= [ORP] Kel's Bells Tavern in Egremont

Hikenai
Hikenai entered Kel's Bells and headed straight to the bar. Anyone looking her way would be aghast at how pale she was. Her face devoid of any color, her hair strangely darker, and absorbing light in its silvery shafts, rather than glinting with a thousand tiny, shimmery lights the way it usually did, when caught in the glow of the fireplace or a candle. Now Hikenai herself seemed simultaneously pale and strangely dark, as if there were a dense and ominous aura about her others could sense if not see!

Whisky, please!

Hikenai whispered rather loudly, almost like a hiss, to the barmaid, who'd looked up as she approached, putting down her cloth, and absentmindedly backing away, as Hikenai sat down on the bar stool.

Fortunately, the young woman responded quickly, splashing a generous shot and a half into a the jigger and setting it in front of Hikenai.

Thank Jah!
Hikenai muttered gratefully and tossed the hot liquor down her throat with one gulp. 'Tis good to be in the land of the living!

Hikenai pulled out a pouch and looked in Liz and Lili's direction.

Zuk talked about amulets........that there might be extra, and jewels, and well...
look...........and she pulled out a pouch from the bag at her side. See these? And very gently, Hikenai let several opals tumble into her palm. The milky stones caught the light from the fireplace and suddenly, they came to life as she held them. Opals, a travelers stone..........

Kelster
Still not able to understand why Hik had to leave so suddenly, after three days of waiting, Kelster still sat in his usual chair, drinking whiskey, always checking the door to see If his love would return. He had worried himself sick these last few days, thinking of nothing but her, imagining the worst. Would she return he thought, did she have second thoughts on there upcoming marriage, had the adventurous spirit of Hik turned her away from the thoughts of spending her life with him? Then a very pale looking Hik burst into the tavern, rushed to the bar and blurted out to Lil.

Whisky, please!
'Tis good to be in the land of the living! See these? Opals, a travellers stone..........

Kel wanted to rush over to her, hug her, feel her her body close to his, but , he thought to himself, she was talking to Lil and Liz. Where has she been, what made her look so pale? Why had she Opals and why did she talk of the travellers stone. Perhaps she was asking his sister and cousin to go away with her? Going on an adventure? Leaving her thoughts of there upcoming marriage behind her?

Not knowing whether to go over to her and ask these questions just yet for fear of what may be the answer, he sits back in his seat , in the corner, in the dark, listening the best he could as to what may be happening.

Lilith_
Lilith looked at Hik, she looked almost haggard, but her eyes had an eerie glow when she spread the opal stones in her palm. She forgot about even asking Hik how she'd been, all her attention immediately being captured.

"Ahhh...they are beautiful!" Lili felt trapped in their sparkles, it felt as if they were calling and she found herself unwillingly grasping towards the gems, her hands still dripping water, instinctively moving and touching the stones in Hik's palm. She took out one and moved to the window to look at it in the light, turning it around again and again.
She then turned to Hik "What happened in the Weald? And where did these wonderful stones come from? Are they....magic? And are you alright, my dear? You don't look much like your usual self..."

She could feel the stone burn in her palm, her curiosity ever crescent and she was so captivated that she didn't even notice her brother's hesitation.

"What happened in the Weald? And where did these wonderful stones come from? Are they....magic?

Upon hearing his sister speak, Kel's ears pricked up, was this witchcraft? What had happened to his love while she was away, why on earth had she gone in the first place? Leaving him so suddenly, he could do nothing but speculate, thinking that Zuk may be behind all this, his obsession with all things magic. Surely Hik had not taken up the dark arts, surely she was not like that, unless he had totally misjudged her! But why was she looking so pale? Could it possibly be through losing blood? Could she have sacrificed blood to get these so called magic opals? With there wedding so close, Kel began to wonder if Hik had been corrupted or possessed somehow. Staying in the shadows, he listened to the rest of Hik and Lil's conversation.

Veroncia
Veroncia walked into Kel's Bells and immediately seen her big sister, standing at the bar. She looked dishevelled and her eyes were on fire. Veroncia stopped for a second, a bit scared to see Hik this way. She had never seen her like this and wondered what was going on. She ran to her sister and hugged her tightly.

"Hik, what is wrong dear? You look like you just seen Jah himself!", Veroncia tried to giggle through her ever-growing fear of not knowing what was going on. Veroncia turned to the barmaid and asked for two more of whatever drink her sister just ordered. She had a feeling she was going to need it!

Hikenai stared at Lili for a second. How could she tell her what she had seen transpire in the Weald? Who would believe it! Then for a moment, she could not believe her eyes NOW, for her sister, Veroncia De Peche, hugged her!
"Hik, what is wrong dear? You look like you just seen Jah himself!" Veroncia spoke with a bit of alarm in her voice, that Hikenai could easily detect, despite the younger girls attempt to disguise it with a giggle. Oh, V! I am so glad to see you, I am so glad you are here! Lili, this is my younger sister, Veroncia! And V, this is Kels' sister, Lilith, whose making our dresses! She sews beautifully.....
Hikenai had totally forgotten that Lilith and Veroncia had already met! Indeed, Veroncia had been in town and at the castle for TWO days waiting for Hikenai to return from her mission with Zukran Baneshiel, since she had arrived at the castle just hours before Hikenai and Zuk left on the ir mission to the Weald. . Hik's eyes were still rather hollow, and she turned to Lili, concern and exhaustion in her voice.
I think I might need to go to the castle and rest for awhile before I see Kel. By the way, just where is your brother?

