Drestakil
A good servant knew when to listen and when to speak. Richard slowly walked over and sat down in one of the large leather chairs. He kept quiet, listening. Drestakil was beginning to like the man, unlike the late Michelangelo. He was someone Drest could never fully trust. Sad, in a way, since the man seemed to have a firmness of character that would have kept him loyal, but also seemed to have another agenda in the background. Well, that was in the past. This was now. Time to deal with 'now'.

"I will be making a short trip to Sussex soon, then back to Salisbury. It seems I am in demand as an escort for trade groups," Drest said. He poured himself another ale, then drank deeply. He was fortifying himself for the "Tea Brigade" that always handled the meals here. You would think the only thing people drank at meals was tea and wine.

Fiona looks at the pretty lady with dark hair(Gina). "Helwo!" She smiles and waves from her position in Mama's arms.

She hears a new voice. She recognizes this lady. Papa had a picture of her. "Helwo Kenna!" She grins again.
Cordelia
Cordelia chuckles. Fiona certinaly was getting over her shyness and becoming quite the social butterfly.

Kenna comes back and announces the food is ready, and Gina invites them into the dining room. Taking Viceroy's hand, she waits for everyone to start moving in the right direction so she could follow and pretend she knew where she was going.

She realized that today was the first time she had ever heard Fiona speak so clearly. She was such a sweet little girl.

"Sounds good, then?" Kenna nodded to Gina, impressed with how well her cousin seemed to be handling her new "condition" and then smiled at Penelope and Elizabeth "If you all would like to follow my father and Gina into the dining hall I will go gather then men from the study and usher them the same direction" she said encouraging Penelope to stay on with her new acquaintances while she offered to alert the men about the meal being ready.

She carted Mary down the hall again, leaving them all to go on ahead, swooping and dipping her daughter a little on the way just to make her laugh.

She felt quite happy, but she could not help but think of Sinda. She missed her and wished she would come home again. Wished she could see everyone today and that they could sneak away and talk like they used to about things. She hoped that where ever she was that she knew she was loved, that Kenna thought of her often..

Mary was digging at her mouth, and drooling. Kenna stopped for a second and felt in her mouth.

"Well, little lady O'Neill, I do believe your gums have teeth" she said and kissed the sweet muffin on her nose. Mary pushed her away and gave her a cross look.

"Alright, No love for now, but you have to come off it sass or Momma will steal some kisses" she threatened sweetly just as she knocked quickly and poked her head in to check on the men.

"Hello boys" she greeted them "Bring yourselves to the dining hall, it is time to eat" she announced.

Juliyn, Richard, Bart, and Drest had on their serious faces, so she hoped she had not interrupted them.

"Oh and Uncle Drest, your brother, has also joined us. I believe he will meet us at the table" she added, before she popped her head back out of the room and waited in the hall.

With food on her mind, Gina made her way down to the Dining Hall, hoping everyone was following. When she got inside, the spread on the table was a sight to see. Rose had outdone herself this time. There were meats, and veggies, and fruits, and desserts, and all sorts of jams and breads. It was definitely a feast!
Her mouth watering, she waited for the rest of the family to file into the room before she sat down to enjoy herself.

It was time...Kenna's face appeared around the edge of the library door announcing that it was time to eat. Drestakil took a deep breath, stood and said, "Well, Gentlemen, I guess we had better join the rest of the family. Richard, I'm sure Rose has a spread set up in the kitchen for all the servants." Drest lowered his voice, "Just between you and me, I think Rose has developed a liking for you."

Richard's face had brightened immensely at the announcement of food. He had moved to stand and was waiting to let the other men lead when Drest approached him and suddenly the look on his face changed.

Besides the fact that Drest was rather different, more of a fighter than Richard was used to, he was hard to take. There were times when he could quite possibly be joking, but Richard was too afraid to take the chance to laugh.

Now, what he said caused one or two things to happen.

First, Richard's look had turned into the frozen-in-mid-stride-did-anyone-else-hear-that?? look clearly forming.

As the message sunk in the confusion took over and his expression took on more of a oh-my-jah-what-does-it-all-mean-?? look creased in his right eye brow.

Now, the situation was quite serious.

