= [ORP] Kel's Bells Tavern in Egremont

Hikenai
Hikenai saw the messenger give Kelster the bottle of what she thought was probably Scottish whisky, and her stomach suddenly lurched a bit. She strangely did not feel like drinking hard liquor anymore, only ale. She knew her love would savor Tod's treat, though.
I hope you enjoy the bottle, my employer said that as for the timely warning to get out of town.
Hik remembered what a good friend Tod had been to them in Dumfries. He did not give Kel away, although he had recognized him immediately, he had not turned him in. Tod had even gone so far as to help Kelster fix the door in her tavern, the one that had become warped and hung back, dragging and difficult to close. The odd job had been Kel's cover. He was a handy man, he was a laborer, and no one in Scotland had been the wiser.
Kelster wrote:
......Well thank you my good man, I will certainly see she gets the letter. Take care on you're journey home. Jah speed to you.
After the messenger left, Kel turned to his wife and spoke in a whisper to her. I think this is some sort of love letter darling. Although it does seem a little strange. Love the Bw way I suppose.

Hikenai kissed Kel swiftly on the cheek. You have to post it on her door, as Tod asked.....the Bw way...... And Hikenai looked at Kel, remembering their own courtship, and held her hand against his cheek. Love was still such a mystery, she thought.
I will get the hammer and nails for you, my love.

Hikenai
After Kelster left for Bw's house with the missive from Tod, Hikenai gathered up her basket, her cloak and bag, and left the tavern for the apothecary shop. Blythe had been keeping the shop for her since before her return from Dumfries, and now that Hikenai was home and Kel had left the army, she and her husband had tried to spend as much time together as possible, stealing away to their room to draw the blinds at mid-day, recline upon their bed and relax, talk and laugh, and store up those moments, so precious to newlyweds. The summer of battle and bloodshed makes these moments all the more precious, Hikenai whispered to herself, and she hurried to complete her errands. I want to be home when Kelster returns, she told herself. I don't want to miss one minute.
She only needed to stop by the market for fresh fruit, after she picked up her Nux Vomica from Blythe. Hikenai thought anxiously of the amazing remedy for nausea, pressing her fingers against her lips!
Will my morning sickness never end?

Kelster
Walking a little fast this morning after hearing the news that his brother, Osbert had been awarded the title the Baron of Barrow-in-Furness by the King, Kelster approached his tavern to open it up for the a day of celebration. Unlocking the door and entering the tavern, Kel smiled to himself, what a great day this was, his brother had finally got what he had deserved for so long after all his work for Cumberland. Knowing his brother would be more thrilled by the fact that the mine had finally been opened in Egremont than the title, Kel knew this was one of the main reasons his brother should be honoured today.

As he went behind the Bar to check on the barrels of ale ready for the celebration, Kel hoped his wife would turn up soon to start her preparing the food for all the customers he expected, after all, his brother was a well liked man. Kelster was starting to worry a little about his wife Hikenai still working so hard in the tavern with there baby on the way in a few short months time, but she so liked seeing the customers everyday who always said that her smile would turn the dullest of days in to a sunny one. He so loved his wife, he did not want her working so hard right now but he knew it was what she loved to do.

Having all the barrels in place Kel poured himself a large ale and said out loud as there was no one here to hear him yet
. To Os, the greatest brother a man could ever have.

--Blythe
Blythe entered the tavern just as she heard Kel say, To Os, the greatest brother a man could ever have. She took off her cloak, smiled at Kel, slipped behind the bar, and placed the apron around her waist. She wanted to ask what the toast was about, but felt it would be rude. She was not on such a level of intimacy with Lord Wallace, although she loved the Wallace family very much. The lines between friendship and employment had often blurred between her and Hikenai, but Lord Wallace sometimes intimidated her, probably without meaning to, but intimidated her nonetheless.

He seemed to be in a good mood, and Blythe was happy for that. She had noticed that the departure of so many NNGO and thieves from the roads of Cumberland had lent itself to a general atmosphere of gaiety throughout the county. The sense of oppression they had all lived under for so long had lifted, at last.
Even the children, still taking shelter in Wallace Castle, now played with more freedom, more laughter, more lightheartedness than before. She loved helping Cuthbert take care of them, seeing to their needs, making sure they tended to their lessons and accomplished their little chores and tasks.

