Hikenai
Hikenai finished writing a response to Liza Wolf's letter and turned to Raven.
May I please have some chilled milk? And Raven, when you are done here, would you see where Neonea and James got off to? I expect they went to the stables.
The midmorning was warm with the sun of late spring, and Blythe Williams had accompanied Hikenai and the children into town. She sat across from Hikenai, checking over a list of matters to be tended to at the small manor at Hawkshead.
M'lady, Blythe said, I think probably there has already been one cutting of hay, and the tenants have gotten the seed in the ground. The produce from the winter gardens has probably stood them in good stead. With all the corn and wheat you are taking them, they will be well situated until harvest! No one shall go hungry!
As she smiled and sipped her milk, Hikenai wondered about the small country barony she had been given title to. Kelster and I will go to visit Hawkshead and Ravenglass before long, Blythe, and I look forward to it. There is Muncaster Castle to set in order, and the small manor house at Hawkshead, too. Hikenai suddenly shivered. Muncaster is reputed to be haunted, and remembering some of the stories I have heard, puts me a little on edge. We shall have the children with us when we visit....surely those were only stories, only legends I have heard about Ravenglass....and about Muncaster castle.....
Hikenai shrugged, it was silly of her to be superstitious she thought! She was a grown woman, with children, In any case, first things first! And tomorrow Lady Ghostwriter marries the Baron of Corby....so I need to collect Neonea and get her home to the bath tub!
