(ORP) Royal Parade & Coronation of King Cullan Holifard

Cullan
Cullan turned to the page, taking the sword he offered. He gripped it by the hilt, holding it upright before him. "Th' Sword 'a the Heir,"he announced to the audience. He turned his wrists forward, so that the weapon was horizontal in front of him, over his wife's head "as a symbol of England's military strength, an' 'er enduring passion an' fierce desire to protect those who live within our land." He chuckled softly, whispering to her. "A test 'a trust, eh? Th' pagans did want a sacrifice..." he turned to the side, handing off the sword to the page that had brought it.

With both hands he gently lifted the coronet from her head. He wondered about it's weight, though he'd never handled the Marquis coronet. Had she the time to replace the jewels with glass yet? He'd have to ask later. The crown of the Prince of Wales was placed in his hands. This, again, he held out to the crowd.
"Secondly, th' Coronet. A symbol 'a royalty an' 'a majesty, an' a reminder tha' England is both a majestic an' a noble land, filled wi' beauty and with elegance." Yes. England was. Only England. He smirked, then continued. "This day, Princess Aggnes, ye'll go forth frae this place as Heir ta th' Throne 'a England, a member 'a my Royal Family in your own right, an' a future leader 'a England." as he lowered the coronet on her head, he whispered to her. "-if my wife keeps me alive."

She'd noted the removal of a reference to Jah in the proclamation, and wasn't surprised or bothered. But what he was doing with that sword, and the reference to trust... something was wrong there, something she didn't understand.
"She'd have a better chance with a sword in her hand," she whispered back. Better yet with a pen, of course, but it was the symbolism that mattered, and at the moment, she had neither.

Cullan raised an eyebrow at her comment. As he turned to take the ring offered, he muttered. "As if I'd trust ya wi' a weapon in yer hands." then, louder, announced. "Thirdly, th' golden ring, as a symbol 'a th' level 'a yer devotion an' dedication ta England." without asking, she raised her hand. The left, he noticed. He took it, sliding the ring beside the one he'd given for the wedding. He continued with the script he'd memorized "This ya've proved in th' past, and will, I have no doubt, do so again in th' future."

"Fourthly, the golden rod."Still holding her hand, he held his other out. He grasped the staff as the page set it there "A symbol 'a strength an' of authority. Th' authority 'a th' King stems frae th' people of England themselves, an' frae th' Councillors, an' th' Mayors, an' th' nobles 'a our fair land."he laid the treasure in her palm, then closed her fingers around it, continuing "This authority may one day rest on yer shoulders, an' may Jah give ya th' strength an' th' conviction ta use it wisely an' justly." 'or the Nameless One' he thought, though didn't voice. Gawain and the others could probably hear their muttering. No need to give them a coronary.

The pages were off to the side carrying the last bit. He gestured to them to come forward. One on each side they laid the great mantle on her shoulders.
"Fifthly, th' mantle 'a royal purple. Ya've been blessed, Princess Aggnes, wi' all th' riches 'a th' Kingdom of England, wi' th' trust 'a 'er King an' 'er people, an' th' responsibility 'a governance an' security when times seem bleak, and all else seems faded." He smirked. As if Anto breathing down her back, and running off with all her gold wasn't a test of that. "May this remind ya tha' ye'll never have ta fear tha' darkness, fer ya carry wi' ya th' faith an' th' pride 'a England an' 'er people. May Jah bless ya richly as ya carry out yer work." He looked down at her as the lads helped tie the mantle, whispering "An' don't run aff wi' Englands treasures, aye? Trust an' all 'at." He stepped back from her, calling out "Finally as my wife befer Jah an' th' people 'a England, rise an' stand beside me ta be granted th' honors an' symbols fer th' Queen 'a England."

She rose to her feet, her expression blank - not that it could look anything else under the face paint. "The trust of the King and her people" - but, it seemed, she didn't have the trust of the King at all. Odd, though. He trusted her with the power of being Queen, but not with a mere physical weapon, and the call to rise now, to stand at his side, differed from the script, showing her more respect rather than less. She didn't understand him, and that was unnerving. Which might well be the point....

Cullan turned to face her, giving her a playful smirk. "I present ya th' Crown 'a the Consort ta th' elected an' crowned King 'a England." he took the Prince's crown from her head and turned to the page beside them. Handing off the smaller one, he took the larger red crown. "Be strong under it's weight, as ya bear both th' weight 'a th' responsibility ta England, but also tha' 'a yer husband. May ya serve both honorably an' justly." He laid the crown on her head, smiling to her. He shouldn't be too mean, it was her day too. "an' wi' it." he continued as the sceptres were placed in his hands "Th' sceptres 'a th' Consort, reflecting those 'a th' King. They symbolize th' Temporal an' Spiritual authority 'a th' King. In yer hands 'ey represent yer duty ta uphold it in my name, as you bear my name." He first hands her the smaller copy of the Scepter of the Cross for her right hand, and then its companion Scepter of the Dove. Two sceptres, no balls. So much symbolism, so little time. He shuffled a step back to give her room so she could kneel. Thankfully, the whole thing was almost finished.