Lord Wallace, may I refill your tankard?
Blythe smiled at him, and hoped with all her heart that he had not noticed she had fallen in love with Cuthbert. Every time she was around Cuthbert's family, Blythe felt it was written all over her face!
Hikenai
Hikenai was happy to have found her husband already at the tavern, and as she settled Drambuie in the stable behind the building, she stroked Miss Fortune who was already in her stall there, giving her a carrot and a quick hug. Hurrying to the tavern's kitchen door, she entered quickly, eager to start her noon day special of lark, stuffed inside a hen, stuffed inside a goose, which would be stuffed inside a peacock. This was a tasty delicacy Hik had long wished to attempt. She had all the peacock feathers cleaned and ready with which to decorate the bird once it was removed from the oven.

She quickly hung her bag and riding coat on the hook, and drew on her apron. Then, hearing a familiar voice from the front of the tavern, she smiled and advanced through the doorway.

Lord Wallace, may I refill your tankard?

Hikenai tiptoed in, smiling at Blythe and pressing her index finger to her lips. Shhhhhh...... she grinned.

Coming up behind Kelster, she placed her hands on his eyes from behind, going up on tip toe to reach him. Yet, by doing so, her tight, full stomach pressed against him, and suddenly a tiny leg thumped once, twice, and three times against the back of Kelster's thigh, as Hikenai dissolved into laughter.

So much for trying to surprise you, my love! This little one has announced his presence, Kel.....and mine, too!

Kelster
As he was just standing there, a pair of hands came from behind him and covered Kel's eyes. Jumping slightly at the surprise he was just about to reach for his sword when he felt a bump touch his back. There was a weird feeling that this bump was kicking him, ever so softly. The he heard his wife's voice.

So much for trying to surprise you, my love! This little one has announced his presence, Kel.....and mine, too!

Turning to face his wife, with an awe struck face having never felt a babies kick before, he placed his hand on her stomach to feel yet another kick.

My darling, I love you. That was one of the best kicks in the back I have ever felt. Smiling at his wife, he put his lips against hers and gave her a gentle kiss. Now shouldn't you be taking it easy , you need to rest more my love.

Hikenai
Hikenai was as surprised as Kel by the baby's kick! It was as if the wee mite sensed it's father was there and wanted to make contact!
Quote:

Hikenai felt herself melt into her husband's embrace. He always had such an effect on her! She smiled at his loving concern and nodded.
Don't worry my love, I am here only long enough to prepare the roasted peacock I wanted to try my hand at. Hopefully, it will make a fine main course for you dinner! Hikenai laughed, thinking should it not be palatable, they could always use it for target practice! I will go home soon enough, Kel, and curl up with my manuscripts!
The door to the tavern suddenly blew open with the wind, a man entered and quickly approached them, bearing an expectant look upon his face and holding out a letter.
For Lord and Lady Wallace!

Taking the letter to a nearby table after giving the man recompense for his journey, Hikenai and Kelster peered at the missive and Hik gasped. It was from Zukran Baneshield!

Dear Hikenai,

My name is Zukran "Kran" Banesheild. I am not sure how well you knew me, or if I was a freind or enemy, all I know is I can remember your name. This means you were important some how. This may sound strange, or it may not. I don't know.

This won't make any sence due to the fact I can barley remember anything myself. All I can remember is your name. I was told you lived with a man named Kelster, and after doing some research discovered you owned a tavern in Egremont. I must vist you both to see if you can help me, in whatever way with what has happened to me.

The last things I remember was helping some people out of Scotland, before being slain by a scotsman, but then I woke in a hut, alive and well. A women, wiken, witch what ever you might call here. Told me she had saved my life, removed my memory and changed my apperance through her potions. I remember I wore an eye patch, and had short dark hair, and tended to wear black, this is as much as I can remember about my old apperance. I know I live in Barnstaple, and this mya sound strange but I had a dream about a wedding, and you were at the Alter with a man named Kelster, if this was a dream, vision or memmory I do not know.

I hope you can help me, I am heading home but first I need some idea of what I may expect, who I can trust who i cannot, and what is going on. All I can tell you is. I lost a year in my life-but my life was saved. the women told me another person had removed all previous memeories before she had. She told me who I was, and where I lived, from their I have had to make my own way, and now I need your help.

