(ORP) Royal Parade & Coronation of King Cullan Holifard

Aggnes.holifard
"Thanks." Now she came to think of it, she was hungry. She couldn't remember what she'd done for dinner last night.... oh, that was probably the crusts from a pie she could see on the side. And the cake she'd had in the AWESOME chapel, sorting out the final details of the wedding ceremony.

"I must admit, I've barely kept track of the dragons, even the Westmorland one. Good to hear people are enjoying themselves, taking part. The more we can get everyone to think of England as "us", not "them", the better."

Another page came in, and she glanced at the letters he brought. "No, no, and no. Any more today goes in the inbox, not to me. The Navy are perfectly capable of managing their own affairs without my supervision, and Westmorland Council can reprimand their own idiots for a while. Today, I have a day off."

Lavea
Lav nodded, taking her own bowl of chicken broth to break her fast, and moping it up with some bread.

Taarna
Bleary-eyed, Taarna awoke in a strange bed. She had to stop and think for a moment and remember where she was. Ah, yes...in London, at the King and Princess' wedding, and the King's Coronation. She stretched lazily, then jumped up out of bed. This was the day!

Hurriedly, she dressed in simple clothing to start the day. a simple dress would do, at least until the festivities began. She knew that there would be a simple breakfast served - or what passed for simple here; for her, she was sure, it would be a most interesting experience, as her usual fare was simply bread and either milk, ale, or tea.

After eventually finding the room in which the meal was being served, she found Aggnes and Lavea enjoying light conversation and....something. She couldn't quite see what it was from here. But nonetheless, she entered the room, curtsying, and announced herself with a hearty "Hello and good morn!".

Taking a seat, she looked at a pile of papers next to Aggnes. "Been busy at work already, have we?" she asked. It seemed that a Monarch's - or a Monarch's wife's - work was never done. Not even on their wedding day!

"I am curious as to what might be served to break one's fast, and if you might possibly have ginger tea and honey...." Taarna asked, just as her stomach protested. Hm. Well, they couldn't have that going on at all....if they didn't have ginger - and she would be surprised if they didn't - she would have to carry some of her candied ginger with her.

She looked askance at both Aggnes and Lavea, and saw several servants enter the room. Perhaps this would be the food...

Wandering the halls, Lady Withdean wondered where breakfast was to be served. It was to be a long day and it wouldn't do to for her to fall faint right onto a heap of cloth.. lordy.
Maman would be mortified.

Ha smiled to the young lady. "Fine lass. I'm...tasked ta reflect. Bein' as I'm ta be a King an' Knight all in one, I thought tha' comin' fer a knight's vigil was best. But..." he looked Syu his little paper of sins. There was so much he wanted to say and do, but he never felt he had enough time. "I asked ya ta give me my spurs 'cause yer...so devoted ta th' virtues. So..." he lowered his voice, sighing "tell me what bein' a knight means ta ya."

Kazzia_llewellynn
Kazzia's feet were already on the floor and her hair was finished being dressed when the knock sounded to awaken her to break her fast with the Queen to be and the rest of the bridal party. She quickly stepped into her morning slippers and allowed the poor girl to lace her gown, the last step to her morning ritual. She stayed close to her guide, not wanting to be distracted looking at something pretty and become lost in the vast expanse she now wandered. She entered the door where she was told to go, unsure as to if she should knock, the question was answered for her when the servant opened the door. Stepping inside she curtsied to the ladies already present, She hugged Bets, and then she moved to Taarna's side and quickly hugged her friend. Good morning, Your Highness. Good morning, Lady Lavea, Good morning, Lady Withdean, Good morning, Taarna. She smiled at the assembled group. She was a morning person some times, apparently this was to be one. She seated herself, assuming there was no seating order. A bowl of broth was placed before her and Kaz found her stomach tumbling at the thought of standing before that many people today, no, best to prevent upsets for herself a simple piece of bread would suit her. She could simply stir the broth and perhaps one of the other ladies would like it. She shook her head, no it would be best to try and take some, the seasoning would be some help with a nervous stomach she was sure. Trying it she found it was quite good and perhaps she would be able to complete it after all.

Here Noro entered, draped in a green finery, subtle yet appropriate for the occasion, loot strapped to his back, the old instrument was beginning to show signs of age that no amount of maintaining could hide. The strings were tuned, the wood polished. He entered the area where the ceremony itself would take place, looking around to see if any had arrived yet in the wee hours of the dawn.

