= [ORP] Kel's Bells Tavern in Egremont

--Blythe
Quote:
No more travelling or being alone. We're going to love you a whole lot.

When Neonea uttered those words, a lump formed in Blythe's throat. She looked at John helplessly, thinking ...no more travelling or being along, the poor wee one! She was relieved that John went on, saying,
Aye, it's decided then! It was as if Neonea took it for granted that the lives of six year old children involved travelling and being alone sometimes, but she showed no sign of self pity or sadness. Instead, the excitement, and her tenderness for the little llama were clearly evident.
As John spoke though, while watching Neonea with the llama, Blythe knew he had marked the child's words, and what they inferred. No six year old should have had to have lived the life she had endured before the night she entered Kel's Bells Tavern in Egremont!
I have had a good time, ladies. Thank you for joining me for our meal, and showing me the llama....... Maybe we could do this again sometime soon?
John looked at Blythe with a smile as he spoke, and she was happy to nod her head 'yes'!
Now, it's off to the sleigh for us, and back to Wallace Castle, Neonea! We can get little Winston settled in the barn and then go to the kitchen for Alice's pastry and milk! I think there may be another surprise waiting for you as well!
Blythe winked at John then, another big smile lighting up her face.
Neonea
I smiled to John and Blythe, and played with the Llama in my own little world for the time being.
Blythe finally spoke after a little bit and mentioned home, I stood up tall and grinned, nodding my head, the excitement of going back home evident on my glowing face.

"Oh yes please! I can't wait!" I looked at the llama again, "You're really going to love it there, just like me!"

Blythe and Neonea were snug in the sleigh. As it glided silently and smoothly, away from Kel's Bells Tavern, and into the countryside the surrounded Egremont, Blythe thought of the child's words to the llama, about Wallace Castle,
Quote:
"You're really going to love it there, just like me!"

Aye, Neonea, Wallace Castle is a good home. 'Tis the only home I have known for over a year now! I came from Barnstaple, to serve your mother as her ladies maid, but I was from Cumbria originally. This is where I grew up.

Blythe settled back in the blankets and pulled Neonea close. The child held the llama firmly in her lap, and Winston's big brown eyes looked drowsy. He appeared to be lulled into a sleepy state by the warmth of the child's arms, and the saddle blanket wrapped about him. Blythe giggled then and said,

One day, I hope to have a home of my own, and a little girl just like you, Neonea!

In the distance, they could see the gate house of the castle, and they swiftly sped for it, across the pristine snow. True, Blythe thought, my own home would not be a grand palace, but it would be home, and I would have a good man, and a family to call my own.

The woman had left Wallace Forge and made straight to Kel's Bells tavern. She needed a drink! The sight of the strange animal outside the blacksmith's shop shook her to her core. It's neck was far, far too long to be a sheep. It was not a horse, it was not like anything she had ever seen in England, nor in Scotland. I knows a familiar when I sees one! She thought worriedly to herself, remembering how the thing looked when the young man, Corster, left the animal outside the Forge door.

Aaaaauch! W'at was that? W'at could it have been? She muttered to herself. Then, as the passing sledge sent a fine spray of snow against the side of the tavern, she looked up in time to see a little girl sitting on the seat of the sleigh, holding upon her lap, a much smaller version of the same wierd animal!

Aaaauch! The fiend! It's reproducin'!
She shouted, and made for the tavern door, to open it quickly, holding her up hand to the sleigh as it passed by, clenched in the forefinger over thumb sign to ward off evil.

Hikenai
Hikenai had been out and about in the county. The snow had moved on, but the pristine blanketing still shrouded the landscape. The sun's brilliant reflection upon it caused her eyes to water and sting, and she laughed as she dashed the back of her hand to her cheeks. As she swept back into Egremont, gliding up before the tavern in the horse drawn sledge, just knowing Neonea, Sara and Matthew were snug and warm at home gave her a feeling of comfort. She had only today left the babies for the first time since their birth! She thought, despite the cold, it owuld be good to attend to errands, and stop to visit friends along her route. It had been since before the babe's births that she had been out on her own!

I hope they will meet me here!
She muttered to herself, as she entered the warmth of the tavern and began to remove her thick gloves and cloak. Just a bit earlier, she had met some of her comrades in the recruiting office of the Cumberland Mountaineers, and they'd spoken of meeting here later for a tankard of ale.
Mmmm, a few of those tiny meat pies of Maxine's and a tankard of Kel's finest sounds just right! Hikenai said happily to the bartender, as she took her seat.

Ah, Father Sloth! Hikenai called out to the priest. She was surprised and happy to him already seated at a table, as she returned from the kitchen where she'd helped herself to a large plate of Maxine's meat pies.
Well met! 'Tis good to welcome you to the Bells! I hope Kelster will be along to join us, but in the meantime, may I offer you some ale, and perhaps, you might like to try these delicious meat pasties of Maxine's? They rival the best served in any establishment in Cumberland!

Hikenai was very happy to see the priest, and hoped he would join her in a tankard. She nodded at the bartender, and he began to draw up two large mugs for them.

He placed the mug back and grabbed something on his rucksack..

His cloak dusty from days on the road, he trousers torn from a branch in the dark that he snagged on while riding. Looking around the room he was taken in by the joy and happiness, something not found on many nodes as he came north.

