(ORP) Royal Parade & Coronation of King Cullan Holifard

They stood as the procession began to lead into the grand Abbey. She had to remember to stop fidgeting with her bodice, so she kept her hand in Aluns and her left hand in a hidden pocket she had made in her gown. The green rock felt cool to her touch as she passed it through her hand, occasionally it would hit the newly acquired ring that sat on her finger.

She was able to look around better in the sea of heads and shoulders to spot a few folks she knew. Breena, who she hadn't seen in a long while was there talking to a fine looking gentleman. She smiled at them, assuming that they were a couple. A little further up was Galrador and Amethise. Oooooo goodness, she said softly. Would that be a new start for them as well? Nothing like a wedding to make everyone appear to be couples she had thought. Letting go of Alun's hand, she gave a small wave to Galrador and Amethise.

continued from here

Alun watched as Tahsa seemed to be fidgeting with something in what seemed to be a concealed pocket within her gown. Feeling reluctant to ask what she was doing he commented on the seemingly lack of love that the newly wedded royal couple seemed to be expressing. Wrapping his arm around Tahsa's slender waist he whispered. I do hope the coronation doesn't take too long. I'm beginning top wish we were back at Catton. I'm sure we could find some entertainment there. he said with a cheeky grin on his face and his tongue in his cheek.

Feeling desperate to know just what she was doing he submitted to his over inquisitive mind and whispered again in her ear. Darling. Please tell me to mind my own business if this question isn't appropriate but, just what is it you have in that, pocket is it? that you can't seem to stop playing with.

"Well there wasn't any last I passed through, but time changes everything" he said turning his attention to the front of the abbey where items of great significance were presented and an oath was taken by the king.
"As for your infatuation with manskirts m'lady Winchendon, I shall do my utmost to pretend I did not hear of it" he said in mock seriousness without facing her, acting as if the most awfully blasphemous words had reached his ears
"Hmm, interesting is one word for it. Keeping one woman entertained for any measure of time is hard enough, several of them at once, and queens no less... I'm not sure whether I should be envious of ambassadors or pity them" he added shortly, as he realized time did not change the coronation protocol. It was every bit as boring as the first time.

Bree nudged Tyg's shoulder with her own at his comment of her infatuation. Now Tyg, I said "some people" not me in particular, although I don't mind them near as much as you do. Some men can just pull off a kilt! Well, not pull off...you know what I mean!

Bree blushed and nudged Tyg's shoulder again, trying to get him to loosen up. You know, we of the fairer sex aren't so bad. At least some of us aren't. Your experience seems to inform you otherwise but truly, some of us are actually kind of nice. She threw a sidelong glance and grin his way as the King and Queen said their oaths.

Khristian finally arrived after several detours. The City was bathed in festivity. It wasn't easy, but he managed to find a spot where he could observe the Grant Event.

The King and Queen had said their oath's, while the whole of The Abbey looked on with eager interest. Would this bring about some change in England or would this be as it has been in the past? To say that the wedding was uneventful would be a lie, with the dragons and the seemingly upset Groom and Bride, though they did their best to try and hide it. Surely this was not a match of love, was it? Love would stand in the way of ruling a country, wouldn't it? She was lost in thought, rolling the green stone around in her hand when Alun had whispered to her in question as to what she was doing.

She was startled a bit that someone had seen her nervous habit. Pulling her hand out of her pocket, she showed Alun the green stone that he had laid on her table at Chrismos time. Our stone, she said in a quiet voice. She smiled up at him. It calms me when Im nervous.

She looked around a bit, to see how much longer they had. Do you think it will be long? We can go home then if you want. They surely would not miss us at the feast after, would they?

Truth be known, she was not one for crowds, a small gathering, yes those were much nicer. She wondered if she was the only one who was uncomfortable here today, she was use to a much quieter way of life it seems.

It was pagentry, and show, and tradition. But...at the same time, it was a Promise, a public display of that promise, for everyone that attended, to see...and she saw that, now that she was here. Now that she, herself, was witnessing the crowning of a King, the beginning of a new rule, she could see that it was, indeed a promise - from the new King, to his subjects, to the land, to Jah - that he would rule well, wisely, and to the benefit of this country.

She watched the ceremony, entranced. There was much symbolism in it, and she doubted that most people, including the church, would understand the pagan roots from which much of the symbolism originated. She was also comforted when she heard the King swear fealty to England. The words were....good. They included everyone. That was good. The King should protect everyone.