Spotting Veroncia, Hik's sister arrive and hearing Hik talk of going back to the castle for some rest, Kel decides it is time he got up and went over to them. I am here Hik, are you all right my love, do you wish me to escort you back to the castle?

Hikenai
Kel!
Hikenai threw her arms around Kelster and held him tightly. She had been gone three days and during that time, she had experienced an altering of her perceptions that had left her shaken to the core. All she had managed to bring out of it were the opals she clutched in her hand. Indeed, Hikenai's thoughts and memories now seemed merged into some walking nightmare from which she had only recently begun to emerge, with her arrival back at Kel's bar.

Kelster
Walking across the town square towards his tavern, Kels Bells, Kelster was still whistling the flower of Scotland to himself, so very happy his life was now all he ever wanted it to be. The gentle, warm spring sun on his face, the birds singing, the flowers starting to show there heads, yes he thought to himself, everything is good in Egremont. Walking in through the tavern door and flipping the sign to say open, he surveyed the mess from the night before. Yes, it was a good night last night! His wife Hikenai had already started to clean up but had not noticed him walk in. Creeping up behind her, he grabbed her quickly and spun her around, picked her off the floor and kissed her passionately.

Good morning my love, you had left before I awoke, you seem to be very busy already.

Hikenai
Hikenai felt the familiar touch as her heart began to race. She closed her eyes, smiled for a brief second as she felt herself lifted up, then kissed for a long delicious moment. As Kel lowered her to the floor, Hikenai placed her hands behind her back and untied the apron she wore, pulled it from her waist and took Kel by the hand, as he said, Good morning my love, you had left before I awoke, you seem to be very busy already. Her eyes never left his as she pulled him into the storage room at Kel's Bells, then shut and locked the door behind them. Hikenai loved keeping busy with Kel.

--Blackdrake
He entered the cool, deserted tavern and glanced around. The bartender perhaps stepped out he thought pushing a bar stool back with his foot and sitting down to wait. Blackdrake had come into Kel's Bells for some rolls and cheese, a bit of small ale to break his fast. His head hurt and the day would be a long one, he expected.

As he sat there, and waited for the bartender or the barmaid to arrive, he thought he heard muffled giggles coming from a door behind the bar.
--Blythe
As I came through the back of the tavern, I could clearly see the outline of a man, already seated at the bar! As I drew nearer, carrying a heavy tray from the back, I could see he was finely dressed and vaguely familiar. He stood as I approached, shuffled from one foot to the other and smiled strangely, looking away. I placed the tray of clean glasses on the bar and smiled at him.
What for you, m'lord? My, he was handsome, and seemed, well......embarrassed for some reason or another...but he did sit back down and he smiled, too, revealing even, white teeth, a happy countenance and huge dark eyes.
I would like rolls, cheese, a boiled egg, perhaps, and small ale, as well....tis a bit too early in the day for anything stouter! He had a rich, melodious voice and I turned, quickly got his ale, and then started back for the kitchen, to ask cook for the rest.
I could have sworn Hikenai had already come in this morning but now, she was no where to be seen.
--Blackdrake
I would like rolls, cheese, a boiled egg, perhaps, and small ale, as well....tis a bit too early in the day for anything stouter!

As Blackdrake sat in the early morning coolness of the dim tavern, he watched the young barmaid draw up his ale, place it before him on the counter, and turn to go back to the kitchen. He warily watched the door. He had advised his young clerk, Harkington, to meet him here, rather than at the law office.

As the woman returned to the front of the tavern with his tray of food, Blackdrake's attention was once again drawn to the closed store room door. He heard a muffled giggle and the low baritone of a man's voice. Suddenly the door flew open, and the owner of the establishment and his wife, no doubt, (Blackdrake thought perhaps it must be his wife, so intimate did the exchange between the two of them seem) quickly entered the area behind the bar, laughing and sighing, their hands touching, their eyes meeting with some private gleam. The woman laughed easily and arched one eyebrow as she said,

So, my love, I do think we need a good mouser here, to take care of that little varmint that keeps nibbling at the cheese!

And Blackdrakes eyes were immediately riveted to the block of creamy provolone on his plate!
Hikenai
Her face flushed a little and Kelster loved it! She could tell he was delighted! She sighed, shook silently with laughter, and grinned at Kel, but then had to look away to keep from laughing even more! In her attempt to appear nonchalant, it was very difficult for her to keep a straight face. Their customer appeared to be a somber gentleman. Hikenai murmured, So, my love, I do think we need a good mouser here, to take care of that little varmint that keeps nibbling at the cheese!

Oh, that came out all wrong and Hikenai really had to concentrate to maintain her composure then. It was really quite wonderful. Every time she was with Kelster, he had a way of keeping her laughing, keeping her merry. She loved him so much, she had not thought it possible to love him more, and yet, there it was.

But now, Hikenai tied the apron back around her waist, and slapping at Kel playfully with a towel, as she and Blythe returned to the kitchen for two more trays of clean cups.

Kelster
With a very happy smile on his face, Kelster walked back into the tavern bar room and was aghast to see people there, Blythe and a man he does not recognize.

So, my love, I do think we need a good mouser here, to take care of that little varmint that keeps nibbling at the cheese!

Having to bite his lip very hard to stop himself from bursting out into roars of laughter, he tries very hard to compose himself. Yes dear, I do think it is time we acquired a tavern cat, I know of a man who is selling some kittens at the market. A black cat would be lucky too for the tavern and if you have no objection my dear, I will get one and call him Felix I think?

Feeling very happy and contented at the moment, thinking of the so very bright future he had in front of him, his life with Hik, he went to pour himself a very large mug of ale.
