Morrandir
The time had come.
He had delayed the inevitable for as long as he could. It had been several weeks since he last laid eyes on her and yet he dreamed of her almost every night. Would she come to him now that he had finally settled matters? The tavern was ready... it had been ready for quite some time, but would Lady Shirinova still come to him after all this time had passed? After the way he left her side after that... incident in the tunnel. He could only hope that she would find it in her heart to forgive him.
These were the thoughts that ran through his head as he walked through the quiet town toward his tavern. It was late evening, drizzling and except for a few lit windows, there were no signs of life. In other words, Morrandir was in his element. Rounding the last corner, he came to a halt a short distance away from the steps leading to the front door of The Foxy Tigress. He climbed on a barrel across the narrow street to get a better view of the front door and the tavern sign. A small but visible grin emerged on his face as he examined the exterior of his tavern...
The heavy sign was hanging still in the light breeze, the newly crafted steps looked sturdy and the oak door almost majestic. Nothing like Sevenoaks oak, he thought to himself. Two tall and narrow windows would provide some natural light during the day, but still keep the tavern dim enough for him to be comfortable inside. The balcony wasn't big, but it served it's purpose as a way to air oneself after some heavy drinking, if needed.
Morrandir hopped down to the ground and made his way to the steps. As he climbed, his hand slid under his already soaked shirt and soon found what it was looking for - a thin chain going around his neck. He lifted the chain over his head and took the key on it in his hand.
Sliding the key into the lock of the mighty door, he twisted his wrist and heard a distinct snapping sound as the door unlocked. Alea iacta est, he muttered to himself. Too late to back down now... He pushed the door open and stepped into the light...
A familiar sight greeted him. The guest book had been placed between the wide benches on the left, the receptionists desk in the corner and a warming fire already roared in the fireplace. Good, good... He nodded contently. Everything looks to be more or less in order. Frowning slightly at the crumpled pieces of paper on the floor, he shrugged and decided not to let that minor detail distract him.
Morrandir would wait for Lady Shirinova by the second floor fireplace, so he could welcome her as soon as she arrived. If she would come at all that is. He set a plate of Mousie's famous rum cake next to the chair in front of the warming fire... and then he sat down in deep thought. What will I say to her...? He had thought of just about every issue there was, concerning the tavern, but when it came to her, he still had no idea what he would do, if she turned him down.
He took a big piece of cake in his hand and waited...