I hope to vist you at your tavern soon.

Yours truley

Kran Banesheild

Hikenai and Kel stared at each other in amazement after quickly reading the letter.
Kel, how could such a thing have befallen Zukran? He just left Cumberland a few short months ago, and now.....a whole year of his life has become shrouded in a foggy haze? What has happened?

Hikenai
Hikenai sat at the bar and quickly penned this reply, to send back with the messenger who had brought them Zukran's letter....

Sept 1458
Egremont, Cumberland

Dear Kran,
It was amazing to get your letter and hear your news! Yes, yes, my friend, please come to see us at the tavern, and Kelster and I will do all we can to help you regain your memory. Should we fall short in that, we can at least provide you with as much information as we are sure of, and perhaps that might help in some small way. I cannot imagine what circumstances befell you, to cause you to lose your memories, yet, in view of the bloody fighting we experienced in Carlisle, I am not surprised the trauma worked upon your mind. I know it certainly worked upon mine! However, my friend, better times have come to Cumberland since the enemies have nearly all gone, and our struggle to regain Carlisle was successful! Come stay with us Zukran!
Kelster joins me in extending an open invitation to you, to come to Wallace castle and stay, before you leave for Barnstaple. We are very anxious to see you, and though your news of memory loss does distress me, I am very, very grateful your vision has been restored and you no longer need the eye patch!
We shall look forward to seeing you soon! I thank Jah you were able to remember my name, and Kelster'! We shall be watching for you, my friend!
Sincerely, and with genuine concern,
Hikenai Wallace

When she was done, she handed it to the messenger, and as he hurried off she shook her head wordlessly. Kelster stood silently looking on, both of them staring at the messenger's back as he strode away, closing the door firmly behind him. Hikenai looked at Kelster then, with an expression of confusion.
He signed the letter Kran Baneshield, Kel.......Kran.....not Zuk......oh, Kel....what has happened to him?

Dunn was walking into the nearest Tavern after a hard days training. He had short black hair, and tatoo's around his right eye. His eyes themselves were a Bright Blue, and he wore Silver plate armour with A gold Falcon on it. He also wore A Blue Cape and carried A silver sheild with golden falcon crest and a silver longsword. As Dunn was walking in he heard someone at the bar saying "Banesheild."

I did not know people here already know my name?

The man sat down at the bar as most of the tables and chairs were still stacked against the Side of the tavern it was still very early in the Morning, but Dunn needed a drink, he and his bad of "Outcasts" had been out hunting in the weald earlier in the week and were now cashing in their spoils on beer, wine and women.

My Name is Dunn, Dunn Banesheild. I lead a small "Band" of men. We're staying here for a few nights. Can I get a beer? And also how did you know my name?
Hikenai
Hikenai looked up, surprised at the rather intimidating man who had entered the tavern, as she and Kelster had finished reading the letter. She had not thought their voices had carried, but when one overheard one's name mentioned, she supposed one had a right to speak up! So she turned to the man as he said,
Quote:
I did not know people here already know my name?

Hikenai then smiled, already beginning to fill a tankard.

Aye, Baneshield! What a coincidence! I have a friend whose name is Baneshield...... Hoping to steer him away from discussing the matter further, as she was afraid perhaps he could be a foe to Zukran, (for she was thoroughly concerned about Zukran now, having received the letter, which she had hidden on a shelf below the counter) despite their having the name, 'Baneshield', in common. Hikenai placed the chilled tankard before the man.
A band of men, you say? Shall they be here in a while? I shall order the cook to prepare some food right away, if so! Hikenai wanted to ask him where he was from, for she had never seen him in Cumberland, during all her traveling of the county.

