(ORP) Royal Parade & Coronation of King Cullan Holifard

Melpomena
Eumelia wrote:
- Having such a Knight task is a much bigger honour than I deserve, Lady Mel. However, I would be more than proud to lead the Knights Templar and march as their standard-bearer. Thank you very much for your trust.

Mel's eyes beamed with satisfaction and pride at Eumelia's acceptance. She will make an excellent Knight, perhaps even a Perceptor in her own right some day, Mel thought knowing Eumelia's work ethic and dedication.

“I'm so happy you accepted this task, Lady Eumelia. Now, before I let you run off and take your place at the head of Templar delegation, I would like you to take this“, Mel said and went to her horse to retrieve an item from a leather satchel tied to Morana. Inside was the Templar flag that Eumelia will bear. Retrieving it, she returned to the girl.

“Lady Eumelia, please take this standard and bear it proudly“, Mel said handing the flag to Eumelia. “The colours and the emblem might seem modest, giving the flag survived the long journey from Croatia, but the honour of bearing our colours is far great. We light the way“, Mel finished with their moto and smiled at Eumelia.

Anneke
The streets were thronged with people. Anneke was already late and now she was starting to get sticky with worry that she wouldn't reach Westminster Abbey in time for the ceremony if she couldn't get through these crowds. Her carriage kept stopping and then jerking forward a few yards before being stopped again. "I knew that I should have found lodgings actually in London last night, rather than stop in that inn on the way," she muttered to herself as she craned her next out of the window. The carriage edged forward a little way, but then stopped. Sitting there, she thought about just turning round and going home; after all, nobody would miss her, especially if she wasn't actually there to start with. But she'd come all the way from Liverpool, and it seemed a pity to miss the event. Besides which, it would probably be just as difficult to turn round as it was to go on. Drumming her fingers on the sill, she sat and listened to distant music and cheers, and wondered what she was missing and whether she'd ever get to the Abbey in time.

As it happened, she did, because a few minutes later the street cleared a bit - enough so that the carriage was able to move again. It finally stopped in a little street off the main thoroughfare, so she climbed down and made her way towards the front of the Abbey to wait for the procession.

As the parade began, Catriona neatly stepped along. It was all a rather marvellous spectacle and she almost wished she was standing in the crowds that lined the street to watch it all pass. It had only been her curmudgeonly tendencies that had kept her away in the past and she regretted that sorely. A natural smile of delight beamed across her face, for who could resist the swell of joy and happiness that came when so many were present in celebration. "Have ye been to one of these events before? Is it always like this?" she asked the other clergy that she paced alongside, her excitement and wonder evident in her lilting tone.

Amethise
The jolly Mercian dragon rode proudly on his wagon as the wheels trundled noisily over the cobbles; beneath him, trimming the four sides of the vehicle, brightly coloured County banners fluttered gaily in the breeze. Amethise walked alongside, resting one hand lightly against the wagon; it helped her keep pace with its movement along the route, as well as being able to keep a watchful eye on the dragon. With her free hand, she lifted the hem of her skirt slightly off the ground, so that it didn't gather too much road dust (she should have thought of that when dressing for this event, but too late now… and as long as she didn't walk over anything worse than dust, it would be all right…).

At one point, she thought there was a rain shower up ahead, but it was the wrong colour, and… oh. The Sussex dragon was spraying ale from its mouth! Now, that was a clever effect!

In the end, both their wagon driver and a burly young fellow who had assisted with the heavy lifting had opted to stay on for the parade, one to guide the wagon and horses through the streets, while the other acted as 'handler' for the dragon; he was doing a good job of it too, holding on to the leash around the beast's neck and tweaking it every so often, causing the head to nod slowly up and down and the wings to move. The swathes of lurid green fabric that formed the wings rippled and made a swishing sound whenever this happened… then the fellow would grin from ear to ear and relax the leash, only to tweak it again a few moments later. Watching his performance, Amethise chuckled; clearly he was enjoying himself -- in fact, both of the men seemed happy to be part of the parade. She wondered idly whether her casual hint of unlimited free ale later had anything to do with their buoyant mood… then quickly chided herself for being cynical. They were simply happy to be here, as well they might be, on such a grand occasion!

She peered across to the other side of the wagon, to see how Tahsa was faring.

