Wallace Castle

Hikenai
Hikenai smiled at Aef. "Pardon my tummy - it has a way of letting me know when it's feeding time. So some food and tea sounds lovely!" Aef said, as they both rose to their feet. I am rather famished myself! And I believe Alice May has taken something from the oven, for I smell something mouthwatering coming up from the kitchen! Hikenai exclaimed, as they started to proceed from the room.
It was then, as she happened to glance down, that she saw two little feet protruding from beneath the hem of the velvet drapes, which reached 10 feet from the tops of the windows, straight down to the floor, shrouding a tiny figure! Hikenai stifled a giggle, winked at Aefernum, and pointed to the little boots, the tips of the their toes smeared with what was surely honey!
James!
Placing an index finger against her lips, and barely able to suppress her laughter, Hikenai tiptoed to the window.

Aefernum
Aef's nose took in the delicious and quite mouthwatering smells from the kitchen. "Oh, my! That smells delicious!" Her tummy growled even more loudly, making her touch her tummy to sooth it. Hik caught her attention from her tummy with a stiffled giggle, and Aeffie's eyes caught the two honey smeared boots sticking out from under a pair of drapes. The shape in the drape revealed it was definitely a child hiding behind it, and with Hik's look, Aef realized this wasn't something unusual to happen and had to stifle her own laughter. Aef grinned widely at Hik and then her as she tiptoed towards the drapes. Aef decided to wait where she was. Moving forward would surely alert the child, as she could barely keep from laughing out loud.

Kelster
Stirring from his slumber, Kel finally gets out of bed, goes to the wash basin and splashes cold water on his face. Thinking to himself he has slept for far too long, he started to get dressed. Wondering where his wife had gone to, he made his way down the long stairs to see his old friend Aef creeping up towards some drapes with his wife following close behind. Wanting to shout out to them but then realizing they were up to something, he stood still on the stairs and did not make a sound.

He stood very silently, his eyes shut, as if he did not see them, they could not see him! Of course, they did not see him, he assured himself, for the heavy velvet curtain hid him, but James stood absolutely still and barely took a breath. He could sense that Aunty Hikenai and her visitor were preparing to leave the room! Once they left, James intended to head straight out the front door, quickly down the steps and directly to the moat, to play with the bull frogs! They would still be there this time of the mornin-----
James! Hikenai laughed, pulling aside the curtains. You little rascal! Come and meet an old friend of your father's and Uncle Kelster!
Aunty Hik was smiling, as James peered up at her, opening first one eye, and then the other, before relaxing and smiling himself.
"Hello, Aunty Hikenai!" And James looked at the pretty lady next to Aunty Hik, bowed formally, and said, "How'd' ye do, m' lady? I be James Wallace!"
Aefernum
As Hik opened the curtains, revealing a young lad behind it, Aef couldn't contain her laughter anymore. The look on the young boy's face was priceless. She stepped forward as she giggled lightly. The boy spoke as she reached Hik's side, and Aef smiled widely as the lad bowed before her. "Hello James Wallace! It is a pleasure to meet you. I am Lady Aefernum, but you can call me Aef or whatever pleases you," she winked at the young boy and then continued, "I am doing very good, and from the looks of it.." Aef grinned and pointed at his shoes, "...so are you!"

Figuring the young James was a fan of sweets, she found a raspberry sweet in her pocket. One of the many she had made before leaving on this trip. "I have quite the sweet tooth. And I especially love these raspberry sweets made from my grandmother's old recipe. My god son loves them and I spoil him with them when I see him. But since he is not here, and I happen to have a sweet in my pocket. Would you like to have it, James?"

Osbert
"...and this little piggy went weee weee weee, all the way home!"

Alyssum squealed with abandoned delight as I grabbed at her little toe and gave it a playful tug. She was bringing so much joy back into my days, and, now that the family had given its blessings, her continued presence in the castle, and into all of our days-well, she could work her little girl magic on us all. She brought with her a much needed balance; her feisty temperament and childish charm could win over the most hardened heart.

Talking with the little angel about her birth parents had been one of the most difficult things I've ever had to do; I had no way to gauge the depth of her grief, the memories she carried beneath those golden locks. Just saying that her mom and dad were now with Jah seemed so hollow and rote, but it was the best I could do. She could not possibly fathom the real fate, the real circumstances and toll of that evil war, not now...

Yet these moments, of childhood innocence, they negated all of that.

"Come on, squirt; let's go find the Lady Aef. and see if she would like to go for a ride on the estate. Maybe your Auntie Lil and the rest of the family would join us as well. Run on upstairs, and see if anyone is interested." I gave her a peck on the check and a playful swat on her bum, and away she flew, like a little bird...

How could I not be in love?

Hikenai beamed at Aef, when the young woman said,

James' eyes grew big, and Hikenai smiled at Aef for her generosity and thoughtfulness. What do you say James? Hikenai prompted---- for the little fellow was smiling speechlessly at Aefernum, with a look upon his face that clearly indicated he was smitten!

