= [ORP] Kel's Bells Tavern in Egremont

Roby123
Nothing like baking cake for pleasure i suppose. Aye it is a popular tavern and i suppose they need as many people as they can get.

He smiled as he looked around the tavern and the crowd of people who were already there. It would get busier during the night he guessed. He then nodded at Lilith's words and sipped his ale. His eyes followed her to the little girl with the pig bladder football and he remembered when he used to play it with his friends back where he was born. He wondered what ever became of them, he lost touch when he moved to Beeston, perhaps he will go back to Sheffield one day and see if he can find out. He smiled at his childhood memories, then he shook his head and looked at his ale. Why was he being so nostalgic recently?

The little girl and Lilith came back to the table and he made room by moving his chair slightly. He felt slightly akward that the little girl was staring at him, but he just took another sip of his ale and looked to the football. He was glad when Lilith asked the girl a question and he smiled, "HikUps!" Then he laughed and took another sip of his ale as he watched Lilith push hers away. He then returned the smile to the little girl. Something in her eyes made his instictly move his hand to his side to make sure his sword was still there. Maybe it was just his human nature of wanting to protect the younger children and women in the tavern. He also realised his shoulders were tensed up at the thought of someone coming in the tavern and attacking everyone. He thought about the time his ship had met Anto's off the coast of the Isle of Mann and smiled. He took another sip of his ale, his mind was definatly buzzing today but that was good, his senses would be more alert.

The man didn't have a much to say to me and that was alright. He laughed, and said "Hikups!" in a friendly voice, though, when Lady Lili asked if I had seen Lady Hikenai today. Sometimes people get hikups when they drink ale! That is better than spilling it, or getting all slurpy!
The cake was the best, and I finished it, and drank my milk. I saw Sir James sitting against the wall with a frown on his face, waiting on my mum to finish work. She was still talking to Phoebe, the new girl. I heard Raven tell my mum that the pretty lady who was eating the meat pie would stay upstairs tonight in the room next to Phoebe's, and she asked Phoebe to go upstairs and make up the bed for her. My mum went back to the kitchen, to check with Maxine on things back there, before she left. This was her usual routine and I was happy to see her go back there. I smiled at Lilith and the man, "I have to take my plate and mug to the kitchen now I am finished. My mum is nearly ready to go! Thank you, Lady Lili for the cake. It sure was good!" I hurried to the back then. I was tired, and I was ready to go home.

The tavern keeper leaves me to my meal after he tells one of the bar maids I will stay the night. He instructs her to have someone make the bed, and I notice, not long after, a young girl climb the stairway. She clutches the linens I suppose are for my room. I am not too tired, but I am ready to get settled. I will wait until later to go back to the ship and get the rest of my things. I missed staying in the inn in Liverpool, and it had been since we left the south since I have slept in a bed, and not a bunk aboard a ship. For the rest of the afternoon, I will relax here at the tavern. The musicians enter and tune their instruments. They rehearse, and I close my eyes, lost in the melody and in the lyrics.

...............By now you should've somehow
Realized what you're not to do
I don't believe that anybody
Feels the way I do
About you now

And all the roads that lead to you were winding
And all the lights that light the way are blinding
There are many things that I would like to say to you
I don't know how......................

Hikenai
Hikenai came through the doors of the Bells a bit distracted. She was anxious to get home to Neonea and the twins. She had also just learned that Father Prof had entered retreat at the church, and she was quite concerned. She hoped he had not suffered another spell of the amazing levitational feat she had been horrified to witness one day at the church. She'd wanted to grab a broom, and bat him down off the ceiling like a cobweb that day! Fortunately, a quick prayer to Jah, and calling Atri to mind, had done the trick. But now, her friend, Father Prof, was in retreat....However,-----Mother Anna was returning to Egremont! Better gather up all the pineapples, Hik thought to herself with a little giggle, or else lock up the ale.....

Hikenai waved at Evelyn, as the child left with Sir James and Lorena.

Bye bye, Evelyn! Have fun this afternoon!

The couple passed through the doorway to the kitchen of the tavern, with the child happily holding their hands. Hikenai sighed. If Luc Lanius could ever be divorced, or just declared dead, perhaps Lorena could get on with her life. Hikenai thought maybe Sir James had feelings for the woman....and Sir James would make a splendid step father for any child, and Lorena had three!