Corsaira
Saira saw Aleks waving and waved back. While they were mustering, it seemed that people were relaxed and greeting friends, but then there was a sense of purpose, the sounds of music and trumpets, and Saira realised that it was time to set sail... in a manner of speaking.

She heard Aggnes talking about the carriage, and Kazzia's suggestion that Saira climb in to help - but as Amerys had asked for assistance from grooms and footmen and the weather was fine, Saira had other ideas. "Well I don't mind riding up top as I haven't skirts on. I'll ride up with the driver to give ye all room for yer gowns in there."

Once all was ready, Saira hopped up onto the coach seat as if it were the rigging of a ship, and smiled. The late spring air was fresh, and it was good to be on the deck in such weather. You got a good view of the throng from the top of the carriage also - there were so many people and so much chatter it was hard to concentrate, and she rather wanted a little time to herself.

Once the ceremony started, all eyes would be on King and Princess... and Bishop. She murmurs a quick prayer to Jah - she knows Aleks very well and knows he will be calm, not anxious, about the role he has to play, but that said, he does sometimes have a tendency to clumsiness. Endearing to her usually, but perhaps not today. She had taken up his vestments a few inches since the last time, so hopefully if his various priestly garments could be kept under control he'd be fine.

As the parade set off towards Westminster Abbey, Saira allowed herself the leisure of looking at the parade; what she could see of it anyway. There were musicians, singers and bards and other performers, and amazingly for English April the weather was kind enough to permit it.

She spied her sister Elsinore, paraded with the Sussex Army. She had a jerkin on that looked like a hand-me-down, but a decent-looking sword and shield. Saira beamed with pride. Everyone seemed determined to be the best.... whatever they were, that they could be.

She peered around to see if Westmorland's dragon had arrived. She'd not be able to parade with it as she was maid of honour, of course, but she'd made a few suggestions on its design, and was keen to see the finished beast.

Michael eventually arrived in London, quite tired from the journey.

As he looked down the street he sighed to himself, having made it just in time for the parade. He stood off to the side to observe the dragons, especially keeping an eye for the Mercian Dragon.

Breena
Bree made her way through the crowds, slowly following the parade as she made her way to Westminster Abbey. The sights of London were quite grand. Along the way she purchased a pasty, not having eaten since she left Devon, and munched on it as she walked.

On her way she saw a familiar face in the crowd and approached him. Michael! How nice it is to see you! You look quite dashing. Are you attending the coronation? I'm just making my way toward the Abbey.

Her eyes were everywhere taking everything in and to everyone in the carriage and yet no one in particular she spoke. Have you ever seen so many people at one place before in your life? She had hoped she would be able to catch site of her husband and family along the route but now wondered just how with so many people in attendance.

"Not so many happy people, no," Aggnes responded. "This many people, yes, when we had ten CA armies occupying Liverpool, but they weren't all that happy. There may have been this many at the last coronation, I'm not sure, but I don't think so. No dragons to attract them then."

A fanfare was heard from ahead, and she listened appreciatively. "I was afraid we were going to miss the music, with that being up the front, but those trumpeters are around the Sussex dragon, I think. Maybe a knight is about to challenge it?"

She half-stood, holding on to one of the curved supports of the carriage canopy, then pulled herself fully upright. "Not too bad. No harder staying on your feet than at the helm of a ship, better view for me, and of me. Right, what's that dragon doing? oh!"

There were screams from the crowd. The head of the huge Sussex monster had turned to one side, clearly visible to those behind it in the procession, and a stream of golden liquid was spraying from its mouth. "I hope that's beer...."

Eumelia took the standard feelingly, bowing again slightly towards her.

- I will bear it proudly, Lady Mel, I promise. Let our flag shine and wave glouriously in the wind of our beloved Country, proclaiming the valour of the Sacred Order of the Templars. We light the way.

Finishing her words with the same moto, Eumelia took leave of her superior, Admiral Lyres , Princess Patan and the others, and grabbing the flagpole firmly she moved to find her place at the head of Templar delegation.

