Wallace Castle

Kelster
As the village idiot walks off, Kel breaths a sigh of relief. Gullping down his mulled wine after such a traumatic experiance, he then here's outside, carol singers. Shouting out to all the guests. Quick everybody, we have carol singers outside.

Rushing towards the door, he opens the main doors and there is Aiiane who he had heard earlier that day at Marae's house. Just standing there , listening to the haunting sound, Kelster Wallace felt warm inside.

Though the table's laden with treats, he still looks up as a coin comes flying.

I thanks ye kin'ly, good Sir, fer the coin - an' ye kin sure 'ave one o' e'erythin' - ere's a leg o' chicken to start wi' this as a chicken leg goes sailing back the way the coin had come.

Oi! They's all lookin' out th'doors! Quick quick and so he starts stuffing his pockets and face near-simultaneously.
Quannanhade
'Twas a night a few before Christmas, when all through the Castle
Alot of staff were working, but they were not hassled;
The stockings were worn on legs to hide hair,
In the hopes that no-one would see there;
Kel was nestled all snug in the Village Idiots arms,
While cursing his abundance of innate charm.

And with that, the ghastly voice stopped ringing throughout the Castle and QuannanHade stepped forth from the fireplace.

Sorry I'm late; had oil troubles. I was forced to travel the 'good old-fashioned' way. Log-fires are so inefficient compared to a nice lantern...

The Holly and the Ivy
Medieval Baebes

.......And his mother bore sweet Christos on Christomas Day in the morn.
Oh, the rising of the sun and the running of the deer,
The playing of the merry organ, sweet singing in the choir.

The holly bears a bark as bitter as any gall,
And his mother bore sweet Christos for to redeem us all.
Oh, the rising of the sun and the running of the deer,
The playing of the merry organ, sweet singing in the choir."
((ooc// A bit of artistic license was taken to modify this tune to fit our RK official religion))

Hikenai nodded solemnly to Kelster, as they stood in the foyer of the great hall in Wallace Castle, listening to the carolers that had recently arrived. His suggestion they entertain during the holidays was affording them memories of friends and family they would treasure always!
The last lovely strains of The Holly and the Ivy lingering on her ears, she was delighted by the visit of Lady Aiiane, and her group, to their party! Hikenai signaled one of the serving ladies to get refreshments for their muical guests, nodded to the harpist in the corner to please begin playing, and glanced at the idiot and urchin, to make sure that they were happily eating figgy pudding and other delicacies.
She smiled in welcome at Quannanhade, who was warming himself before the fire. He'd sung a bit of a holiday tune, himself, then said,
Quote:

We are happy to have you join us,Quan. Hikenai replied with a smile, before she stepped up to her husband.
She turned to Kelster, reached out for his hand, and smiled lovingly at him. She called to Lady Aiiane, Please, dear lady, come in and join us all! Stay on with us now, for some food and drink! Your presence is a blessing to us! Perhaps we shall have more music, and join you in song!

As the beautiful sounds continue to echo around the castle walls, Kel turns his head to watch the village idiot and a young boy taking full advantage of the fare on offer.

Spotting Marae still hanging up some mistletoe, He calls her over. Come Marae, listen to the carol singers. Offering her a large glass of mulled wine he then hears his wife speak.

Please, dear lady, come in and join us all! Stay on with us now, for some food and drink! Your presence is a blessing to us! Perhaps we shall have more music, and join you in song!

Wonderful idea Hik. Please, all come in and join us. Then turning around once more, he starts to wonder where henry has gone too. Spotting quan warming himself be the fire, he directs Thackery to take him over a drink.

Henry
Henry listen to the beautiful music. It lift his heart up and make him feel so happy he have a small tear in his eye. His heart is so full of happiness his joy is leaking out. He smile at his friends, seeing their happiness on their faces too. He is very happy when other people comes to join them. He is still drinking the mulled wine and has forgotted that he can't handle his drink very well. His cheeks is very pink and his eyes shining. He think maybe he should think to eat something before he fall asleep from the drink like he did once before. So he follow to the table and sit down so he can eat some of the lovelys food. He has never before seen so much food in one place and he not sure where to start. He does know that he has a very rumbly tummy, must be from the cold and the exercise of today.

