Amerys
She passed Captain MacLeod on her way out, snapping a salute in passing as she wished him a good morning. Only a few days ago their positions had been reversed, but Amerys was more than glad to see James in the command position now and had every confidence in him.
No time for chitchat though, as both pressed on with the business of the day.
Her wolfhound at her heels, the petite redhead strode directly to the Tower's stables. A few questioning looks were sent her way, but they were used to her and no one interfered. There were grooms aplenty, but for an occasion such as this she'd leave nothing to chance and took as much care with her horse's appearance as she would with her own later. While Restless had his morning grain Amerys methodically curried, combed and brushed the black courser to a glow, then ran an experienced hand down each leg checking for swelling or tenderness before lifting the feet to clean his hooves and check his shoes.
She knew her tack was already polished and ready, but she gave it a quick dusting off with a soft cloth anyway, before leaving.
Outside by the gate she scratched her dog's ears as she looked around. She'd been assigned to escort the Heir, Princess Aggnes, today, but the Lady was not yet in evidence.
As she waited though, a fond and familiar face appeared. "Liam! My but you're up b'fore the birds this morn!" she exclaimed with a grin and the lad chuckled in response. "Aye, cousin, but I knew the big lad here'd need tendin'." He rubbed Fior's head as the wolfhound gave a huge dog-grin of pleasure. "Maeve's back at the Inn wi' wee Branna and Anna," he offered and Amerys nodded. All was well then. Her stepdaughter could join Liam later while the maid, Anna, looked after three year old Branna. Then they could all meet up with Rowan after the ceremonies. At least that's what she hoped... Juggling family and duty wasn't always easy.
Amerys sent the big dog off with Liam and returned to her duty quarters in the Tower. Time to get herself polished up for the day's events.
