(ORP) Royal Parade & Coronation of King Cullan Holifard

Eira
Holding the ampulla

carefully, so that its precious contents did not spilln Eira stepped forward and took her place by Bishop Gawain.

She curtsied, as low as she dared and rose, breathing a silent prayer of relief that she had managed to do so without toppling over.

Speaking clearly, but not over loudly, relying on the superb acoustics of the abbey to spread her words to all corners, she recited the sacred charge.

"This symbolizes the ordination to a sacred office, declaring the King sacred and respected, and holding his position with the approval of Jah himself."

Amerys
More ceremony, more blessings... Amerys shifted slightly in her place as it continued.
The new AWESOME church, Reformed, and finally, Roman. How different were they, really? They all professed Jah, after all... Amerys supposed it would take more patience than she possessed to truly understand that. "Nay matter - He'll need all the blessin' he can get," she thought.
She thought it a shame that the Spinozists had not sent a representative to the King's convocation and wondered at it, then shrugged mentally. Her own faith though, that of the Old Ways, was represented subtly, almost hidden amidst the pageantry, a quiet part of the fabric of the celebration, as in everyday life.

Catriona's voice drew her attention back to the altar and Amerys watched as she administered the final blessing. The two had disagreed on religion more than once, but there was fondness and respect between them. Cat would not take personal pride in this event, she knew - the lass would see this as an honor, but more importantly, a duty of her calling.
The prayer was brief and to the point and Amerys' eyes crinkled with private humor. "Aye, well, Cat's n'er been one t' mince words..."

Sythe
Sythe remained at attention while the ceremony continued. He listened carefully to all the blessings and oaths spoken, and bowed his head in prayer. When all the ceremonial items were presented for the coronation he couldn't help being amazed by the extravagance. He continued to keep watch of the people present while the coronation of King Cullan progressed.

Kivang
Kivang watched when he could. Being a bit short for his age, and amongst adults, he had much difficulty actually being able to see unless someone shifted a bit. But he could hear. As the voices spoke, he listened. As they prayed, he prayed.

He caught himself drifting once, dreaming. He dreamed of peace. Of sailing the seas. Of doing the works that needed doing for the King, or when he was older, possibly a Queen. "Years to go," his aunt Mary would tell him. "Don't try to grow up too quickly."

Kivang sighed and paid attention to the ceremony once again.

Tahsa wrote:

Tahsa smiled and softly said I promise to tell you what I know of the stone as soon as we are at Catton. She hoped this would pique his curiosity as to bring them home faster.

Aye, though the food would be well worth the wait, I am eager to get home. Truth be told, I hate this dress
. she said as she pulled at it a little. I am uncomfortable and really rather have a pair of trousers on, she said softly or a plain dress. A soak in the tub would be lovely with some rosemary and lavender. she added. She wondered if anyone else had fleeting thoughts of home or other things. She wasn't trying to be disrespectful but being here, with all these folks seemed ... a grand spectacle. What say you my lovely? Alun had asked about going home. In her mind she screamed YES! Her words spoken did not show her eager thoughts though as she continued with Alun, so mote it be. she spoke the words firmly yet only enough for him to hear.

Thats settled then, let us away my lovely Then taking her arm and placing it tightly into the crook of his own they slowly slipped through the huge crowd of people and made their way outside.
It was somewhat of a relief when they eventually got outside and into daylight, and better still, fresh air.

Not wasting any more time, Alun stopped the first likely man they chanced upon and asked him if he could direct him to the nearest carriage owner who could take them back to Catton Hall. How many do you want? The man answered cheekily saying that there were more available carriages today than most days, asking him if he knew that there was a coronation taking place today and the city was almost at a standstill.

Alun didn't rise to the insolence of the man, but instead took his directions for the nearest coach owner which was no more than a half mile from where they were standing. It wasn't long before they had agreed a price which was a fraction of what Alun had paid to come down to London, and it wasn't long before they were finally on their way back.

Amethise
Amethise listened attentively as the service proceeded, watching closely as the hallowed objects were brought forward in turn and presented to the new monarch. Perhaps it was inevitable that her thoughts strayed briefly to previous coronations; a faint smile curved the corners of her lips as she considered how the basic structure of each ceremony was, by long-established tradition, the same, yet each occasion was also unique. Not for the first time, she reflected that it was, indeed, a privilege to witness such a momentous event.

Applus beheld the ceremony with great interest. He had heard rumors of the way of the English and he noted that none of them were exaggerated. The large amount of ceremony, traditions and religious involvement were staggering to him. Never before had Applus seen such a display of unity between the State and the Church, what ever path that Church walked. He hoped that he wasn't the only Scot who noticed this and he slightly turned his head to look at lady Melanie. Is she enjoying this coronation? Is she just as impressed as him? Applus looked back towards the new King of England. Applus most certainly liked the symbolism behind the items that the King received, as Applus always had a thing for symbols. They were important, not only to convey a message or a task, but also to serve as a reminder of something, a promise or a purpose.