Spying her husband at the bar, and Lilith and Roby at a table, Hik was glad she had come to the tavern. Being with family and friends would lift her spirits. She hurried over to Kelster, and slipping her apron about her slim waist, she turned to her husband, and planted a smooch on his cheek.

Hello, love! My, my! With the full house you have, and the musicians already here, I thought I was missing the party when I entered!

Lili hugged little Evelyn when she took her farewell. She had such tiny hands they could barely hold her properly, but she loved that about children. "Take care Evelyn and have fun with the ball. Come by for cake again, I'll make sure there's a piece for you every day." She smiled and winked at the girl. It was a pleasure to have her around and little Neonea too, and generally children were a delight. Lili thought they were so clever and the fact that they could smell a lie mesmerized her.

As she watched her head towards her mother, she noticed Hik enter the tavern and walk towards Kel. She looked radiant and smiley and she figured it might be from the joy a full tavern always gave one. She smiled and waved at her sister in law, then turned to Roby.

"So how was the wee spooned cake?" she grinned.

Roby smiled as the girl spoke about taking the pots into the kitchen, she had obviously being brought up well. But looking at her mother, he wasn't surprised. As he did so, he noticed a faint breeze wash over him and he turned his head to the door and saw someone had just entered. He smiled when he saw it was HikUps, typical of her to come into the tavern when her name was mentioned. Or perhaps someone had said the round was on them, that was the time she entered the tavern as well. Though he was sure he didn't hear anyone say that this time. And he hoped to jah it wasn't him who said it without thinking again, then he shook his head. He has only had two ales after all.

He watched her walk towards Kel and kiss him, his heart ached once again at the thought og Hyper and he drank the remaints of his ale. His ears then picked up as he realised Lilith was speaking to him again.

The spooned cake was great thanks, but i heard what you said to the little girl, come back for cake anytime, i'll make sure there's a piece for you every day, does that count for all of us, or is that special treatment?

He tried to put on his best shocked expression but failed and smiled again. Though he did secretly hope that she would say the offer was for everyone.... well.... him anyway. He chuckled to himself at the thought.

She giggled hearing Roby. She knew he was after that cake!
"Well...I can't promise...but if you manage to be a good boy, you might get a piece on a regular basis.", she said and winked.

As she stood there, playing with her mug, she noticed Roby seemed somewhat lost in thought. There was a certain look in his eyes, a bit nostalgic maybe, or even a glimpse of sadness. She couldn't tell. But surely he was different than his usual self, or at least the usual self she had gotten to know until then. She didn't dare ask if anything was wrong, she figured if he needed to talk, he would mention it anyway. And she had no intention of intrusion.

But she could always try and lift his spirits, that surely wouldn't have been awkward in any way. So she kicked his boot from under the table and laughed, pointing at his nearly empty mug "Shall we have another, Roby?"

Raven pulled the next batch of bread from the ovens in Kel's Bells kitchen.

Aaaucch, Maxine, these are looking o'rdone! She grumbled and set the tray on the sideboard, picked up her tankard and sipped her ale, wiped the perspiration from her forehead, and the foam from her lips and smiled. Not burned, though, so the customers won't be complaining. Just a wee bit past golden brown.

Raven heard the rumble of thunder, and turned to the kitchen window. Angry clouds were building up to the east, a storm blowing in from the sea. She hoped if Forbes were on his way to Kel's Bells he would arrive soon, for she did not want him to be caught by the rain. Already the scent of it had rushed into the kitchen, when Maxine opened the back door that looked out on the Bell's small garden. She also hoped that Lorena, Evelyn and Sir James made it home before the storm broke! From the look of the ever darkening sky, the storm might break any minute now.

From the front of the tavern, Raven continued to hear soothing music as the musicians finished one song, and went into another.

Roby frowned at the words 'good boy', he had never been a good boy, but maybe his love for constant cake was stronger then the feeling of rebellion inside him. He smiled and winked back.

As he was lost in his thoughts, he felt Lilith kick his foot and he almost wobbled from his stool.

Aye that sounds like a good idea... i could do with one now!