Kazzia couldn't help but smile as Saira climbed up with the driver, she wished she's been able to do the same, oh the things you could see from a higher height. She checked to ensure all the ladies boarded the coach in some way or another, then took the footman's hand and stepped in herself, tucking her skirts about. There are people everywhere! I've never been in the midst of it. I've stood to the side cheering and clapping my sister and brother, but I have never stood on this part of it. She said to Jessa Jane with a grin. She laughed happily when the Princes stood, she heard Aggnes mutter she hoped that was beer and laugh heartily. The people were cheering and Kaz clapped with glee, spotting small red, yellow, and orange taffies in children's hands and men darting out to grab ones laying about. They were apparently doing well! Yes, ma'am, that's ale! They worked long hours to work that one out! What fun it would be to be up where she is pulling the levers, how many lasses can say they saw the coronation parade from inside a dragons' mouth? She laughed.

Baronet of Hastings
Taliesin1017
Tali started to move with the dragon float, pleased at the way the rose petals came from the mouth, and at the vast wings that gave it the impression of flying. And the whole thing was nature oriented and definitely appealed to his own tastes, with the small birds and butterflies attached to look like they were flying around it and the flowers and ivy draped over the dragon.

As they started walking, happy that the cart and dragon wasn't too heavy to help pull with the rope, he grinned when he saw Breena waving, and he waved back, before moving fingers to his lute and starting to play the dragon song he'd picked.

A dragon has come to our village today.
We've asked him to leave, but he won't go away.
Now he's talked to our king and they worked out a deal.
No homes will he burn and no crops will he steal.

Now there is but one catch, we dislike it a bunch.
Twice a year he invites him a virgin to lunch.
Well, we've no other choice, so the deal we'll respect.
But we can't help but wonder and pause to reflect.

    (Chorus)
Do virgins taste better than those who are not?
Are they salty, or sweeter, more juicy or what?
Do you savor them slowly? Gulp them down on the spot?
Do virgins taste better than those who are not?

Now we'd like to be shed you, and many have tried.
But no one can get through your thick scaly hide.
We hope that some day, some brave knight will come by.
'Cause we can't wait around 'til you're too fat to fly.

Now you have such good taste in your women for sure,
They always are pretty, they always are pure.
But your notion of dining, it makes us all flinch,
For your favorite entree is barbecued wench.

Now we've found a solution, it works out so neat,
If you insist on nothing but virgins to eat.
No more will our number ever grow small,
We'll simply make sure there's no virgins at all!

With a slight blush and a giggle, Tali continued to sing, his fingers easily drawing the music from his lute. Now he told the story from the side of the dragon, his sweet tenor carrying easily over the crowd, being further from the other musicians in the parade.

Now, I am a dragon. Please listen to me.
For I'm misunderstood to a dreadful degree.
This ecology needs my and I know my place.
But I'm fighting extinction with all of my race.

Well, I came to this village to better my health
Which is ever so poor, despite all my wealth.
But I get no assistance and no sympathy,
Just impertinent questioning shouted at me.

    (Chorus)
Yes, virgins taste better than those who are not.
But my favorite snack mixed with peril is fraught.
For my teeth will decay and my trim go to pot.
Yes, virgins taste better than those who are not.

Well, I'm really quite kind almost all through the year.
Vegetarian ways are now mine out of fear.
But a birthday needs sweets as I'm sure you'll agree.
And barbecued wench tastes like candy to me

As it happens our interests are almost the same.
You see I'm really quite skillful at managing game.
If I ate just your men, would your excess decline?
Of course not, the rest would just make better time.

Now, the number of babies a woman can bare
Has limits. That's why my pruning's done there.
And an orphan's a sad sight and so when I much.
I'm careful to eat only virgins for lunch

The bard grinned out at the crowd as the song finished, but his fingers didn't let up, shifting easily back into the start of the song, playing a few bars before starting the song up again, with the full intention of keeping it going until the parade was over.

Taarna
'Twas a bit cramped for space, what with all of the attendants to the Princess, but with Kazzia's idea for entering the coach, things had worked out very, very well. And an interesting coach it was, indeed, with seating that seemed to be custom-made expressly for this occasion and specifically for a large amount of passengers. Everyone settled in, with Princess Aggnes in the middle, and the ladies all fussed over her, straightening her beautiful gold dress so that it wouldn't wrinkle, making sure that every hair was in place, and assuring that she had a handkerchief available, should the need arise for one.