A long ale and some bread thanks. Placing some coin on the bar he took his food and drink to a table against the wall that was empty.

The old Kells Bells, back with family at last Then in silence he enjoyed the hot bread and tall ale.

Kelster
Arriving at Kels Bells with anticipation to see if the work was finally complete Kel rushed through the door to see his wife had arrived before him. Walking up to her he placed his hand on her cheek and kissed her softly. Well my dear, time to draw back the curtain and see how the wokers have done with the extension to the tavern.

Walking towards the curtain that had been hiding the work going on, he held his wife's hand tightly. Well here it is. Pulling back the curtain to reveal the now finished work, he turned to his wife once again. What do you think my love? The tavern is certainly a lot bigger than most taverns I have been too although I have seen one this big before on my travels. How do you like it?

After looking over the extension and going back towards the bar, he spotted Prof and Fronz. Welcome to the new Kells Bells my friends. The drinks are on the house this day.

Ad the Baron rushes through the door Fronz is brought back from his day dreams to the reality of where he is. Standing he looks at the Baron and then bows formally. Greetings My Lord. I was ot expecting to see you at this time, ahh I was gong to get cleaned up before presenting myself at the Castle. Looking a tad shame faced for the unshaven ragged look of his Knightly Cloak and tattered trousers. Baron, may I enquire, of my cousin the Lady Hikenai, is she well? and my Lord, pardon my boldness, but has the birthing gone well? I have been starved of news in the south. All I know is what a courier from the Earl sent through 11 nights back. That was scant news, just that the birth was due momentarily.

Looking deeply and with a questioning gaze Fronz stands straight and ready for any news he can gain at this hour.

Prof.Sloth,

"Here! my very own Scotch-soaked cod biscuits! try some, im sure they go well with Maxine's meat pies and your blessed ale" ..

Hikenai accepted the cod biscuit, and nibbled on it, wondering how to explain to the good Father Sloth that she really didn't spend all her time here, but that she felt so comfortable in the tavern, that it was like her second home. The work they had done on it, during her period of confinement, was completed, but she had yet to see it. She was just about to suggest to Father that they look at the extension, when she heard her husband's voice.
Kelster entered the tavern and drew her momentarily away saying,
Quote:
Well my dear, time to draw back the curtain ....... What do you think my love? The tavern is certainly a lot bigger than most taverns I have been too although I have seen one this big before on my travels. How do you like it?

Kelster pulled away the curtain shielding the main room of the tavern from the extension. Hikenai's breath was taken by the size and scope of the addition! There would be plenty of room for music and dancing, now!
After looking over the extension and going back towards the bar, he spotted Prof and Fronz.
Quote:
Welcome to the new Kells Bells my friends. The drinks are on the house this day.

The tavern was huge now! Hikenai's amazement left her speechless for the moment! She had drifted away from Kel, and ventured further into the extension. The tables were heavy, the chairs sturdy, and along one wall three windows, heavily leaded, and beviled, looked out upon a deep gorge that dropped sixty feet or so, beyond the tavern, to reveal the wide expanse of a fast flowing river, which was gleaming with icy white water, and cut a silvery swathe through the evergreens that lined either side of it's banks.
Suddenly Hikenai was drawn back to the main section of the tavern by the familiar voice of her cousin, Fronz!
Fronz,
Quote:
Greetings My Lord. I was not expecting to see you at this time, ahh I was gong to get cleaned up before presenting myself at the Castle.

Hikenai immediately proceeded from the expansion, listening to Fronz continue as she approached them. She smiled on Father Sloth, as she came through the wide doors to the main room of the tavern, and she heard Fronz say,
Quote:

All I know is what a courier from the Earl sent through 11 nights back. That was scant news, just that the birth was due momentarily.

Ahhh, Fronz, cousin! How wonderful to have you surprise us this way! Yes! All went well, dear cousin and several days ago, Kelster and I became the parents of twins. To have our family with us to celebrate Matthew and Sara's births gives me such joy, Fronz! I am so happy to see you!
Hikenai hugged her cousin then, and fervently hoped he and his men would stay at Wallace Castle while they were in Egremont.
We are so happy to have you and your party come to the castle, Fronz, but first, as Kel said, drinks are on the house!
Hikenai then turned to Father Sloth and called out, Father, come and meet my cousin, Fronz!

Kel was just about to answer Fronz, when his wife appeard out from the extension side and replied to him.

As he watched the Baron for a reply teh ever beautiful Hikenai seemed to materialize out of another room right before him. Words caught in his throat as she expressed her joy on seeing him and then Hik told him of the twins. A bubble of emotion caught in his throat, it welled up from deep within. Seeing his dear Cousin again took him hard, hearing she and the Baron were blessed with twins brought it higher in him, then before he could do anything to stop it a tear formed and rolled from his right eye.

Ahh Dear Hik, I am so pleased for you and the Baron. Catching his breath he listened to them both as they welcomed him an encouraged him to stay with them up at the castle. You are both so gracious to an old soldier as me.

Drinks were called for, and the chats were lively and friendly. Then the priest made his words of parting. Standing, Fronz shook the Gracious Mans hand and expressed his desire to sit and talk with him again in the coming days. May Jah guide your path Father.