Well, at least at her and Steei's wedding they wouldn't have to worry about this part. Not much longer until her own wedding...hopefully her ceremony would be a wee bit longer, though! She smiled and kept watching as the coronation continued.

She took in every thing that happened with curiosity. It was all so interesting how tradition and progress moved together hand in hand. She wondered how the King and Queen felt when they first witnessed a coronation as well if they had, back then, saw this in their future. Was it some thing they thought of, dreamed of? Then she glanced at those around her thinking one day any one of them could as well be Kings or Queens.

She squeezed her husband's hand lovingly, thinking she had every thing she could ever dream or would hopefully when they were ready to carry on the Wallace-Tudor blood line. However she also knew life was filled with the unexpected and she would welcome that as well.

As she focused again on the coronation she heard both the king and queen saying their oaths and knew she must keep her attention as soon she as well as all nobles would have to do their part as well.

Bishop Gawain turns and retrieves from the altar a fine ornamented edition of the Book of Virtues.

"Here is Wisdom. Here is Strength when the weight grows heavy. Here is Solace when the Nameless One besieges. May the Peace of Jah guide your hand and guard your steps, and through you, safeguard England. Amen.”

He then presents it to the King.

He then looks towards Catriona Mackenzie and beckons to her to come forward to say the blessing.

Richy.
Richy had been mostly reserved to himself, silently situated at the end of the Royal Embassy pew in the first row, as he kept a watchful eye of the events unfolding. While he had hoped to see the royal union, he was forced to abstain from the wedding; not because he wasn't happy for the two--he was. Richy knew both Aggnes and Cullan quite well, and, while polar opposites, he believed this unique attraction would be a bond held until their graves...or one of theirs at least. But with his attention needed in the Embassy and the Court of Appeals, he had little time for himself, so, instead, chose to divide his morning between his duties and readying for the coronation.

As the Procession marched along the aisle, he spotted quite a few familiar faces, their collective English pride streaking in all its glory. Despite the controversy surrounding the King-elect, the number of attendants only confirmed the value the English public placed on fealty to King and Country above personal bias and politics. Such integrity embodied true unity.

The Chancellor scanned the pews, noting the whereabouts of their foreign guests. One particular individual, Queen Sheridan, stood out among many, and it was evident that her mere presence, in light of the current political situation in Scotland, attracted many wandering eyes. Chancellor Applus of Glasgow and Chancellor Melanie Bolton of Galloway were also quickly visible from the Tudor pew. If they endured the very traditional and lengthy service, Richy hoped to speak with them later. As the ceremony began, the Chancellor inclined his head towards the focal point of the coronation--the man that was to be crowned King.

Catriona_mackenzie
Catriona stepped forward, a humble figure amongst all the finery and pomp of the coronation, a simple dress worn of the general custom, only her medallion denoting her as a bishop of the Universal Church. She waited, for the King had a response to give to Gawain's presentation of the Book of Virtues. Idly, she wondered what version of the Book of Virtues was being bestowed. She had heard that the reformers had been planning to rewrite it, with possible cuts along with other changes. How far they had got with that she had no idea.

"Do not brood on that," she thought to herself. "This is not the time or place ..."

Instead the young bishop focused on looking at Cullan. She knew he was not a religious man. But she knew he was a good man, good at heart. A sinner, aye, as everyone was to various extents, but not a miserable one. An honest man ... aye, and outspoken too. Far better than smiling hypocrisy. She recalled the way she had railed at him when he told her he was standing for the monarchy, and the letters they had exchanged thereafter. She understood him and he understood her. And she knew why he had stepped up to be King.

Would his body hold together long enough though? He seemed to have aged rapidly in the time she'd known him. He knew his days were numbered, but Jah, dear Jah, she silently prayed, dinnae let that number be less than he hoped.

Suddenly recalling that she was in the sight of many, Catriona pushed her worried gaze away and focused. She only had a few words to say, a simple blessing that would be a mere moment in the ceremony. Yet they would be said with sincerity, a request to Jah made in earnest to help this man with the task ahead, whether he believed in the Almighty or not.

So she waited with patience for the King to respond to Gawain, her eyes resting on Cullan with a straightforward look of honest kindness. Jah understands ye, she thought, he will not strike ye down.

Alun smiled as Tahsa pulled the special stone from her pocket. How he loved this stone, the sight of it was pleasure enough but he just had to hold it. It somehow had slipped his memory that Tahsa had mysteriously become the new owner of this once treasured stone he himself found as a child on Hastings beach.
Oh you've made my day here, let me hold it just for half a minute. he said gently taking it from her hand. He the began to stroke the stone in the same way he always did, letting it rest in the palm of his hand , then rubbing the indentation with his thumb, which he was doing now. Just as Tahsa had said, this released all tension from his body, and in fact made him feel sleepy as it did when he was a child.