Sure. I will collect them once I have finished my BeerYou have a freind called Banesheild, never known anyone with that name apart from mu Uncle Rokinian Banesheild. My parents died when I was young, said my brothers died with 'em. Must just be a coincidence.
Hikenai
Hikenai stood stock still, dumbfounded by the man's words. She remembered in the early spring, the unsettling, quite dangerous mission she and Zukran had undertaken! They had gone to the wilds and dark, swirling mists of the Weald, to liberate his Uncle Rok from a prison! Hikenai's mind clouded, even now, just trying to recall the journey, for she had felt otherworldly, and in such a dream state while there!
Rokinian Baneshield...your uncle??!! Hikenai gasped, and examined this man's face closely. Yes, she could see it, there did seem to be a distinct resemblance.....I.....I have not seen him in months, and only met him once...Rokinian Baneshield...but.... Ever afraid to speak to freely, to yield to her trusting nature, Hikenai hesitated. What if this were some sort of trap for Zukran? But what if this man was a Baneshield? There was the resemblance......And Hikenai prepared to refill the man's tankard.
Please, tell me more about your family, maybe I can help you.....

My Family? Not Much to say really. My Uncle Rokinian Passed away two Months ago, after living in the Scotish Highlands I came down south to mourn his passing, however we were stuck down in England till the War passed. We stayed out of it mostly, I mean we're hunters of well dare I say it I doubt you will belive it. Mythical Beasts. They live in the most remote parts of this land. Everything I have ever slain. Their is it's talon, horn or claw in A book I carry. I doubt you would belive me on this though, most people belive in "Jah's" way of life, however sometimes it can be said that the Pagan teachings.....are not always wrong.

Anyway. My parents died when I was two and lived with my Uncle for the first few years of my life, something changed though I could not remember what at the time, but one night, when I was four, or atleast this was his account of it. He took me North into Scotland and put me in an Orphanage. Never said why, he visited every few months till I was twelve. Then the vists just stopped, and at the age of fourteen I left to continue my own life. Two years later I was part of the army, and then when I turned nineteen I formed this group after my town was burnt to the ground during my tour of the country. They said to me the English did it, but I doubt it, I asked the nearby villages and from their accounts. It was a Dragon.

For the last year or so I built this well, strange group you could say. We never stay in one place to long, I was the "Most" normal till something happened one night. During the war in Carlisle. One night I woke, and well my eyes were a Bright glowing Blue, and this tatoo on my head was also glowing blue. I know my eyes are already blue, but it was like a blue fire burning from my eyes and skin. It did not hurt, but after a few moments I fell down unconsious. Belive what you will of this, I just tell you my tale. By The Way can I have another Beer?
--Blythe
Blythe had returned from the kitchen area and listened, amazed, as the man told the Wallaces about his uncle. She stopped polishing the tankards and stood holding the towel, aghast at the talk of mythical beasts! Last spring when the Lady Hikenai had returned from the Weald with Zukran Baneshield, Blythe knew Hik had not been herself for several days. Now, Hikenai was entranced listening to the strange man....Baneshield, he said his name was....same as Zukran's name. Blythe glanced with worry at Lord Wallace. He, too, continued to listen as the man went on.
Quote:
Belive what you will of this, I just tell you my tale. By The Way can I have another Beer?

Blythe hurried to fill another tankard for the man, placed it on the counter in front of him, and took the empty tankard to the sideboard to wash. She hoped he would tell Lady Hik and Lord Kelster more, for she had heard legends.....and she wondered if he was related to Zukran Baneshield.
Hikenai
Hikenai listened to Dunn Baneshield as he told about his life.

Rokinian Baneshield, dead these last two months!? Hikenai felt her breath catch in her throat as she remembered the man she and Zukran has freed from prison last spring. She wondered if Zukran had any idea his uncle had died. From his letter, Hikenai gathered he had no idea, and if he knew his uncle was dead, Hik doubted his present mental state held any memories for him.

You say your had a brother, who died? And Rokinian Baneshield was your uncle.....

Hikenai didn't want to give the man false hope.....but it was evident, if he was the nephew of Rokinian, he was either cousin or brother to Zukran!
She motioned for Blythe to fill another round for Dunn, Kelster and herself. Kel had continued to listen quietly, as Dunn spoke, and Hikenai knew her husband was considering the possibilities. Kelster did not appear to be suspicious of Dunn, just solemnly weighing the information they had just received.

While you are in town, Dunn, I hope you will stay in close touch with us. We are expecting a visitor soon......Hikenai's voice trailed off for a second and she shot Kelster a questioning look, for she did not want to blurt out the information. Maybe our visitor might shed more light on your family.....