The horses jerked to a start, and they all let out a little gasp. Taarna breathed in a deep breath, then let it out, looking at everyone in the carriage with her. Some were smiling, some were looking around curiously. Well, she supposed that they were all most likely as nervous as she was. This was a coronation, and a wedding, after all!

Catching Princess Aggnes' eye, she gave her a big smile. She then followed Aggnes' gaze to see the dragon floats up ahead in the parade. They were so big! This was like nothing she had ever seen before. Taarna couldn't help but lean up from her seat, and peer out the window of the carriage at the magnificent dragons as they moved in front of the rest of the people who were participating in the parade. Amazing...all these armies, gathered together...and she could hear the strains of some harp music playing as well. She knew that her group was walking alongside the carriage, ready to sing the bride up to her future husband, but that would be at the end of the parade.

In the meantime, it was time to look around, and behold the wonder of everything from this new perspective!

She held onto Kazzia's hand. "Isn't this marvelous?" she whispered. "It's like a fairytale!"

Looking out into the huge crowd of people, she recognized quite a few people that she knew. She was looking for Steei, but she hadn't seen him yet. As the carriage moved along and turned the corner, they saw an even better view of the Dragons. It really was amazing that anyone could build such a thing!

Looking back out into the crowd, she saw people waving at the carriage. Some she recognized vaguely, but most not at all. Still, what would it hurt to wave back? Just at that moment, Princess Aggnes stood and how she managed not to fall was beyond Taarna's comprehension. She mentioned something about the dragon ahead, and, sure enough, the crowd seemed to be on the receiving end of a shower of gold from the dragon's mouth. At least it didn't appear to be fire, and as the Princess said, she hoped it was, indeed, beer. Well, there was some refreshment for those who were thirsty...and hopefully those who weren't could get out of the way quickly before they got wet!

Kazzia smiled as Taarna squeezed her hand, Aye, it's magical. I think we're supposed to be waving ladies. She looked to the Princess for confirmation. The dragons were massive, with the Knights all around, the royal guards, the carriages, the minstrels, the armies, navies, councils, and the crowds gathered. The smells of fresh pies, sweets, and ale covered the usual scents of the city, and if she wasn't mistaken she smelled rose in the mix. Waved as she saw some of her staff waving the family flag in the wind. Her eyes teared up when she looked down and saw Gwyn had brought Belle to see her in the carriage with the Queen to be and all the pretty ladies. Her daughter had been so sick she'd feared she wouldn't be able to come, and the poor child had wanted nothing more. She tugged Taarna's hand and pointed ahead and to the front sitting high on Seth's shoulders. Look! That's my daughter! In the red and gold dress like mine, black hair, blue eyes, on the really tall man's shoulders, standing near enough to the road. She must've seen her uncle or one of her aunt's she's a shilling and some candy. She leaned out the window a bit and blew a few kisses to her daughter as she neared, Seth was pointing to her, and Belle's eyes grew quite big. Hullo Belle! She called a bit more loudly than was lady like, but they'd deal with if someone disliked it, later. She waved and then pulled herself back in and dabbed her eyes. It was such a pleasant surprise to see her today. She's been sick, she told the ladies, but she wanted to come so badly. Just in time!

"We wave, yes, ladies," Aggnes agreed. "Take turns, though, we've got a long time to keep waving."
She peered out in the direction Kazzia indicated. "Your daughter? Yes, I see her. Hello, Belle!" She waved to the child, keeping one hand on the canopy struts for support, and smiled back at Kazzia. "You know, some people would say you are riding with a dragon. Take a look at the arms Cullan did for this wedding, and think about the symbolism he used."

Vigfast
Kissed by a dragon.

As a foreigner had Vigfast hard to get together symbolism of this parade of lavish color and odd things. What was the symbolism of all the dragons here? He was just about to ask a gentleman he said hello to, at a tavern yesterday. Think his name was Michael ..
When a young messenger came with a parchment seal fitted with three crowns. Thought to commotion in the street, he stopped to read, caught and a little surprised by the contents, he forgot for a moment the outside world. He noticed during a key second that suddenly he was left alone on the street when everyone went aside. Amazed, he looked up, face to face with a dragon ... quickly followed by a flood of beer.
Dripping with beer he smiled ... well that letter was worth cheering for. Skål ! he shouted after the dragon who was already on her way away... He licked his lips not bad not bad at all.
