[ORP]Merryweather Fortress

--Ferguson_of_brotherhood
With a nod from the Earl I stood up to address the group. Brotherhood Quarter Masters have near 1000 bread in stores, 600 corn, and we have started to gather a new store of swords and shields. The Ergemont 1st Defense Force is said to have nearly as many stores as well. In Carlisle stores have been hiden away in houses and aprtments, under instruction to not sell on market, but to hold them for most dire of times. People have been encouraged to grow corn and to store 30% every yeild. Even if the city falls, and an occupier does what NNGO did last time, buying up all food, we can keep flooding the market with goods until they are hard put to buy more. Having to invest masses of their money to keep people from buying cheap food. Flipping the page he goes on. The Brotherhood Quarter Masters would have it so that armies can come here with just the food they carrying and we will have supplies to see them through until other supplies arrive from the southern Counties. With that said and done he resumed his seat.

Wolf sighed, it was still nowhere near enough. "A full army has what... 32 soldiers fully occupied? That's 4 full retinues rallied under one banner. That's 64 corn a day. Times that by 2 for 2 armies, and make your food enough for 1300 daily rations, that's about 20 days food in total. Just under 3 weeks. Is that anywhere near enough? What's the ratio of consumption vs. rate of production? Sounds like 3:1 to me. Even if my math is off, if we have another siege like last time, that's not enough."

Lord Pendragon, I have seen the shape of the 4 armies we have here in Cumberland. They are staunch. Each led by Generals with experience. Each with solid supply lines. Each with retinues ready to join as needed. Black looks across the table at the tall man of Cumberland. Sir, they are ready, willing and able.

Listening to the man from the Brotherhood Qarter Masters is quite compelling. You have very interesting numbers there. How far do the couriers need to travel to get the food to the armies once they deploy?
Charlie.tylne
Lord Black, we of the Pegasus Traders wll be tasked with delivering supplies as needed. We will intially be using supply dumps that we have in all of the towns of Cumbria. This makes supply lines a non issue to start with.

As Lord Pendragon states, we are far from having enough food for a long siege. We will need to be baking more and growing and storing far more. We will also be rushing stores from the Brotherhood Southern Fortresses as we did during the last war.

Lord Pendragon, I would like you to consider that at the start of the last war there was hardly any such supply dumps here in Cumbria. You may feel this is in no way enough, but these supplies put us on a good starting point.

If Sir you have resources you could put at this effort, I am sure the Earl would be very happy to know of them, as would I. I myself am very impressed that The Brotherhood has invested so heavily in the defence of Cumberland time and time again.

The trip across Wales to Coast and not been fruitful. The intelligence was late getting to him, he late getting there. It had spoke of a war ship sailing South and landing on the far north end of wales. Baa Nothing but empty beaches and no sign of any landing arm.

He had taken advantage of being so far north. Put old Turoq in charge while he took on duties of his servant, and headed into Scotland toward Gallaway County. Perhaps he could make this trip pay after all.

One Never know whats going on with the NNGO.

After three days there, it had become apparent that there were an unusual number of unemployed louts hanging on with nothing to do. More than the normal number of small encampments out in the woods as well. Plus, as they had left Gallaway County, who should the pass on the road but Julius Octavious.

Well Well.

JO did not know him by sight, so there was no issue there. But this was news that Lord Padriac should be made aware of.

Putting together a short letter, he had sent one of his companions South to England at great haste, with instructions to get it to the first of the Brotherhood Command Knights that they met.

Quote:

P.D
J.O. in Gallaway,
Confirmed Sighting.
My Eyes Open.
Returning.
Ari..

His latest intel to get to him out of England, was that Jamie.Douglas and several other of rank, had been seen heading south to the Douglas family castle.

Perhaps there were events at hand.

He should return now but....He would discuss it with old Turoq.

Wolf nodded, "very well, I agree, it is a start but we still have much to do, which is why, I realise, we are here. I will operate one plan and open a tavern in Carlisle. If there is one thing I know how to do, it's how to choke supply to the enemy and that's by using the tavern and using pricing to good effect. Providing the armies can find a way to feed their soldiers high wages, we can manipulate tavern prices so that only our soldiers can afford the food and I will recycle those funds back to the armies via donations daily.

"Its a plan that worked last time to great effect and made sure that only allied taverns supplied allies while working as a supply dump that only allies can access. Unless the attackers are particularly rich, but still works in our favour by supplying allies with high amounts of money, which no-one can say no to. It's a win-win plan. As soon as I gather 100 pounds I will make my way and open another Pen & Dragon like the one in Keswick."

Getting up from his chair and pacing by the fire does little to calm the rage that is trying to boil up and over take his mind. He wants to snap at them, that now is the time to strike north. To bring the dogs to heel. That we have troops and armies to spare. Load up 3 of the armies and head north and smash Galloway like they dream of smashing Cumberland and all of England.

Wors flow about stores, supply lines and stats. All lost on the rage that boils with in. Still you horrid beast, the Earl has given his word, we man the wall, we do not go north at this time. So he paced as wiser and calmer minds talked it through.
Charlie.tylne
Lord Pendragon, I have 100 I can give you for such a worthy task. Can you list some goods in Keswick at a high price and I will buy them from you at earliest. Your tavern plan is worthy.

Wolf looked at Charlie5, "very well, you will soon see one or two rather exquisite ladders made by yours truly, made and priced at royalty standard, but strong enough to clobber any peasant's head without much of a dent to the ladders. Keep them for mounting the wall - I've been trying to get rid of them for weeks." He smiled with mirth.

He scrawled a note, opened the door and passed it outside.

Wolf returned and watched the fire for a moment before sparks danced out alarmingly. He smiled, "it is done, the ladder is ready."

it is good to see the discussion so lively

Commander Black, your review of the troops yeilded some interesting points that I found most enlightening

if you could, in the coming week, could you please drop by Keswick and our Barracks there, Lord Parkin here will see to it that you have full access

I would like you to do a full and comprehensive review, take longer this time

look at our structure, our supply lines and how and where we can improve

we must learn and adapt in every quarter
Caitilin
Cait rose as Wolfmist entered and hugged him. Wolfie, it is a please to see you. She retook her seat and listened when the conversation turned to the armies of Cumbria her interest peaked.

My Lords, it is one thing to have the supplies to feed an army but another to have the soldiers. What we need are retinues that are formed and prepared to rally at a moments notice. I know that General Osbert is prepared. I would like to have all of the armies filled to capacity, if the manpower is available.

The look on her face was that of a Captain concerned for the county she protected.

If you know anyone please have them form retinues. BE READY.

you are quite right Caitilin, quite right indeed

at the end of the day it comes down to bodies, well meat fed bodies armed with sword and shield standing the wall
Wolfmist_pendragon
Wolf looked around to Cait, "Hey Cait, good to see you too. I seem to remember making a fuss about bodies - " then he pointed to Paddy, " - and meat. We need to make sure that each citizen willing to fight is fed as much meat as possible from now on - another reason for my tavern to exist, it can be used to ration the meat but price would be something I would need to consider. What price would be equitable for the grand scheme of things?"
--Robert_of_the_brotherhood
Leaning forward Robert hands the Viscountess a list of troop deployments in Keswick and Carlisle. I can na talk for the other towns, but that is an upto date list of Brotherhood Knights and Militia, I think you will be happy with the numbers of troops available to step up at 10 hours notice.

we have been shipping in meat weekly to supplement the lack of butchers here

and we have sponsored 2 new butchers in the County recently

Charlie can give better numbers, but plenty of raw HHW is here and on its way

every town should have meat on its market daily

I know in Keswick that it sells as fast as it listed