See, Richard knew no Rose and as far as he was concerned she did not know him. Yet, if the old uncle was correct in his estimation, this was a completely different occasion than he had dreamed up.

He was only here to collect money, that was what the letter said. But then, it was odd for him to have been invited to the castle on a day that the entire family was here.

He was stricken with some strange form of paranoia, grasping at the events leading up to this moment and suddenly turned to cast suspicious eyes at his dear friend and employer, Bart.

Could they be plotting to arrange things? Would they be so bold?

He who was hungry now seemed more hesitant to eat, assuming that this meal entailed much more than serving up it's main dish...

He waited as planned, to follow them, prepared to pass out if it was necessary.

Bart had been observing Richard to see how he would behave amongst his family. Kenna had arrived to invite the men for dinner. As e walked over to her and held out his arm so she could hook hers into his, Bart overheard Drest pulling a prank with Richard. He turned his head to face him “What is the problem Richard? You don't look so well...” Bart asked while trying to cover up his big grin, knowing that Richard would be more confused then ever.

“Let's go, dinner is waiting..” Bart said as he turned back to the dining room. The business he had to take care of with Richard could wait till after dinner, until that time, they could pull another joke or two on Richard...

When dinner was announced, Penelope's heart leaped with joy. Finally she could be reunited with her husband, she thought, the light returning to her eyes. Yet, as Kenna recommended that they all follow Lady Gina to the dining room while she went to inform the men, Penelope stayed behind and watched as Kenna walked down a hallway. Giving her enough time to get ahead, Penelope followed, a smile creasing her lips as she witnessed mother and daughter interact.

Turning the corner, Penelope saw him. Her heart filled with indescribable joy as she saw his face. How lucky she was, she thought, as she gave Kenna a guilty wink and walked towards Juliyn. Sliding her arms around his waist, she kissed his cheek and smiled joyfully at him. "I swear time stood still while you were away, Juliyn Mortimer!" Releasing her arms from around his waist, she waited for him to offer her his arm. "Are you famished yet? I know I am..." Penelope finished with a mischievous smile.

Penelope's eyes canvassed the room and fell upon the map. Looking at Dres, she inquired, "Are you planning a trip?"

"Young Lady, just because there's a map in the room doesn't mean I'm planning a trip. As a matter of fact, your husband and I were looking at the map while I regaled him with tales of long ago and far away. Now that I think back, there WAS talk of me returning to the East to visit friends." Drest turned to Juliyn, "How would you like to visit a city in the air?"

Kenna takes Bart's arm and momentarily let her eyes avert to Richard, who seemed to be talking himself back into his skin.

She whispered "Is he alright?" she thought he even looked a bit paler than before. Bart nodded to Drest and winked and then Kenna understood. Her Uncle must have been picking on Richard. Poor fellow, she thought and smiled.

She noticed Penelope had followed and she was second guessing whether she should have asked her to come with her a moment ago as that might have been more friendly of her than to have left her behind. She made a mental note to think of something enjoyable for the four of them to do together later, before they had to leave.

Once in the dining hall, Kenna sat near the middle of the table and could not wait to take the first bite.

Every morsel of food was steaming hot and smelled so good.

Drestakil followed the others into the Dining Hall...'room' just didn't do it justice, in his opinion. The table certainly was groaning under the weight. It all smelled soooo good, he was reminded that it had been almost a day since he had last eaten anything.

He glanced over and saw one of the kitchen servants standing nervously at the door. Drest got her attention, crooked his finger and motioned her over to him. He stepped back into the hall as she came up, "Here is what I want you to do...do you see Richard? He's Lord O'Neill's man...he will be going into the kitchen to eat. I want you to make sure he has first choice of everything...food, wine, bread, everything. If he asks why...tell him you have instructions and tell him nothing else. Understand?" and he smiled, his eyes twinkling. The young girl's eyes twinkled on their own, "Yes, Milord, I will do as you have said."

As everyone else started filtering into the room, Kenna took a seat near the middle of the table, and Gina sat across from her, leaving the 2 end chairs for Drest and Geo.
She hoped everyone got settled in soon, because she did not want to embarrass herself, but she was seconds away from just diving into the plates head first!
She wished someone had told her being with child would make you so hungry that everything started resembling food!