Handing it back again as he had said he would he began again. Our stone eh? What is it with this beautiful stone I wonder, and it's still a mystery how you came by it. Alun looked on again at the proceedings. The coronation was now almost complete. The knights of the realm had all delivered their respective swords wishing the new monarch all the virtues needed for his duties as the new king of England.

Alun had seen various faces he knew from around the country, mainly Bristol, and Sussex from where he once lived. The crowd was so dense he couldn't make himself known to them as it would mean parting from his beloved Tahsa and possibly not finding his way back.
He considered what they should do and turning again to Tahsa he said. I suppose we really ought to be representing Mercia seeing as we are County councilors, but there are so many people here I doubt anyone would notice, or even care if we were to slip away quietly my love. And as for getting fed at the forthcoming banquet, well, we could be waiting forever to be served food. There are enough peasants in the local neighbourhood who'd be glad to take a carriage and two passengers back to Catton hall. We could be there by nightfall. What say you my lovely?

He could feel their eyes in him. The bishop was holding the book toward him, expectantly. More words. his words. Clearly. He spoke out the next oath

"Jah an' th' people in their wisdom 'ave shown me th' way, I have faith tha' Jah an' th' people will guide me an' tha' I will serve England well until my last breath, Jah an' th' people 'ave guided me here today an' I have faith they will guide me home, Amen, an' All Men."

In an even voice, as soon as the King had given his response, Cat gave the blessing. She spoke with unhurried pace, her hands held before her chest, palms upwards in supplication. But even speaking at leisure, the words barely filled half a minute. It had been as her representative had promised when asking to give a blessing at the coronation. A simple, short blessing on behalf of the faithful of the Universal Church.

"Almighty Jah, on this day when we remember Saint George of Lydda, the patron saint of England, a new King is crowned.

We beseech thee, our Creator, to bless this man, chosen by the people of England to reign over them.

Help him fulfill with honour, faith and loyalty this important charge, so that he may govern with wisdom, respect and sincere commitment.

In the name of your ever guiding love.

AMEN."

Tahsa smiled and softly said I promise to tell you what I know of the stone as soon as we are at Catton. She hoped this would pique his curiosity as to bring them home faster.

Aye, though the food would be well worth the wait, I am eager to get home. Truth be told, I hate this dress
. she said as she pulled at it a little. I am uncomfortable and really rather have a pair of trousers on, she said softly or a plain dress. A soak in the tub would be lovely with some rosemary and lavender. she added. She wondered if anyone else had fleeting thoughts of home or other things. She wasn't trying to be disrespectful but being here, with all these folks seemed ... a grand spectacle. What say you my lovely? Alun had asked about going home. In her mind she screamed YES! Her words spoken did not show her eager thoughts though as she continued with Alun, so mote it be. she spoke the words firmly yet only enough for him to hear.

King Cullan had spoke just then " I will serve England well until my last breath, Jah an' th' people 'ave guided me here today an' I have faith they will guide me home, Amen, an' All Men." which startled her back to the proceedings ahead of them. She held Alun's hand firmly, hoping he would feel her urgent need to get out of here. It's not that she didn't respect The King or Queen, its just that she was not in her element. A blessing was being said, was this the end of ceremony, she thought inwardly as she shifted in her seat a bit her eyes cast down. The wood was hard and she had thought her backside was getting numb.

Once the prayer was said, pages from the side hurried forward with the Canopy to shield the King and the Bishop from sight, and another came forward to help the King remove the Crimson Robe and shoes.

Cullan
Cullan had closed his eyes, thoroughly prepared to get a nap in while Catriona said her prayer. She was a good lass...He had tried to get her a title...but he knew that nothing Roman took less than three hours to complete.

He was surprised, then, when she announced 'amen'. Was it really that quick? It must have, since the canopy was already around him.

He groaned as he stood, joints gone stiff in the unfamiliar position. He couldn't remember the last time he knelt. Probably to Molly. Darien was merely sent a letter with his oath, as he was indisposed...Slon? Maybe. Didn't think so, though.

Now he was in the throne. As the boys sent helped him out of his coat and shoes, he wondered how many would choose not to kneel to him. The intrigue of Court could be fascinating, at times.

He gave Gawain a playful smirk, wondering what the bishop thought of his changes and wondering, idly, what Jah thought of them.
