face. It was almost golden now, the sun had bleached it so.

"And I ye." She replies, hugging Kenna. Looking around to what has turned into the unexpected family reunion, she wondered if she should send Viceroy a message to come and bring Fiona. She wanted him there when she told Kenna of thier news. She takes a seat and smiles as Kenna sits next to her. While waiting for Elizabeth to speak, Cordelia looks at Gina. "Do ye have any parchment so that I may send Geo a message? I had not originally planned to stay long, but now this is turning into a regular party."

I curtsy for the guests. "I come from months of traveling all over Scotland and England. My sister had always said this was a safe place to come and rest with the family of my Lord," I stated glad to see Cordelia, but noticed something was different about her.

Ladygina
As Kenna walked in with baby Mary, Gina felt a relief that she did not know she was searching for. She had been worried about her cousin out traveling the roads with all the trouble that had been happening. That was part of the relief....that she was safe and sound. But the other....Gina thought with suddenness that she was scared of being with child. She did not know what to expect, what to do, how to prepare. Her mother had died when she was only a mere babe herself...five years old. And she and her sister, Cikaya, had been left in the hands of a Guardian, who turned out to be their male cousin, Loren. So of course, he taught them nothing. Then her sister ran away, and shortly after that, so did Gina. So there had been no female influence in her life to guide her from the time she was five years old, until she made her way to Plymouth. But by then, she was basically an adult and she supposed everyone thought she knew all she was supposed to know.
So, seeing Kenna walk in, she knew she would be fine. Kenna would help her. She would guide her during this time. Of course, the irony of that, is that Gina is a few years older than Kenna!
Whispering back she says,
"Kenna, 'tis wonderful to see you as well." Then as Kenna spoke to everyone, Cordelia asked her if she had parchment. "Aye, there be some parchment and quill and ink in the desk over in the corner. Please, help yourself. And tell Geo, get his bum here quickly! We don't want him to miss anymore of this party!"
Listening to Elizabeth, Gina smiles, but it's wistful. She resembles her sister Angela so, and Gina missed Angela...she could not think of that right now.
Looking around the room, she realized just how much this family had been through in the last year or so. 'Twas amazing they, and this castle, were all still standing.......

She chuckles and says, "Thank ye. I most certinaly will." She goes to the desk and quickly she pens out a letter and seals it, pressing the design of her wedding band into the wax. She hands it to the messenger who had popped up at the mention of sending a letter, then goes back to her seat. She smiles at Elizabeth and then looks at Mary. The girl had grown since she had last seen her!

(OOC: The letter is going into the letter thread.)

Drestakil
It was definitely getting crowded in the main room. While he could tolerate several people, he was not comfortable in a large group. Drestakil stood, waited for a quiet moment and said, "I hate to be rude and insensitive, but there actually IS something I need to check in the library. I won't be long, but I've been waiting for a chance to clarify something for quite some time and I'm not passing it up. Ladies, it was a pleasure seeing all of you again. I'll see you in the dining hall later. Gentlemen, good luck and have fun." Drest glanced over to Gina, "If you could have a servant send in some ale to the library, I would greatly appreciate it." He turned to Elizabeth Smith, "I am glad you are here. Your sister was one of the most important people in this family and her loss has affected us in many ways. She was a person of integrity and greatly spiritual. You have my sympathy," and he bowed over her hand, turned and walked through the doorway to the library.

Watching her cousin make his way to the Library, her curiosity got the better of her and she couldn't help but wonder what it was he was going to look for.
She saw Sloan walk by the doorway and she called out to him, asking him to be sure to take a nice tankard of ale into Drest. She almost told him to announce that it was tea, but she thought it might be a bit early for Sloan to get grumbled at by the "bear" of the family.
Turning back to the crowd of family she just listened to the various conversations, waiting to see if anyone was going to make their way to the dining hall.

Kennagillian
Since Jules seemed unusually quiet, Kenna thought better than to interrupt the meaningful stares going on between he and his new wife. She seemed to be a very pretty girl, though more often than not, people could ruin such a perception quite quickly after hearing them speak. It still never failed to surprise her, given that she was always able to lend people the benefit of the doubt. She believed, with hope and faith, that this lady must be of great personality and station if she was holding such a title in Sussex as well as the keys to her cousins heart. Even though she seemed to have fear in her eyes there was still time yet to show her that the Mortimer Family hath never bitten a soul and generally cared for people enough not to serve them for dinner.

That thought made her smile, as she was not all to sure of this fact concerning her uncle. My, he was the feisty one to be true. Still, Penelope need not be frightened of him either, he may be a brute when it comes to defense and protection, but he was still a gentleman to his core.

While Cordelia excused herself to write a letter Kenna nodded to Bart that is was ok with her for him to go on and keep her uncle company. She smiled warmly at Richard who bowed slightly to her as he followed her husband from the room. She heard Elizabeth go on to answer their questioning advances and nodded quickly.

"Yes of course, it goes without saying you are welcome here, always. You heard my uncle. Your sister was very much loved and appreciated in this household. So please, do settle in and stay on as long as you need to. I am sure you are hungry as well" she let Mary's blanket drop to the floor and set her on the seat next to her.

Mary hunkered in next to her mother, watching timidly as the men left the room. She always watched Drest, usually quite closely. She seemed to have an affinity for the man, as if she realized that in all the worlds delicate and tiny things, she was the only thing he'd ever held without crushing.

When Cordelia returned from her business, She sat beside them again and instantly, Mary turned her head to the side and sighed out loud, reaching for her dolly in Kenna's lap. Her eyes blinked but stared directly at Cordelia's red hair as if she were familiar with it. Dolly in her left hand, Mary began to pat Cordelia's leg softly, gurgling something unintelligible that resembled a quiet hello. She wiggled her feet back and forth and continued on like that for a few minutes and Kenna laughed.

"She's doing that a lot lately, talking to things or people in her own way" she told them " I could have swore that yesterday when we started out on our way here that she was telling the horses quite a bit in a not so nice way. She yelled at them a few times, almost makes me wonder if she knew where she was going" she smiled and ruffled her daughters golden hair affectionately.

When Gina mentioned her father, she nodded yes to having him join them. She would love to see him.

She saw Gina's quiet reflection and said "Now that the men are gone, should I go mention to the kitchen that we are waiting on food, or have you already seen to that, cousin?" she asked.

Watching Mary with her Dolly, Gina smiles and unconsciously places her hand upon her belly. She was so excited to become a mother. But, she was nervous as well. She wondered if she would be as good a Mother as her own Mother, or as Kenna for that matter....
Hearing Kenna's question about the food, and with a giggle, she said,
"Honestly Cousin, I don't think I ever followed through on it. Would you mind?"

And the time had come to offer up the little girl as a sacrificial lamb to the fiery pits of family affection. Kenna laughed at Gina as well as at herself for thinking of such silly things.

"I don't mind one bit, as long as one of you wonderful women wouldn't mind keeping an eye on Mary for me until I return. Should only be a minute" she assured them.

Would they mind, of course not. Would they dote on her and kiss her cheeks and tickle her? Why yes! Would Mary like it, would she be ok? Ha, she'd be like a pig in a mud pit. No doubt about that.