Richard nodded to the others as they passed him by and entered the dining hall. He stopped off at the wash basin at the end of the hall and wet his handkerchief in the cool water. He first wiped his face and then his hands with it. Though nothing seemed to be able to make it wipe the worry from his face.

A woman, to whom he had no acquaintance, would be just in the next room. A woman, Drest says, who fancies him. He would not know her from the rest, and there would be no saying exactly how many female servants there were for this family.

He was tucking it away and noticed a spot on his pants. He wasn't sure what it was but it looked like dirt from the road. He dabbed the cloth again and was busy scrubbing it when he knocked the basin a bit and saw it slipping. No no, it wasn't, it was falling, not slipping.

EGADS! he thought, loudly.

He clutched the cloth and moved as quickly as he could to keep it from hitting the floor. There was two finger lengths of water but he wasn't as worried about that as he was about breaking the dish. With his luck he would probably find out afterward that it had been in the family for centuries and he'd forever be blamed as the bumbling fool who'd shattered it.

With ease and his middle, he managed to catch it one handed. Using his body, he helped it back on it's flat spot, breathing a sigh of relief once he'd steadied the table.

"Ah, that was close" he whispered. Though in his head he was cursing his misfortune and clumsy hands. It was then that he heard a drip drip drip sound and noticed his feet felt cooler, as well as...

"OH glory to britches!" he blurted out in disgust. The drip noise was the water that was now hitting his boots, but the more concerning nature of the matter was in where the water dripped from.

From behind, no one would have been the wiser, but from the front he looked as stunningly divine as a four month drunk who'd wet himself just a moment ago.

He infectiously, and with quick fever, commenced to trying to dry it up with his.... wet hankie.

"All the good that will do" he said sarcastically. Giving up, he resigned himself to meeting his admirer and his meal with everything washed, including his jewels.

Well, at least I didn't break it, he thought, trying to smile as he joined the servants and working men in the castle kitchens dining hall, and I'm just the bumbling fool who wet himself. Yes, that is much better, he assured himself.

Juliyn
Juliyn looked at the map as he pondered Bart’s words. Yes, England had an absent king who seemed to care little for his people. It was ever more evident now that the Royal’s own country was under attack and he was still nowhere to be seen. It was up to the people, leaders , nobles, commoners alike to fix the problems left in King John’s absence. Juliyn looked up from the map as he heard Kenna’s voice, but his eyes followed past her to the figure that followed a few steps behind. He wondered at that, why Penelope hadn’t accompanied Kenna. He hoped the introductions had gone well, and that his family hadn’t been too intimidating, and even more so, that they liked Penelope, but he would have plenty of time to see how Penelope had fared later.

Smiling as she approached, Juliyn returned her kiss in kind and quickly offered his arm, nodding at the mention of food, hunger and time standing still, Juliyn couldn’t help but quickly brush his lips against hers.

A wry smile crossed Juliyn’s lips as Drest mentioned travelling, and then proceeded to play a rather humorous joke on the nervous servant. The poor man looked positively pale, and certainly beside himself. Ah well, it would help him in the long run.

Soon, they had arrived at the dining room, and at the sight of food, Juliyn quickened his pace and smiled down at Penelope. Pulling a chair out for his wife, and waiting for her to be seated, he scanned the room quickly, his dark eyes slitting over each as they took their places. His eyes stopped at Vice and a wide smile crossed his face.
“Uncle! I hadn’t expected to see you, but it is a pleasant surprise. Every time I stop into Arundel I have asked of you, but it seems you haven’t taken that retirement of yours too seriously. Though, I’ve learned to not expect anything less from you, of course. It is good to see you.”

Sliding into his own seat, Juliyn couldn’t help but think of the days ahead. Soon, he would be off to war, he would leave his wife, his home, his friends, but it was comforting to know of the family he had. At least, he could always count on the prayers and support of his kin. It wasn’t often they gathered like this, even with a few still missing, it was a rare occurrence and Juliyn wanted to truly enjoy it.

He reached beneath the table and discreetly reached for Penelope’s hand, smiling from the corner of his mouth at her, and hoping she wasn’t entirely overwhelmed by the evening.
