[ORP] The Crossroads Inn

Drunken_patron, roleplayed by Pascoe
Ed was shocked to see the lass had a knife on her, and turned to see the bartender coming around with a club. His ale soaked brain was trying to process everything when he heard some bloke with a stick using big words he didn't understand. "Whash za matta? Can't a fella show a lass how boo ... beau ... beautiful she is?" He flashed a toothy leer at the barmaid, who pulled away in revulsion as he let her go in confusion. He looked at the man behind her and sneered "An you ... using big words ... yous a smart feller, ain't ya? I's doan ... don't think yous a tough one."

His drunken stumble forward was stopped by a friend, who hissed "Ed! That's the mayor! Don't be a fool!" placing his hand on his friend's chest as he held him up.

"Wha?" said Ed, squinting at the Mayor "Thas the Mayor? Congrat ... Congrat ... Congrats, Mayor! Yous taken way all teh fun!" he looked at his friend forlornly "Teh fun, Will!" He sagged against his friend as the fight in him dissipated, leaving behind only the sadness that had caused him to get drunk in the first place. "I ... I's just wanted some ... some com ... a lady frend!"

Will held his friend up and looked at Sally, embarrassed "I'm sorry miss. He's really not a bad sort." He looked to Pascoe and Mal, nodding respectfully "Milord Mayor, Mal, sorry to have caused a disturbance. I'll see him home." Will nodded all the way to the door as Ed quietly complained the entire way he didn't want to leave, but finally the two men left, an awkward silence descending over the tavern for a moment before people went back to their drinks.
Mal_
Mal gave a sigh of relief as he watched the two men leave and put away his club onto its holder on his belt.

"Thanks for the help Mayor I really appreciate it'

Then he went over to the barmaid looked at her and said.

"Are you alright Sally."
--Crossroads_barmaid
Sally just stood there for a moment after watching the two men leave before she recovered enough to put away her dagger. By this time Mal was in front of her asking if she was alright.

"I am Mal, it'll just take a few moments to calm the rest of the way down." A minute or so later she walked over to Pascoe gave him a quick kiss on the cheek and said.

Thanks Sir Mayor for your gallentry."

Then she went back to her job serving drinks.
Pascoe
Pascoe let out a breath he hadn't realized he was holding as the man's friend intervened. Nodding to him as he departed, he looked back at Lillian, who was staring at the two men all the way to the door. I really need to hire a cook, if I'm ever allowed to watch her again. he thought to himself before becoming aware of Sally's lips on his cheek. Blushing, he smiled shyly and nodded "Erm, I wouldn't be a very good Mayor if I didn't look out for everyone, right? I'm just glad no one got hurt." Returning to the table, he sat down to eat, awaiting the questions he was sure were about to come his way from his young guest.

Pascoe
It was a couple days later, thanks to the generosity of one of the towns former Mayors and after a brief conference with the patrons of the Crossroads, that Pascoe posted the following announcement on the Tavern Notice Board:

Our Meatballs with Mushroom Gravy is now cheaper! Build muscle for less! Only £17.75!

With the Biscuits having run out, Pascoe placed a familiar item back on the menu to provide for basic needs and updated the Notice Board.

Pascoe
Pascoe had been in the tavern for a while discussing his work habits with Eponine when the new Chief Marshal joined them, looking a bit worse for wear. A few questions later, Pascoe went pale a moment, realizing that the plague had returned to town. He quickly went to update the Tavern's Notice Board, and prepared to visit the Medical College, so that he could communicate the correct information to everyone as soon as possible.

*** Notice! The plague has returned! I will keep the Town Hall tavern stocked with corn for the ill to eat. If you are sick, please attempt to keep your visits to public places such as the market and taverns brief ***

Mal_
After Mayor Pascoe put up the notice of a new outbreak of sickness in town. Mal, Sally, and the rest of the Crossroads staff worked hard cleaning the tavern from top to bottom. With the help of several of the the young local orphans that liked the idea of a hearty free meal and a few mugs of ale in exchange for joining in the effort. The job was finished in short order.