Aleks yawned and rubbed his eyes as he approached the hall where the others had already gathered. He was just wearing his cassock. He'd put on his chimere, cuffs, scarf and cap later. The last thing anyone needed was food on the vestments of a person participating in a national ceremony.

He mumbled something intelligible to someone nearby, most likely a "good morning" but even Aleks wasn't too sure. Walking over to the others, he greeted them all. "Hello all. So, what's for breakfast?"

"Yes, I stopped work when Lavea reminded me that it was dawn. No more for me today - a nice leisurely day off."
She raised an eyebrow at Taarna's request. "There should be ginger tea, yes - if the maids don't have it, I've got ginger around, and mint to go with it might help. I'd suggest bread and honey if you're feeling nervous. The calves-foot jelly is easy on a delicate stomach, too. I suppose I'd better not have too much myself, not if I'm going to fit into that wonderful dress."

Turning to the bedmaids. "Wake up knocks now please."

"I would be happy to assist in knocking up some of the bridesmaids." offered Demdyke, who had spent all night waiting to be useful.

This was going to be a big day for Kendal, what with Aggnes becoming Queen and getting married to some bloke from Sussex, so he wanted to be on hand to ensure that nothing went wrong with Aggnes's big day.
Airya
As usual, Airya was totally off balance when invited to participate in these grand events.
She left her musicians outside the church.

.and hoped her blue dress wouldn't be
noticed..as rather out of fashion.

She seated herself at the very back of the church.. hoping
no one would pay her any mind. Remembering "not to fidget" was the only thing
she could think of. Even though this was the third coronation she'd attended,
she was just as nervous as she'd been at the first one.
Jasmine.
Jasmine smiled warmly at the King-elect as he spoke. She was not sure which feeling was highest on her list of feelings at that moment. She was deeply honored as part of the Order he chose to come to in this special night. She was also proud which was even more than her other feelings as she was proud of the man who understood what was on the path ahead of him to the last detail that he felt the need and found the time in a very tight schedule to stand a Knight's vigil before his Coronation and before he would dawn those spurs he wanted to be prepared, Earn and honor them and what they symbolize.

She took a deep breath thinking over his question as so much came to mind and if she gave herself some time she could think of even more to answer that question. It was a deep and far from an easy to answer question. She sat down slowly as she knew it would take a while to answer him properly specially in her still half asleep state of mind. When was the last time someone asked her that question? so long ago but she asked herself that question most often to make sure she did not forget nor let life cloud her mind and blur that path in front of her.

She cleared her voice speaking softly to him, "Being a Knight to me is so many things...and everything. To be a Knight is to willingly choose to live by the virtues and up to them. To willingly hold yourself to a much higher standard than others are held to. To not give yourself excuses when you fail and hold yourself accountable hundred times more than you hold others. If a man can be forgiven for his temper, a Knight should not entertain that same right. It is to willingly and knowingly put much more restrain upon yourself because you know the day you take that oath you no longer belong to yourself alone. It is to live for others and by a strict code that sometimes grounds you and chain you only to make sure you harm no one including yourself.

It is to live by virtues like Honor, Loyalty, Generosity and Temperance among many others that if we start talking about we can take months at end and yet not reach their full depth. It is a way of life and a state of mind. Being Knight to me is like the breath within my chest a part of me without it I can't live.

Allow me to tell you a tiny bit about the virtues I mentioned from my own view. Honor and Honesty, they are and always have been tied together with bonds that cannot be broken. A man who would have Honor must have Honesty. In a world of chivalry a man's word is his bond. This is as it should be. All people should guard against swearing lightly, as what is sworn must be done. So to be a Knight you must have honor and to have honor you must be willing to be honest no matter what. Never take an oath too lightly nor speak a word without thought because the day you break an oath you lose a part of yourself.

When I say Loyalty, I don't mean the immediate and narrow meaning of it. A knight should be loyal to the Crown and Country but also Loyalty can mean defending or helping someone to whom he is not sworn, but to whom he owe his help. A Knight should always work for the good of the Kingdom. The good of the people and loyalty does not mean blindly following because letting their leader fail while they follow is not a form of loyalty but stopping him if and when they can from bringing harm upon himself or others is. Also a knight should be loyal to the people but before that he should be loyal to his heart and beliefs because if he loses those nothing upon this earth can help him.
"

She smiled and continued, "Also a Knight should be generous and show largess towards all from Kings to peasants. The difficult part about this virtue is not in being generous with goods or with praise, but being generous in giving the benefit of doubt to your opponent. If you must speak on the issue, ask gently and keep an open mind. Be generous with your time, patience, and understanding.

