The Colony of Bath

pnj
Dear Sir Gregarious,

I am writing to thank you for your true kindness in assisting me yesterday when I was otherwise unable to assist myself. Your gentleness and kind words eased my spirit as you know that I had NO intention of getting to such a state!

I hope that you will accept these dried flowers from my garden as a small token of my gratitude. I know you mentioned that you liked the smell of the flower I wore in my hair one day. These may not be quite as pretty to look at, but they will keep their smell for a very long time. May they bring a sweet smell into your home and a smile to your face.

Always,

Lady Sierra

Sierra then carefully folded the letter and let a few drops of wax drip onto the fold. She then gently pressed a stamp with the initial "R" into the wax- for the family of Radcliff. She then took a piece of twine and tied a small bunch of dried roses to the letter. A young lad who lived near Lady Sierra agreed to take the letter to Sir Gregarious the following morning.

Being a bit sick after these few days of travelling, Baron Nogwa has put himself into bed for 2 days. But now that he has regained his strenght, he comes outside to meet the other participants of the pilgrimage. He sees Fabrizio, Blacx, Amathystzoe, Bishop Syounger, deacon Dishredir, and others.

First Nogwa inspected the grave of Eulaliya...it was a pile of sand with a small wooden cross on it. Nogwa whistled to a few servants and peasant to help him out a hand.

A wooden wagon was brought to the cemetary, and it's cargo was carefully unloaded and placed on the grave of Eulaliya. A few citizens came and look at the statue:

Maybe this a perfect time, to do a mass or pray for our lady Eulaliya.

Edit: @all pilgrims: tomorrow nov. 7th we will travel back to our homes.

A letter arrives from Warwick for Lady Rosalynn.

Quote:
My sweetheart,

I finally arrived in Warwick just before dawn break. The 3 days of relentless riding certainly helped make me feel better. My health has certainly improved, though I must say I am sore and haggard from the journey.

I just learned that the Prince Regent is mustering the troops that had gathered to take Warwick Castle for an impending battle in Scotland. Apparently somebody we both know has chosen to side with the Scots against HRH. I shall also proceed towards Scotland with my liege. Do not worry about me, take good care of your health and eat properly. Also I am glad Rhi is there, she will be able to look after you during your current disposition.

As a reminder, I did hear from Baron Nogwa that the pilgrims from Barnstaple would arrive in Bath to install a statue in honor of Lady Eulaliya at her final resting place. Please give my regards to the Baron and all the people who travelled all the way from Barnstaple. Keep an eye out for the wishful Baron though. I heard he is a terror with the ladies, even married ones.

Anyway, dearest of my heart, I shall keep you treasured here in my heart and mind while I rode forth with HRH to battle. Do pray for our men and the other troops that ride into battle with us.

Eternally yours in love
Sajanzv
Rosalynn
Greatly relieved at Sajan's quick recovery from his worry of her the other night, she avidly reads the letter he has sent to her and with a heavy heart, she retrieves paper and pen and sits down to reply:
Quote:
My love,

I am in hopes this finds you as well as can be possible. I am well as I was when you departed and am behaving myself for the most part.

I am the bearer of sad tidings, my heart. Little Edward, Amy's son, has passed on from Scarlet fever we fear. I've been kept pretty much away from him in the condition I'm in, but had hoped he would rally once Rhi saw to him. The service for him will be in a day or so. Even sadder was that Amy tried to do away with herself in her grief over the poor tot. At least I am lucky in that I have you in my life, but she has not a man in her life to share her grief with. For this I feel all the more sorry for her.

You are decidedly missed my love, although things are going well here at Rhi's home. Her children and tiny Abigail keep all of us busy from dawn til dusk with their demands and antics. As Scarlet fever is highly contageous, we pray night and day the other children haven't caught it or will perish before us. Added to my prayers are those for you, the Regent and the other men to make it back safely to those of us who await your return.