So he wouldn't trust her with a sword, but he would with two maces? That was something they'd have to discuss, later, it suggested a lack of knowledge of combat that was concerning, if he ever really had to fear an attack. Unless what he'd meant was something different...

Still, time for her to kneel and give her oath, as all the other nobles present would do in turn after her, though from what she remembered, with different wording. She rather hoped he wasn't going to dispense with tradition so far as to try to remain standing for the whole lot.

Down on one knee again, head upright to support the new, heavier crown, a sceptre in either hand, and those hands between his. No harder than infantry drill, or bending and rising with a pitchfork at harvest time, or a pickaxe in the mines.

"I, Aggnes Holifard, now Princess of Wales and Queen of England, do become your liege woman of life and limb and of earthly worship; and faith and truth I will bear unto thee, to live and die against all manner of folk."

Still no mention of obedience.... but a definite promise that anyone trying to hurt him or any other part of her new property would do so over her dead body, whether she was armed with sword, mace, pen, or teeth and nails. She rose again to be presented, looking out at the sea of faces. Mine. Or possibly, she was theirs. English used the same word for relationship or possession, after all.

Lavea
"Long Live the King, Long Live Queen Aggnes!" Lav called.

As the cries of Long Live the King and Queen came to a pause, Lavea stepped forward and said. "All Nobles and all members of the Clergy, as is your honour and duty, I call upon you now to come and give your oaths to your King."

Robin shifted Alex out of his lap when he heard the announcement and passed him off to Adam to hold while he and Llyres went to take their oaths. "Keep an eye on him for a few minutes, please, Adam?" he asked with a smile. Focusing on their youngest again, he added with a brief touch of his finger to the child's nose, "Be good for Adam, Alex. Mamma and I will be back soon."

Looking to both the foreign delegates sitting with them, Robin briefly explained, "Lady Llyres and I will be right back. It's our tradition that when a new monarch is crowned, all nobles, because they hold estates and titles granted by the crown, go up to the new monarch to reaffirm the oaths they took upon being originally granted their titles. Please, excuse us." Reaching his hand out to take his wife's, the Warden helped the Marchioness from her seat so they could go to take their oaths.

Cullan
Cullan turns to the massed crowd, announcing "I present ta ya, Aggnes Holifard, undisputed Heir ta th' Throne of England, an' Queen of England." Smiling, Cullan turned to the throne to begin accepting the oaths from the Lords

and through the power of Roleplay, we skip all that oathy stuff and imagine it's a little bit later. Because oaths take a whole 'nother 50 page thread. Also edited because I'm bad at following scripts.

Looking over to his wife, then to the Lords who had already made thier way out, the King made a sigh. Finally they could feast. Lavea had said something about taking the Royal Barge. He turned to Aggnes, whispering "Ready ta go?"

Without a response, he lifted himself onto his feet, accepting his cane from whomever had taken it away.

"Ready when you are, as any dutiful wife should be." She was glad he'd had the sense to sit for all the oaths, and just hoped his leg hadn't stiffened up in the meantime. She stood, and took his arm, ready to be a support if needed - the robes made it very hard for anyone else to see who was supporting who.
"I sent a page to be sure there's fresh tea for you on the barge," she said softly. "It's a calm day - the crew will be rowing a lot, but the boat will be nice and steady underfoot for us passengers."

He swore his oath and smiled at Ame as she stood her guard duty. They'd meet up later in the evening. Now, he hurried out to get to the Royal Barge. The Barge would take King and Queen from Westminster to the Tower. This would likely be his last sail as High Admiral and he'd relish it.

Amethise
Amethise added her voice to the chant of "Long live the Queen! Long live Queen Aggnes!"

Upon hearing the next announcement, she rose from her seat, took a moment to don her peeress robes and coronet, then followed the other nobles as she made her way forward to take her oath before the King.

From his position on the dais, Bishop Gawain watched as King Cullan crowned Queen Aggnes as the Heir, the Princess of Wales.

"Long Live the Queen! Long Live Queen Aggnes!" he called.

Upon hearing the announcement, he joined the other nobles and took his oath before the King.

He then stepped aside so that next person could come forward.

Welcome Lord Kalens, so important to carry the crown! Nicely done. I hope this is fast, I'm already starving.

She said giggling.
Galrador
After seeying both the King and Queen having received their rightfull titles, Galrador joined in the cheering: Long live the King, long live the Queen!

As he heard the anouncement for the peers to retake their oath, he followed Amethise to the front, waiting on his turn to take the oath. Afterwards making his way back again so other could take their turn as well.
