(ORP) Royal Parade & Coronation of King Cullan Holifard

Lark
She shifted her feet when Gawain called for prayer, and her eyes flicked to the swords on the altar. She wasn't particularly religeous. If she followed anyone, it was one of Thor's sons, and that particular faith was more interested in everyday displays of skill (particularly weapon skills) than in fine words. She didn't think either the Royal Guard or the Church would take it kindly if she responded with a prayer in the form of a quick sword drill.

She shifted the sceptre from one hand to the other, rolled her aching shoulder, and growled under her breath, "Oh, give me patience, and hurry up about it. This is taking forever..."

Lavea
Lav kept her face calm and smiling, she at least could maintain her poise for an hour, so showed no sign she was surprised so many soldiers, lords and ladies seemed to lack the discipline. Perhaps they did not often sit and listen for an hour.

She turned her attention to Jasmine who was next to come forward.

Edwardus
He watched as Lady Eira stepped forward with what looked like a bronze or gold eagle shaped statue and serving spoon. Considering that it was brought for the coronation of a King, it would most probably made of gold. He was curious but did not question for fear of bothering the rest of the congregation. He would need to question later, after the coronation had ended. The eagle and spoon were accepted by the Bishop who continued to pour some sort of liquid from the eagle onto the spoon.

Aaah. I see. An ampulla! A vessel to keep liquid in. He had thought to himself. However, I still must question what it contained.

Once the Bishop had completed the ritual, he had invited for everyone to join in Prayer. He was not a very religious man, but he had been taught to respect all religions thus he bowed his head in silence.

Jasmine.
Jasmine watched as the ceremony started with a soft smile. The King was offered the cloth of Gold. She listened attentively to Mother Catriona as she read from the book of Virtues then to the Chaplain. She bowed her head in prayer then whispered "Amen"

Jasmine's mind drifted back to the night before and her conversation with the King She smiled as her eyes met those of the crowned King, a man at times felt like a father and a friend to her. She felt a bit nervous now that she needed to proceed. She took a deep breath and started approaching the King holding a Royal cushion with the gold spurs placed carefully on it. She was proud of him and deeply honored to be presenting to those spurs to a man who did his best to understand the path and what Knighthood meant. A man who willingly stood his Knight Vigil to be ready for that moment when it arrived.

Jasmine cleared her voice as she presented the gold spurs which were a symbol of chivalry. She spoke clearly to the King and everyone around of their significance, “Your Majesty, these spurs signify Knighthood and Chivalry… Wear them as a reminder of what they stand for and you should abide to. They symbolize the Virtues a Knight and a King should have and lead by. If you follow these Virtues you will be the Knight your people deserve and the great King you are destined to be.

To succeed in this you should have Prowess and Valor; Seek excellence in all endeavors expected of a good king, martial and otherwise, seek strength to be used in the service of justice, rather than in personal aggrandizement.

Seek always the path of 'right', unencumbered by bias or personal interest. Recognize that the sword of justice can be a terrible thing, so it must be tempered by humanity and mercy. If the 'right' you see rings agrees with others, and you seek it out without bending to the temptation for expediency, then you will earn renown beyond measure. If you are able to do this then you have Justice and Temperance.

Be known for unwavering commitment to the people and ideals you choose to live by. Loyalty is one of the Virtues you should never forget. There are many places where compromise is expected; loyalty is not amongst them.

A Knight is sworn by oath to Defend his Country and Regent and those who depended upon him but a King is a defender of all even those who swear to defend him. Seek always to defend your country, your family, and those to whom you believe worthy of loyalty.

Have Courage; choose the more difficult path, the personally expensive one. Be prepared to make personal sacrifices in service of the precepts and people you value. At the same time, seek wisdom to see that stupidity and courage walk hand in hand.
Take the side of truth in all matters, rather than seeking the expedient lie. Seek the truth whenever possible, but remember to temper justice with mercy, or the pure truth can bring terrible grief.

Have Faith in your beliefs, for faith roots you and give hope against the despair that failings create.

Do all the above and more with Humility. Value first the contributions of others; do not boast of your own accomplishments, let others do this for you. Tell the deeds of others before your own, according them the renown rightfully earned through virtuous deeds.

Be Generous in so far as your resources allow; largesse used in this way counters gluttony. It also makes the path of mercy easier to discern when a difficult decision of justice is required.

Seek great stature of character by holding to the virtues and duties, realizing that though the ideals cannot be reached, the quality of striving towards them ennobles the spirit, growing the character from dust towards the heavens. Nobility also has the tendency to influence others, offering a compelling example of what can be done in the service of righteousness. You are Nobel among your brothers and others that look up to you.

And lastly, Franchise; Seek to emulate everything I have spoken of as sincerely as possible, not for the reason of personal gain but because it is right. Do not restrict your exploration to a small world, but seek to infuse every aspect of your life with these qualities. Should you succeed in even a tiny measure then you shall be well remembered for your quality and virtue.

Jasmine Knelt in front of the King and fastened the spurs then got back up to her feet. She took the cushion and took few steps backward after offering an elegant curtsy to the King. She joined the members of the Sussex Navy and Army and those of the Knights of Saint George once again and continued to watch the ceremony advance beautifully.

Breena
Bree watched the ceremony with interest, noting all the swords and cloths and the ampulla. Bowing her head as Bishop Gawain said a prayer, she murmured Amen, then raised her head to watch as the ceremonial spurs were fastened.

Chris_braveheart
After Jasmine presented the King with the gold spurs, Prince Chris approached the King. Bowing respectfully, Chris presented the King with the Sovereign's Orb...