Xall
The door of the tavern opened and the early morning sunlight had shown in. Putting his hand up to shade the light, while laying on the floor, he stretched and got up. Dusted him self off and packed his things up.
Today was his first day off of duty in 3 months. He was given two days leave. He was excited to get out and see somewhere other than this war torn town. After many months of fighting and looting this place was a mess. Little by little, the members in the community were picking up the pieces of what looked like a nice little town. They all seemed to be united in the recovery of the place. Much work was yet to be done.

He headed to the tavern door with his pack on his back. He turned and thanked the tavern owner. Many nights he had spent in this tavern. After they closed, the owner would let some of the soldiers sneak in and sleep there till they opened as long as they did not disturb the place. Of course the soldiers were joyous over the offer. It was not much but it beat sleeping in the streets, especially on rainy nights. After leaving the tavern, he headed toward the edge of town.

After a while of walking he turned back and could just barely see the town. He had remembered the first time he seen it. He was marching up the road with the army he was in. There were several armies out side the city surrounding it.

……”There is the goal, troops. We take this town and the war is over”, his commander said. Looking at the castle, it did not seem like much, as he got closer he could see the red stained ground, where the many had died. You could still smell the dead. The stench of decaying bodies lingered in the air. Looking around he seem the funeral details placing the graves stones, while other unlucky souls we awaiting their time.

After many days of the siege, and some fighting took place they managed to break in. They took and held the castle. For months now, it seemed like years, they had been walking around this forsaken place and keeping a watchful eye out for signs of an enemy long gone. While other armies left, they remained.

During this time, while off duty he would visit the taverns. The same place he often used for a home and most often he ate there as well, if he got his pay. He tried to remember some of the names and faces he met there. He had heard of many of the people he met and was quite amazed that he actually got the chance to meet them. But there was one, one woman that made him take notice. The moment he seen her he knew. He had met her brother some days before in that same tavern. They had become somewhat of friends. His wife was a lovely woman. She was helpful and kind. The sister of course was wonderful. After a few nights of talking with her they had become friends. She has offered him to come their castle for a visit should he ever get out of this god forsaken place. He wondered if he would ever get the chance. It seemed like he would never get out of there…….

He awoke after a half of days travel and thinking back. He looked up and there it was. The castle was just a little south of the town that he was staying in. Right where she has said it was. He was excited. He hoped that the invitation she gave him was still good. He was hoping to see and meet the rest of the family she and her brother had talked about. They were good people and he want to see them again. He had hoped they would be home.

He walked up to the door of the castle and knocked.
Kelster
Not being able to help himself any more, Kel burst out into a chuckle as Hik and Aef pulled back the curtain to reveal little James standing there with very sticky fingers. Carrying on down the stairs he smiled to himself as Aef offered James a sweet and he could see the look on his young nephews face. A crush may be developing here he thought to himself. Just as he was about to say something to young James , his wife and Aef, there was a knock at the door.

Where is Thackery again, I hope he is not helping Os down in that cellar of his with his wine.

Walking to the door and opening it Kel saw a familiar face of a man he had met in his tavern in Carlisle, Xall. Instantly holding out his hand to shake, He spoke. Come in Xall, you look like you need a drink and food my friend. How was Carlisle when you left?

As they entered the hallway, he shouted to the maids to bring food and ale. Wanting so much to talk to him about the war, Kel nearly forgot to introduce him. Aef, you have not met Xall, we fought together in Carlisle, he is a good man. Then he remembered, how much his little sister Lil had become quite fond of him when in Carlisle, he thought to himself where she had gotten too.

Hik, could you get the maids to make up a bed for Xall, he needs some rest I think. We can't have him leave before we show him the castle. Then he whispered in his wife's ear. Do you know where Lil is? I Think she will be very pleased to see him here.

Hikenai
As Hikenai and Aef watched, James popped the raspberry tart in his mouth, and began to chew, still trying to smile at Aef at the same time! As Hikenai became aware of Kel's presence in the foyer of the great hall of the castle, she turned expectantly, as she heard her husband's voice clearly say,
Quote:
Come in Xall, you look like you need a drink and food my friend. How was Carlisle when you left?

Xall!
Hikenai smiled with pleasure as Kelster introduced Aefernum, then she nodded in agreement as Kel said,
Quote:
Hik, could you get the maids to make up a bed for Xall, he needs some rest I think. We can't have him leave before we show him the castle.