Aiiane
Aiiane accepted the invitation gladly. This would be their last stop before heading out to Carlisle the next day to continue their tour of good cheer. Truly, Aiiane thought, it had seemed to benefit Josina even more than those they had visited, but if they had also brightened the day for others, it was a wonderful lesson to her charge as well. Whether noble born or not, for people to flourish each needed to have a care for the welfare of others, including giving a bit of happiness when one could. All along their trek thus far, they had stopped to hand out alms to those less fortunate than themselves and it had pleased Aiiane to see Josina take enjoyment from this and not question the generosity. It showed she already had a giving heart and Aiiane intended to nurture it.

“Lady Hikenai, Lord Kelster! We would be most delighted to accept your hospitality. Your home is so beautifully decorated, don’t you think, Josina? Oh, and I beg pardon, I would like to present my ward, Mistress Josina Hamilton-de Grey. She is the daughter of my niece, the late Lady Brianna Hamilton-de Grey and her husband Serdan Hamilton.”

Aiiane looked down at Josina expectantly and the child did not disappoint. She made a pretty curtsey, “Most pleased to meet you, mi’lady – mi’lord. And thank you kindly for your hospitality.” She unconsciously mimicked some of Aiiane’s mannerisms as she spoke. Looking up at her Aunt, she was very happy to see the look of approval upon Aiiane’s face.

When she turned to introduce Toby and Nicolas, she discovered they had already made for the carriage to imbibe in the cider and, most likely, something stronger in their flasks. While Nicolas could hold his own in any company, Toby did not care for crowds and kept mostly to himself. There was also the contingent of guards standing around the door to the carriage, refreshing themselves as well. Aiiane made a mental note not to stay too long. The men nor the horses needed to over-chill.

Turning back to her host and hostess, she spied a familiar face, "Henry! Is that you? How are you doing?"
Saskia
Cold and wet after the ride in the snow, once the tree had been decorated and the wicked Kelster Wallace was out of the way, Saskia had snuck upstairs to find Lil's rooms. Lil had lots of pretty dresses and it being a party and Saskia looking like something the cat drug in, it was inevitable she'd raid her friends wardrobe, no one could blame her really and if she smiled enough, they'd all be dazzled by her smile and not notice she'd pinched a posh frock.

Wandering back down the stairs and into the party, she had witnessed the smouldering tension between Kel and the Village Idiot and then them all rushing outside to hear the carols. Torn between diving on the free food or following the throng, she eventually decided to follow the crowd outside, reasoning there was less chance of being cornered under the mistletoe by the Village Idiot that way.

Catching the chicken leg that was thrown at him by the urchin, the Village Idiot harrumphed and wondered at the Wallaces not hiring better help. Chomping away on the leg, his attention was momentarily distracted from finding a woman by the desire to fill his belly and when there was a call for all to go outside to hear the singing he joined the Urchin in gathering up as much food as he could, storing most in his pockets and cramming a bit of everything else into his mouth.

Deciding to get back to finding a woman, he saw Saskia gliding across the room in something that looked like that bridesmaid dress Lil had worn to Hik and Kels wedding. Cringing as he knew he'd likely get dragged into a brawl on this one, he set off after her.

"Perfect!" she whispered to herself and grinned. With everyone so busy and distracted with the carols, the drinks and the winter games, she was free to go unnoticed. She crept inside the castle, squeezing herself through the crowd and sneaked up the stairs in a hurry, throwing a quick glance around from time to time. After all, she had to make sure no one would see her by accident. She carefully stepped towards her room and turned the key trying to make as little noise as possible. As she instinctively reached for the candle, she figured it would be best not to draw any unwanted attention. She then led herself to the drawer, in the uttermost darkness and started rummaging through it, feeling every item she touched with the tip of her fingers "Wool, silk....leather...Aha! Fluffy feathery sleeves and the most perfect velvet!" She took the items in a hurry and hid them under her cloak, then covered her face with the generous hood and dashed out of the room and out of the castle faster than she ever imagined.[...]

Quannanhade
QuannanHade was warming himself by the fire ("Not even 25°C? This is barbaric cold...") when he thought he saw a hooded woman rushing towards the exit.

Working in a Weaving place, he was sure he'd seen similar behaviour and attire before... But he couldn't think of why a shoplifter would come to the Castle; even a magnificent one such as this...

Ignoring the strange women and his former General's antics, he curled even closer to the roaring flame.

"Blasted torrential rain is bad enough, let alone when frozen as it falls... Who ever heard of such bizarre weather?"