He looked at the sorry amount of beer left in his mug. Then he heard it thunder outside, he was glad he was in the warm, cosy tavern with lots of cake and eye candy. He looked at Lilypad, and HikUps and then to the girl behind the bar, perhaps he could get used to Egremont after all, he wasn't so sure before with him leaving Beeston but he definatly felt comfortable in the town. And he felt like he could defend the town with his life after he knew most of the people, he would happily fight along side people such as Kel, and he knew Osbert had an army in the town for defence.

He made sure he kicked Lilith's foot back before they sorted out the next round and he laughed!

Are ye ready for a n'ther tankard, sirrah, or can I bring ye more from the kitchen? Maxine has bread fresh from th' oven. She smiled at Roby and then glanced at Lilith. Raven liked Lord Kelster's sister very much. The woman had such a sense of humor, and Raven admired that in a person. Life was hard enough without being able to take a bit of comfort where one could. Sometimes a smile, or a funny play on words among friends, brought light to a situation that might otherwise seem so bleak. It was always a happy day when Lady Lilith came into the tavern.
Lilith_
"Great time for a spring rain" she thought and shook her head, when she heard the first thunder. She figured it would be best to stay inside, home was too far to reach while it was pouring outside.

"I sure hope it won't last too long. Last thing I want is sleep in that closet next to Kel's boots again." she said with a worried voice as she glanced at Roby. "I do hope I get the ale with less alcohol, otherwise I might not get home either way.". Lili laughed heartedly, though she had no idea why. It was not the funniest thing, but she blamed the good mood she was in. And she had not a single bit of Os' naughty brownies yet. Was it the music, or just the lovely atmosphere in the tavern? She glanced around the tavern again and then stopped upon her own empty mug. In it lay the answer, surely.

"So....how do you like the town so far?"

Seeing the couple still immersed in their conversation, Raven quickly filled their mugs. She had seen Lilith glance at her empty mug, and she didn't wait for the young man to answer her earlier query. Raven heard the thunder boom again, and she was glad when the musicians moved into a beautifful rendition of an old, old melody she had heard as a wee child.

Roby nodded his head in reply at Lil's closet comment.

"I hate having to sleep in the tavern, which is why i drink more, just for these certain circumstances, the more drunk i get, the less i care about where i fall asleep!"

Roby smiled as Lilith laughed, he knew there were higher up then the rest of England, maybe it was something in the atmosphere that sent the locals slightly more loopy then the rest of the kingdom's people. But for some reason it had worked his way southwards to him too, so he wasn't so sure.

"I like the town actually, i didn't know what to expect when i got here, but i had heard from several people that the town was a place where the kingdom's party animals gathered to drink the night away, so i thought it sounded like a home away from home, only now it is my home....If you take the closest over there for example. I suppose you can say that is a home in a home, as i seem to spend more time in here then on my own.... or at work"

He felt slightly lightheaded himself now, he wasn't sure how many ales he had to drink already then he remembered the field he was supposed to be working on and had a miny heartattack. Then he remembered the rain, and calmed himself again and took a sip of his new ale.

Yes Hik, it certainly seems the tavern extension was needed and is now paying dividends for us.Oh, hold on a moment, you seem to have something stuck to you're eyelash, close you're eyes for a moment so I can brush it away. As his wife closed her eyes, he bent down towards her and placed his lips on hers, kissing her softly. Then he smiled at her. Sorry my love, I just could not resist you're lips any longer, they seem to have been calling me since you walked in.

Listening to Roby, Lili nodded "Of course, in the end, what matters is to have a roof above your head. Though I must confess....I still prefer my warm comfy bed to the closet." She giggled. "I am glad you are enjoying your time here. Having happy people around makes everything worth the while."

For Lili, Egremont had a spirit of is own, it was quite different from the other town she'd visited. And yes, maybe the ale did have a part in that, but the slightly lunatic inhabitants of the town by the lake were the ones that made her smile. Ale would work everywhere, one way or another, but there was something else she in these people's eyes that she loved.

She sighed, with a wide relaxed smile on her face as she accidentally let her eyes drop upon Kel and Hik while kissing, then whispered to Roby "Look at those two...If there is a definition for happiness, I would say it's them."
