[ORP] The Crossroads Inn

Charani
Syeira smiled at the newcomer, a beautiful blonde in a pretty dress, and was secretly very envious of her. She looked down at her own rags and sighed inwardly. Then she remembered her manners and introduced herself.

I'm Syeira and new in town. The pleasure is all mine.

She was glad Sir John thought people might be interested in tarot readings and thought about putting up a little sign outside the inn.

Sir John, might I put up a notice at the inn to direct people interested in having their fortune told in here? Or would you rather have me do it somewhere else?

Sir John nodded,
Please feel free to seek those who wish to know their fortune. And yes please feel free to use the tavern, it is and should be the center of the social life of town.

He smiled pleased to have the kind fortune sage in town.

Thank you, Sir John. I'll go and write one right away.

Syeira dug around in the small leather bag that also held her cards and some money and finally found what she had been looking for: an old scrap of parchment and a bit of charcoal. Again she was glad her grandmother had insisted on those horrible writing lessons. Slowly and carefully she wrote her notice and then put it in the front window of the inn, visible to everyone who happened to be passing.

Fyra took the seat offered by John and nodded towards Syeira Welcome to Bridgewater in that case! I hope you will find your stay here most enjoyable. She took a sip from the ale placed in front of her before adding I am not a resident of Bridgewater myself, but I spend more time here than at my actual home town.

She listened quietly as they spoke about tarot reading. Fyra had heard about the practice of fortune telling before but she never had a chance to actually try it. The idea seemed interesting so as soon as Syeira finished placing her notice, she decided to ask Could you do a tarot reading for me? She remembered she carried a few freshly picked fruits in her bag that one of the merchants had sold her. Erm do you take payments in fruits too? she chuckled before placing them on the table.

Syeira hadn't expected a customer so soon when she was still well-supplied with ale. The offer of fruit was tempting, naturally, so she smiled at her new acquaintance.

Of course, Fyra, but let us sit over there, so I have more room for my cards. You are welcome to watch, Sir John, if you wish.

She smiled at Sir John apologetically and sat down at a table next to the window.

(Please continue in the other thread, Fyra.)

I walk in the tavern with an idea to change the name of this tavern and to renovate it a little.

ok I know that this tavern has always been the Crossroads tavern (or at least since i have been here) but I like to know if we should petition the Town Hall to change its name to the Bridgewater Yacht club to let people know that we are a port town after all?

what do you all think of this idea?

as I tern to the barman a buy's a round for those here

I hope they don't change the name; it drew me in despite my shyness from the very first... Khrys thought to herself. She wouldn't speak up herself as she felt overwhelmed most of the time and hardly ever told anyone her opinions.
hope I did this right;I'm not sure of all the tags and colors to use just testing the waters as well as getting this thread going again--unless it has continued elsewhere?

Having been busy in the back, restocking the drinks for the tavern, Robin heard the door open. Lifting his head, he called, "Be right there!" before setting down the keg he was carrying.

Heading out front, the mayor looked around before spotting Khryarsta. Moving to his spot behind the bar, he offered a warm smile. "Hello! Can I get you something to drink?"

Beaming with pride, Khrys answered, "A round for all here today; I am celebrating my becoming a miller. The paperwork just needs to dry; the mill is nearly finished...very soon, I'll be grinding my first sack of flour."
Robinoflocksley
Robin grinned, reaching for a bottle behind the bar. "That certainly does call for a celebration! Though the tavern has been rather quiet lately, so it's just you and me. So the offer of a round is generous, but I know how expensive it can be to build a new workplace, so save your money. This is on me." Pouring a drink, he pushed the glass toward her.

Khrys raises the glass in a solemn salute and toasts, "To the town having lots of young people and they being as happy as I am right now and as generous as thee!"
Robinoflocksley
Pouring a drink for himself, Robin raised his glass in salute to her. "I have no doubt you'll be a fine miller, Khryarsta. And if you ever have any issues, please don't hesitate to come to me. It's my job as mayor to at least try to help make things go smoothly for everyone. But I don't think you'll have too much trouble." Offering another smile, he downed his drink before setting the glass on the bar and pulling rather a large ledger out from behind it.

Opening it to a page somewhere in the middle of the book, the Mayor picked up a quill and jotted her name down next to four others. "Congratulations, Khryarsta. You're the fifth miller in Bridgewater."

Khryarsta
"As you say, but if you decide you could use me at another task such as baking, I am at the mayor's command." So saying, Khrys finishes her drink and prepares to depart, "I'll mill up some flour and if there isn't as much of a market as was once thought, why then, I'll save up more money and switch to baker then use it myself."
Robinoflocksley
Smiling, Robin chuckled slightly and shook his head. "Khryarsta, you be whatever makes you happiest. We have a few of every profession other than weaver and sculptor, which we only have one of, and botanists, which we have none of, but we have enough of all the needed professions that we can and will manage. I'm not going to ask you to change your profession unless it is something that you truly want to do. If it is, then maybe we can discuss some form of loan or something to help with it, but I'm not pressuring anyone to do anything. Merely suggesting the needed professions to those that still have yet to choose one."

Now that December had come, Robin headed to the town hall tavern with a large box, intent on making the tavern look more festive for the holiday season. Once inside the tavern, he pulled out long garlands and boughs of holly, bright, festive looking fabrics, and some of the pinecone ornaments that Khryarsta had suggested at the Advent Countdown.

Hanging some of the garland across the front of the bar, and setting small holly wreaths in the middle of each table, the mayor hummed a tuneless song as he worked, decorating the tavern for the time of year. Fetching a stool, he climbed up on it to hang another garland and some of the ornaments around and over the door.