Kel stepped a bit closer to her, and whispered as to Lili's whereabouts. Yes, Lili would be most happy to see Xall....
Kelster, I will have some refreshments sent to the sitting room for you and Xall, and I shall have someone prepare rooms for our house guests, for both of you are welcome to stay on, as long as you would like!
Hik smiled at Aef, then looked with anticipation at Xall, the recently arrived guest. Hikenai loved to entertain, and to have houseguests who enjoyed her busy household, which seemed to grow by leaps and bounds with the addition of Allysum, and the wee one she and Kelster expected.
Aef, James, and myself were just on the way to the kitchen, and I will ask Alice or Thackery to bring a tray to you. I believe Lilith is in her workroom and I will be happy to go up and have her join us! Osbert may be in his room, as well, or in the study....and I will tell him we have guests! What a marvelous surprise!

Xall
As the door opened by the man he knew as his friend in Carlisle, stood before him and greeted him. He was offered to come in and he entered. What a surprise greeting he had received from friends a long time not seen. He took Kel's hand and returned the greetings.

Why yes some food and drink would be wonderful. A days trip from Carlisle makes a man a bit thirsty. He smiled. Carlisle is in better shape than it was some months ago. The markets seem to be getting healthy again. I believe the people are yet to return though. People are still too few yet to be seen in town really.

He turned his attention to Aef, he nods. Very nice to meet you. The honor is all mine.

Hear his name called out he spun around to see kel's wife Hik. He bowed to her.
You are as lovely as ever my lady. Kel is a very lucky man. I thank you for such a wonderful hospitality. You are as wonderful as I remember you to be.

So how are thing here in the country side? I hope all is well.
Lilith_
Only a few moments passed since her talk with Osbert. She sat in her armchair, with a wide smile on her face, looking out the window. Had been quite a while since she last saw her brother this content. Joyous times where to come and it seemed like the ending of the war was but a beginning, for the good times ahead. In some respects, she felt it was well worth it.

With no mood to continue working, she decided a short break wouldn't hurt and she walked to the door, in hopes of meeting little Alyssum. But as she exited her chamber, the great halls of the castle brought up to her the echo of a very familiar voice. A very familiar and dear voice. Her heart swell for a moment and she could feel the blood run up to her cheeks, as she stole away down the hall to the stairs. On top of the staircase she paused, placing her palms upon her face, hoping that the colour would fade, and took a deep breath before she stepped down the stairs.

"Aef! Xall! What a wonderful surprise!" She smiled and ran to hug her dear friend Aef, then turned to Xall and nodded a greeting. "Tis such a pleasure to see you again and to have you here as our guest. I do hope you will find it to your liking. Have you met my family?" She realized then, they must have met, besides he already knew Kel and Hik from Carlisle, so she smiled again and took a seat next to them. "How about we all go to the Kell's Bells" for a drink?"
She took another deep breath. The sight of this man gave her a strange feeling, strange but so pleasant that it almost confused her. She liked it. The feeling itself, him, the company of her family, the smell of the castle...Somehow, it all felt right again. Finally.

Just as he asked, he heard a voice. He smiled as the warmth filled his body. She was here. He did not want to seem to forward in asking so he waited patiently. He was hoping to see the woman he met and invited him to the castle. He turned to greet her and he was stunned. He bowed.

Hello my lady, How are you? He was almost paralyzed by her beauty. She looked more amazing than he remembered. He was breathless.

He smiles I am at your lead. A visit to kel's tavern sounds nice. I thank you for your offer.
Kelster
As Lil came down the stairs and greeted Aef and Xall, it was obvious to Kel that she was more than happy to see them. He then noticed the look in his sisters eyes as she talked to Xall, it was a look he had seen many times before, one he saw nearly every day when Hik looked at him. Smiling to himself, he thought that maybe Xall would become more than a friend to his sister.

How about we all go to the Kel's Bells" for a drink?"

Hmm, I don't know Lil, as you know I am not much of a drinking man myself. Stopping himself from laughing he placed his hand on his chin. But seeing as you insist, I suppose we can go there for a few drinks.

Xall had bowed to Hikenai and said,
Quote:
You are as lovely as ever my lady. Kel is a very lucky man. I thank you for such a wonderful hospitality. You are as wonderful as I remember you to be.

Hikenai smiled as Kelster, and looked back as Xall bowed. Hikenai was delighted to see Lilith descend the stairs and enter the conversation, her face glowed with pleasure at seeing Xall before her. Lilith said,
Quote:

The fact that Xall's face lit up when he saw Lili was not lost on Hikenai when he bowed to Lilith and said,
Quote:
Hello my lady, How are you? ......I am at your lead. A visit to kel's tavern sounds nice. I thank you for your offer.

Hikenai stood watching Lili and Xall's faces for often one's expressions said so much more than words, and then Hikenai had to laugh at Kel's reply,
Quote:

With a playful wink at her husband Hikenai spoke up, Ah, and I was counting on you drinking for the two of us, my love!
Hikenai laughed then, as Kelster insisted she only drink milk nowadays!
I think we should all go to Kel's Bells, though, and we can have a bite to eat there! Let's go! Are you all as famished as I am?