He heard the sound of chicken bone hitting beautiful rug and rolling onto flagstone and turned his attention away from his glass of port just long enough to see a certain full-mouthed (and pocketed for that matter) ex-officer chasing someone in a bridemaids dress.

Chuckling, he continued his quiet monologue.

"They say 'only mad dogs and Englishmen'..."
Kelster
“Lady Hikenai, Lord Kelster! We would be most delighted to accept your hospitality. Your home is so beautifully decorated, don’t you think, Josina? Oh, and I beg pardon, I would like to present my ward, Mistress Josina Hamilton-de Grey. She is the daughter of my niece, the late Lady Brianna Hamilton-de Grey and her husband Serdan Hamilton.”

As Aiiane spoke, Kel looked towards Josina but before he had a chance to say hello, she spoke first.

“Most pleased to meet you, mi’lady – mi’lord. And thank you kindly for your hospitality.”

He smiled at how polite the young lady was .You are most welcome Josina, please come in out of the cold, all of you. I will get you some drinks. What would you like, we have mulled wine, mulled cider, wassail or scotch. Maybe a small glass of mulled cider for you Josina? What will you have Aiiane?

As he spoke, he spotted out of the corner of his eye a figure rush by. Hmm, wonder who that was he thought to himself. Then as he turned to fetch the drinks, he saw Sask, wearing one of Lil's dresses, he bridesmaids dress from there wedding none the less. Deciding it was no time to make a scene he said nothing but scowled at Sask as he walked by.

Aiiane
"Oh yes, please! I do like mulled cider", Josina said, almost breathlessly. Her excitement had not waned during the trek to Egremont and the stops at all the homes and the handing out of pennies to the poor children. Auntie even had a basket of marchpane that had been broken into pieces that she was allowed to give. Josina had watched in amazement at the expressions upon their faces change from curiosity to delight. Josina knew exactly how wonderful the sweet was, for she'd been allowed several pieces by cook as it was being prepared.

She had noticed that her Aunt had been handing out rather heavier purses to the children's parents and she suspected the pouches contain more than just a few pennies. Auntie Aiiane, when questioned upon this practice had stated it was far better to give than receive, but Josina was not quite convinced of that. It did make her feel good to give to the other children and see the delight the small gifts brought them, but she did not think it made her feel as good as when she herself received a gift. Perhaps, she thought, this was a grown-up quirk, making her doubly joyful that she was still a child.

Aiiane laughed softly at her niece's enjoyment of what Aiiane had hoped would be a treat for the child. "Thank you, I shall also enjoy a cup of mulled cider, Kel. We shall be on our way towards Carlisle after this and the jostling of the carriage will not mix well with spirits, I think."
Hikenai
The pleasure of Lady Aiiane's visit was doubled for Hikenai by the presence of Josina! The child was lovely and, as Hikenai and Kel welcomed the carolers, Hik was aware of Neonea, standing back awaiting the proper moment to speak up in welcome, as well.
Kelster said,
Quote:
What would you like, we have mulled wine, mulled cider, wassail or scotch. Maybe a small glass of mulled cider for you Josina? What will you have Aiiane?

Welcome to our house! O'I'm Neonea Wallace! I like mulled cider, too! Neo spoke up warmly to Josina, with an inviting expression on her face. The six year old grinned shyly at Josina. She stood slightly behind, and to the side of Hikenai, her blond curls reflecting the soft glow of candlelight, giving an angelic aura to her shining little face.

Lady Aiiane said,
Quote:
"Thank you, I shall also enjoy a cup of mulled cider, Kel. We shall be on our way towards Carlisle after this and the jostling of the carriage will not mix well with spirits, I think."

Blythe brought the cider for the group, and Hikenai turned to Lady Aiiane once more. Our Christomas is blessed this year by the addition of Neonea to our family. It does my heart good to see your niece with you, looking so happy and well!

Getting outside just in time to see the look Kelster had shot Saskia, he'd held his breath, not fancying going toe to toe with the gentleman again so soon.

It was then he'd spotted her, the most gorgeous creature he'd ever laid eyes on. Feeling like he'd been kicked in the stomach, he was breathless at the sight of Lady Aiine De Grey. As Aiiane walked past him, he removed his hat and doing elaborate gestures with his hands, bowed low. Slowly rising back up, he grinned gormlessly at the delightful creature and tried to spy if she was by any chance going to pass beneath a bit of mistletoe. Ready to spring into action should Jah's graces shine on him, all thoughts of getting Saskia out of whatever mess she was in this time were long gone.