All the virtues are tied together by Temperance. A knight should always seek to understand and follow the “right” path, unencumbered by bias or personal interests. He should be fully aware that the sword of justice can be a terrible thing, so its use must be tempered by humanity and mercy. A knight must seek wise counsel in determining that which is “right.”

This is the hardest of all the virtues that you can find as temperance is a virtue that is like the ocean waves that rise and fall with the tied. The higher the tied the easier it is to find it so a knight should learn it and keep at it and when the tied is low and he feels that he is failing, he should try harder and never give up. No man can muster this virtue but a wise man keeps on trying.
"

She took a deep breath reflecting on her thoughts and words trying not to overwhelm him with so many thoughts and concepts to take in. She smiled warmly at him, "But above all, a knight should realize that he is not a perfect being but one who strives to be as close to perfection as he can get. A knight should not hold tight to materialistic glory as it clouds the mind and heart but instead hold on to his goal which is to serve and aid. This is the warning that I give all my Knights and all those upon our Path including myself. Our greatest danger is Vainglory. It lurks behind virtues and glory. We all should beware of the excessive Pride, for it is a failing we are all open to. This is the reason why I urge every knight to always hold their pride in check with humility, to always seek honor over glory, and to always do honor unto their Inspiration.

To be a knight is to be the soothing hand of mercy and the swift sword of defense. A knight is the shield of the weak who shields those in need without paying much attention to his own. A knights' biggest ambition is to be in service of the people. This is and so much more is what being a Knight means to me."

She paused for a long moment giving him time to process what she said before continuing in a gentle assuring tone, "So tomorrow when you take your oath take it as a Knight should and hold it as one. When you dawn your spurs take in the symbol with all its meaning. Be the Knight your people need you to be before being the King expected to be. Listen, help, aid, trust, and honor those who deserve and those who don't. When you do something do it because it is the right thing not because it is the wish of anyone including yourself. Always be the judge of your deeds before others judge you. Keep your pride, temper, dreams and ambition on check so none of them sneaks into your heart while you are busy and try to change it for you.

As a knight and King you are held to an even higher standard and you are expected to behave your best even when you feel your worst. Life at times will prove to be your hardest challenge. When it gets this way, remember that day you took your spurs and oath and that it meant you promise to rise up to each challenge no matter how hard it will be. You will have to face yourself before facing others and if you find yourself falling short don't deny it but mend it and move forward....
"

That moment and with her last words she stopped and looked at him with a new found realization, "You already started your path a while ago... Those many months ago when you refused to deny or argue that you were harsh to someone, you acted exactly as a knight should. You stepped up and faced yourself when you offered apology to those you hurt. You did not let your pride tie your tongue, you shunned your temper and stubbornness and admitted when you were wrong.

You walked the Knighthood path without being asked to or directed towards it because the way you forced yourself to change and the higher standards you demanded of yourself to rise up to are those of a true knight. Maybe you were not that man years ago but you are that man now and this is what matters most.

A man who refuses to conform and throw his arms in the air only to say, this is how I am and I am not going to change so live with it, is a Knight because he faces himself day in and day out. I have known you for years and I have seen who you were and who you have become and I would confidently say you are already a Knight now. You are truly ready for your spurs as much as you are for your Crown.

You know me well and you know I would never say this if I don't believe it with every ounce in me. You might think you are standing your vigil tonight but in all honesty you have been standing it for months. You stood it the day you apologized to Jony and the day you stepped up and apologized to everyone you hurt even if unintentionally. You stood it when you refused to use your power in fear of becoming biased by it but instead you went seeking the counsel of those you believed would be partial and you made sure your Council stayed in check on the matter. You stood it the day you had the right and power to execute it harshly yet chose to lower that sword and instead let forgiveness guide your steps. The day you had every power to rightly punish and instead you chose to guide and teach.

You stood it every time you stopped yourself from doing what you can and chose to do what you should instead. You offered guidance to those who asked you, you offered friendship unconditionally. You demand nothing from others to keep your favor and respect other than being respectful and worthy of it. You stood it every time you refused to give up when you fell and instead pulled yourself up and forced yourself forward when others would give up and turn into silent shadows.