She glanced at Applus turning to her and then getting his attention back to the ceremony, he looked impressed. She approached him enough so that she could whisper and he could listen.

Enjoying the ceremony Your Excellency? This is not the first English Coronation I attend and not even the first English party. In the last months I attended a Garden party, the Winter Ball, King Darien's coronation with feast included and now this one. Having friends between the English lets me attend these events.

She smiled at him.

This is wonderful and you haven't seen the party yet. I hope we have a good coronation too since we have many English visitors, we can't stay behind this.

She giggled.
Gawain59
Nodding, Bishop Gawain took the Eagle Ampulla from Eira.

Thanking Eira, he then turned and entered the area covered by the canopy and approached the King.

The sweet scent of balsam wafted through the air as he poured the blessed chrism oil into the spoon. He dipped his thumb into the oil into the spoon and anointed the King's hands, inner elbows, chest, each shoulder and head in the manner of a cross.

He placed the ampulla and spoon on the altar and then raising his voice sufficiently to be heard through the canopy, he addressed all gathered in the Abbey:

"All here are invited to join with us in a moment of prayer."

He then turned to place his hands upon on the King's head, then began praying:

"Almighty, Eternal One, Source of All Things,
Bless and sanctify thy chosen one, Cullan, who is now anointed with this oil.

By Divine Action strengthen him. Confirm and establish him with princely spirit, of wisdom and government, of counsel and knowledge, of godliness and true friendship, now and forever."

He then lifted his hands, saying, "Amen."

He then left the canopy to return to his previous position on the altar, so that the King could prepare himself again and the canopy could then be removed.

Eira
Eira bowed her head respectfully as Bishop Gawain accepted the ampulla. She stepped back and went to stand behind the Princess of Wales. Her part in the ceremony was over, and had passed without mishap, Thank Jah.

Bowing her head in prayer as the Bishop invited all to pray, she couldn't help peeping through lowered lashes out at the congregation, to see who might be there.

Cullan
Do virgins taste better than those who are not?
Are they salty, or sweeter, more juicy or what?
Do you savor them slowly? Gulp them down on the spot?
Do virgins taste better than those who are not?

Cullan sang softly under his breath. The damned song was stuck I'm his head. He looked up to Eira, then to Gawain, wondering what was going on. He had been told that there was oil involved. He hoped it included one of the hunky dragon guards...

Then the bishop started saying things, and dribbling oil all over him. There were dine words about Jah. He held his breath, wondering if he'd feel something....

Nothing. Just words, and the canopy again. The lads bright forward more clothes. Lavea had explained the significance to him...supertunica for kingship. Columbium to show you are bare before Jah.

He stopped.

Was he going to have to strip? Go bare before the country? Who the bloody hell wanted to see an old man in a white dress? He thought he was going to get some oiled up well muscled young men...not an oily old cripple...

Thankfully, though, the attendants just slipped the heavy linen over his clothes. He really didn't need to blind everyone. It was bad enough he had to do his newlywed duties tonight...He shuddered at the thought as they took the canopy away.

Angel humbly bowed her head and closed her eyes as Bishop Gawain asked for all in attendance to join him in a moment of prayer.

" Amen" she said quietly after the prayer had been offered.

Taarna
There were more items presented, more things brought up to the king, more prayers said. His Majesty was even annointed with oil. Taarna found that the ceremony was starting to become rather lengthy, and began to appreciate having a place to sit. She was warm, her stomach was grumbling and upset, and she couldn't even imagine being one of the many people at the back of the abbey, pressed close, who were standing through the entire parade and ceremony.

Her attention started to wander a bit. She looked around and saw that others, too, were starting to look around, converse softly amongst themselves, or even, in some cases, fall asleep! She smiled to herself. She saw several people that she recognised; quite a few friends, and some dignitaries from the Embassy Ball that she had seen but not met. She recognised them but didn't know their names. Two of the women in particular she remembered, as they had been very active and seemed to be kind; they were also very beautiful. Ah! And yes, there was Ambassador Applus, whom she had seen outside, during the parade. He seemed well-settled, seated next to someone. She was glad he did not lack for company, as he was very nice and she felt a bit of..well...kinship with him. She hoped to speak to him again before this event was ended.

Popping a piece of candied ginger into her mouth, she savored the sweet tasted and waited for it to settle her stomach. She looked at the king and thought she saw him mouthing the words to a very inappropriate song, but perhaps that was just her imagination.