Now Mal was laughing and and having a good time as he did his best to teach Sally and a few of her young friends how to juggle.
--Crossroads_barmaid
Sally giggled as once more she missed one of the small fabric cubes she was attempting to juggle. She was getting better at keeping the three small cubes she was using moving between her hands.

Thing had been going well lately for her and her younger brother Will. The two of them had been on their own since their parents died when the last outbreak of plague had swept through the countryside. They had had to leave the small farm they had called home for all their lives and move to Bridgewater. Money was often tight, but thanks to her barmaid job and friends like mal and his wife they lacked for nothing. Ed had even come in earlier today and appoligized to her and gifted her with the pretty homemade necklace she was wearing today.

As she watched her brother she grinned and said.

"Nicely done Will." As her brother successfully juggles five cubes for several minutes.
Mal_
Mal was pleased with the progress that Sally and her friends that had tried juggling were making. Sally's brother Will was doing the best juggling 5 for several minutes. The others that had tried it looked like they would get the hang of juggling with a little practice. And Mal had plenty of the small fabric cubes for them to borrow. There were some of the young people that hadn't made an attempt at the juggling seemingly content with watching the ones did.

Among the ones that didn't, there was one that Mal knew was fairly new to the group, that Mal noticed who seemed kinda shy and a bit nervous. He couldn't tell whether the young person was a boy or girl because of the semi ragged and loose clothing they wore along with a hat that was a little too big. Mal would ask Sally and Will about their new friend later.
Mal_
It was a couple of days later and everyone was relieved that the towns efforts had limited the spread of the sickness to a very small group.

This morning business was kinda slow at the moment. So Sally was practicing throwing her daggers at a wall target. She still had room for improvement but at least they all hit and stuck within the target.

Along with his dog Shadow who usually was with Mal he had brought their puppy Ginger. The ginger colored dog was laying on one end of the bartop lazily watching the few patrons.

Mal was seated behind the bar working carving a small gift for his wife out of a small piece of wood.

It was good to have some time to relax before the midday meal rush started.
Eric_vermulen
Eric wandered into the tavern, he tried to convince himself that he wasn't escaping the house and children for a moment....an hour...an hour or two....maybe till dusk.

He would pay for it later of course, but Yuki would forgive him this moment of freedom he felt sure...he stepped through the door and let his eyes adjust to the change in light.

Taking a seat close to the man at the bar, Eric nodded a greeting and offered his hand. "Greetings, I'm Eric... I don't believe we've met as yet."

Who better to help Eric catch up on events...yes, that's what he was doing...catching up!

Mal watched a man come in and take a seat near him at the bar. The man nodded in greeting and offered his hand saying.

"Greetings, I'm Eric... I don't believe we've met as yet."

Mal nodded shock the mans hand and said.

"Hi I'm Mal Elthin. I took over tending the bar here when Tris moved to Southampton. I'm also now a member of the town council. Pleased to meet you."
Eric_vermulen
Eric got himself comfortable as he chatted with Mal about Bridgewater and the journey each had taken to arrive at their current home. Eric was pleased to hear Mal had family with names Eric recognised and remembered...though it seemed a world away now.

Eric's early opinion of the Mayor was reinforced by the strong words of support Mal spoke of when they discussed the town...the Mayor clearly took good care of the town and its people.

A few drinks were had, the fact Eric was breaking his recent abstinence may or may not have been the cause of his falling out of the tavern door on occasion, but it was good to get some drinking done once again.

"I know Yuki will enjoy meeting you, and your wife too sometime soon. Do you live nearby?"

Mal_
Mal enjoyed talking with Eric. When Eric asked if he and his wife lived nearby Mal replied.

"My wife Lali and I live a little outside of town in the forest just east of the orchard."