This is exactly what Knighthood is all about and how a knight should be.
" She smiled softly giving him an apologetic look as she knew she spoke much more than she intended to but that was the shortest answer she could give to that question.

He had been staring towards the ceiling for a few hours already, despite being tired and the long day ahead of him. He could hardly imagine how the soon to be King and Queen would be feeling right now. Surely they wouldn't have had any sleep at all. As it was nearing 6 am, he dragged himself out of bed and got dressed. He had been given instructions to meet at the King's room for breakfast and any final preperations deemed necisary. Looking as sharp as he could be this early in the morning, he left his room and went on his way through the halls. Despite him having frequented many halls in London over the past years, he had never set foot in these before. In fact, his invite to be one of the King's groomsmen was rather unexpected in the first place. He had quickly accepted the invite though, as such an invite is one you simply do not turn down. Besides, he also felt honoured to serve the King during such a special occasion. As he reached the King's room, he stopped and greeted the guard standing at the door. Morning. Has Lord Cullan returned from his personal reflection yet? The guard shook his head, so he entered the room on his own. None of the others had arrived yet, but breakfast had been served. Knowing he wouldn't last the day with such little sleep and no food, he decided to sit down and have something to eat while he waited for the rest to join him.

Cullan nodded, listening to her speak. Even in the middle of the night, she still rose to other's needs. He knew she spoke from the heart - she always did. He was overwhelmed by it. How could he respond to that?

He wanted to hug her, but propriety said otherwise. Voice thick with emotion, he whispered
"thank you. I..." he shook his head. He didn't know what to say to her. Smiling sadly, he looked over to her. "could I...stay th' night? I need ta be back at th' Tower by sunrise, but...I'd like ta think till then."

he heard the rustle of her dress as she stood, and felt her hand as she pat his shoulder, but didn't know if she spoke. Her words were running through his mind.

He glanced back down to his little sheet of sins, and then the book that he used as a desk. He looked around, making sure he was alone. Then, gently, he turned to the second page. There, sewn to the paper, was a scrap of green and blue tartan, interlaced with red. It was the color preferred by men in his family, which went back to when David saved his godfather, King David, when the traitor-King Stephen fought Empress Mathilde. It was a symbol of pride for them...they earned their lands defending the rights of a woman, and causing trouble up the English.

But it wasn't ancient history that made him choke back a sob.

His new wife had been finishing his cloak when the news had arrived. News that changed his life irreparably.

Thirty years later his life was about to change again. Here he was, the night before his wedding, clearing his soul of his sin, still carrying the yoke of guilt from his first one. He should let it go. Twenty-five years was long enough. The King of England should not be weighed down by the lead in his gut that was ancient history.

But he couldn't.

He was afraid. Afraid of letting go of her. Afraid of replacing her. He'd never treated her the way he should have...He was afraid to. Now he was marrying another stubborn red head, and he was just as terrified. What he wouldn't give to be away, right now. Stalking a deer, or catching trout, something other than facing his fear.

He couldn't do it. Through watery eyes, he read his list. Almost every one of them was caused by his temper. Every one of them he could make amends...But how could he apologise to ghosts? The quill in his hand shook as he tried to write their names, but he couldn't bring himself to do it. A growl of pain rumbled in his gut. His guilt was still there. He couldn't lie and tell himself that he was cleared - the pain reminded him.

He sat in the chapel for some time, thinking and meditating. It wasn't until the soft knock from the guard that he realized the time. It was time to bury his feelings, he had to be King.

"An excellent idea,"
Taarna concurred. "Mint would be a wonderful addition. It's not nerves...just a bit of nausea. It will pass."

She leaned over to whisper to the Princess. "Whom do you suppose that man is in the corner? He just stands there, seemingly at the ready...I don't believe I've seen him before...he looks as if he's leering at us a bit!" She raised her eyebrows a bit, but said nothing to him.

Seeing Kazzia nearby, she immediately gravitated toward her friend. They'd promised no giggling for the day, but that didn't mean that they couldn't talk, whisper, and observe. Taarna was so very happy to see Kazzia; she took her by the hand, squeezing it happily and giving Kazzia a smile.

Waving at Lavea and Aleks, she commented to Kaz, "I wonder who that gentleman is over there? The one with the long blonde hair? Obviously he's a musician...and I know I have seen him at...let's see...perhaps the noble dinners, or the embassy ball last fall? But I don't think I ever met him, nor do I recall a name being mentioned. Do you think we should go over and introduce ourselves?"