...and placed it in his right hand to hold. Chris then speaks so all may hear the words,

This Orb symbolizes both the State and Church of England under the protection and domain of the royal crown.

Chris smiles at Cullan, bows again respectfully, and withdraws facing the King back to his seat....

Bree nudged Tyg's shoulder with her own at his comment of her infatuation. Now Tyg, I said "some people" not me in particular, although I don't mind them near as much as you do. Some men can just pull off a kilt! Well, not pull off...you know what I mean!

Bree blushed and nudged Tyg's shoulder again, trying to get him to loosen up. You know, we of the fairer sex aren't so bad. At least some of us aren't. Your experience seems to inform you otherwise but truly, some of us are actually kind of nice. She threw a sidelong glance and grin his way as the King and Queen said their oaths.

The procession continued, and yet even more big words were spoken. Having attended a coronation before it was hard to keep focused, for he knew these mattered little if the monarch in question did not rise up to their meaning in the months to come, and the company he was in didn't make paying attention any easier.
Raising an inquisitive eyebrow he spoke grinning "Uh huh.. by now I am not so sure I want to know what you mean. Just because you can wear a giant pink hat, decorated with peacock feathers and purple beads, it doesn't mean you should" he turned his attention back to the front of the abbey before being prodded again "Kind of nice ? That doesn't sound too convincing... Besides I didn't say women are bad, far from it. Quite the contrary we should thank the gods for your existence, for life would be rather bland without you all. But you must admit you are... complicated.." he concluded, he himself surprised at the depth of his reasoning

Cordelia
Cordelia steps forward, bearing the ring upon a small cushion. It was a sapphire, surmounted by red rubies in the form of a cross, and surrounded by diamonds. To Cullan, she says, "This ring symbolizes the Sovereign's 'marriage' to the nation, and the duties to which the Sovereign is responsible to the nation and her citizens. It is traditionally placed on the fourth finger of your left hand."

She unties the ribbon holding the ring in place and takes his hand, slipping the ring on to rest next to his newly acquired wedding ring. She then curtsies and backs away before turning to go sit with her children in the family viewing area.

Lark
Her gaze flicked across to meet Aggnes' gaze as she walked forward, holding the Sceptre of the Cross high enough to catch the light streaming through the Abbey windows. The corner of her mouth twitched upwards in something between warning and reassurance. Hopefully, the queen was not going to fall off her chair in surprise....or shock.

She lowered the sceptre to rest across both palms as she reached Cullan, and said clearly, letting the acoustics carry her words, "Your Majesty." The look in her eyes suggested he'd better make the most of that address, because it was the only time he was ever likely to hear it from her. "I present to you England's Sceptre with the Cross. This Sceptre symbolizes the temporal authority of the Monarch under the Cross. Please hold it with your right hand and allow the meaning behind this symbol of the Sceptre to always guide you so long as you are England's Monarch."

She held it out, looked at the orb already in his right hand, and grimaced as she added much more quietly, "It's heavier than it looks, like responsibility. Don't drop it." Someone either hadn't thought this through, or expected kings to have two right hands.

More and more fascinating objects were being presented to the King. Bree craned her neck a bit, figuring that standing up in the pew to get a better look just wouldn't be proper. She took a moment to wonder where in heaven Tyg had seen a giant pink hat decorated with peacock feathers and purple beads. Such as that would be a sight to behold! Good grief, I hope I'm never seen in a monstrosity of a hat unless it's for charity or some other good cause, she whispered.

Bree thought that admitting women were complicated was like admitting the sky was blue. It just was. You know, men aren't so easy to figure out, either. First they want you, then they don't when someone they consider better catches their fancy. I suppose one just hopes for the best in finding their match.

Following Lark, Rain approaches with the Sceptre of the Dove.

"Your Majesty, this is the Sceptre with the Dove. It symbolizes the spiritual authority of the Monarch under the Cross. When you hold this in your left hand, you can be crowned King." She places it firmly in his left hand, then curtsies before finding a seat.

Kalens
Kalens approached, the crown held gingerly in his hands. He went to one knee and held the Crown aloft to present it to the King raising his head to look at Cullan. Kalens' face practically beamed with pride having been chosen to carry the last item of regalia.. the most important.. St Edward’s Crown.

Kalens then stood and turned to Bishop Gawain.
He gives St Edward’s Crown to Gawain, nods and turns to the side out of the view of others.. and takes to a knee.

Bishop Gawain watched as the spurs, orb, ring and sceptres were presented to the King.

As Kalens approached to present the St Edwards Crown, he received the Crown reverently from him.

He then approached the King.

"Almighty Jah, we ask for you to bless this Crown for it represents the power of this Kingdom and its trust in Cullan, its king, to lead them. May the kingdom be united under the Crown and may His Majesty long reign over us; give him wisdom, courage and temperance. Watch over us and guide him in his actions. Amen."

Placing it gently upon King Cullan's head, Gawain spoke again. This part of the ceremony was shrouded in tradition; his words echoed those used in this Abbey in many coronations over time.

"I appoint you King of your people and adjure you to guard the sacred trust given to you by Jah. May His wisdom, strength and mercy be upon you. May these be hallmarks of your rule. Thus are you blessed and your reign also blessed."

"Arise, our King, Cullan Holifard the First, and greet your people!

He turned towards the congregation and proclaimed:

"Long live the King! Long live King Cullan!"

He then stepped aside so that King Cullan could take his first steps as the newly crowned Monarch.