By our calculations, it will be a little less than 8 weeks before our babies enter the world. Oh my, I forgot to tell you my love, from what I've been feeling of late, there is going to be more than one arriving next month. Don't forget to be considering names now, love. Best choose 2 of each, just in case.

Eternally your loving wife,

Rosalynn

She quickly seals the missive and looking outside from the doorway at Rhi's home, Rosalynn flags down a messenger and after giving him several pence and instructions on how to get the letter to Sajan, she can't help but smile softly at the thought of the coming babies. She thinks that at least then, when he goes on patrol or to join the Regent's forces, she won't be as longely as she is presently.
Gregarious
Well me piggies, how are we today.

I've been accused of flirtation?

Where do these people get their ideas? I cannot fathom. I do not understand people. Not like I understand you my friends, yes?

Lady Sierrajane has given me a beautiful letter and some dried flowers! They remind me of her hair. Did I tell you of her hair my pets? Well, they will stay just beside the painting that Arcanjill provided me. Now I have two treasures.

We had some fighting today in the town. It is still a bit of a blur for me. I'm not sure who they were or how many, but we drove them back out of town. Unfortunately there have been casualties.

But, the statue of the blessed saint has also been raised. So a truly glorious and deeply sad day for Bath.

Perhaps I am rightly accused. I know not where to turn anymore. Do I continue to chase the untamable? Or do I turn to someone who intrigues but also returns the interest? Do I dare hope that any of these ladies would ever consider returning affection to one so lowly born? I am not good at these things. Appearantly I'm not very subtle, though I was unware myself of much of what they say I have done. I was only trying to do the right thing. I never thought of love? What is love anyway? Can you tell me my pets?

Ah well, I've enrolled in the militia again today, to make sure the town remains safe. An honest days work for an honest days pay.

Eat my friends, grow my pets, make me proud.

A few days before the funeral...

It appeared the madness was over.

Amy appeared calm as Rhiannon burned every thread of cloth that had been in contact with baby Edward in his disease.

She appeared calm when Bishop Emunah came to discuss the funeral.

She appeared calm, yet distrought, when anyone mentioned the child's name, but no more attempts at suicide occurred.

Perhaps it was speaking to Emunah, as her cousin and as the Bishop simultaniously, or perhaps it was being with Rhiannon and Rosalynn. Rhi didn't know. She had never dealt with grief of this caliber.

She had just seen the children to bed and checked on Amy before venturing to knock on Rosa's bedroom door. A delighted
"Come in!" answered her. Sitting on the bed, tenitively feeling her now portruding belly, Rosalynn grinned as Rhiannon joined her on the edge of the bed.

"Rhi- feel here- is that what I think it is?"

Rhi felt-and grinned. "Aye, I think it is. Two!"

Rosalynn
Blue eyes bright with excitement at the prospect of 2 babies, Rosalynn had quickly penned a missive to Sajanzv to let him know the wonderful news. Thankfully things had calmed down lately and she'd been getting lots of sewing done. Now she set about manufacturing a second of each outfit already completed knowing it would also be needed.

The days seem to meld one into the other as she awaits Sajanzv's return from a trade mission. She absent-mindedly rubs her protuding belly and daydreams about the future and hopes that there is one boy and one girl rather than 2 of one gender. A girl should have a brother to look out for her, she believed. Getting clumsily to her feet, she waddles into the kitchen to fix herself a snack of bread and tea, before seeing to helping out with fixing supper.

Thus far none of the other children have shown signs of illness for which they are all grateful and Rhi had burned everything belonging to Edward to prevent possible contagion. The household was scrubbed down with the strongest of lye soap to disinfect as much as possible. Thankfully it wasn't something as horrible as the Black Plague that came calling. Finishing her snack, Rosalynn heads to the mayor's office to finish up some paperwork and then sets off for the Rubber Ducky to see if anyone else is out and about.

I had finally become a well known trader with his pigs, bread, and veggies. I had opened up a tavern for the soldiers of my town to eat cheap and relax. I loved my life, but it seemed my neighbor loved his pigs more than life itself. I would always look over to see my neighbor talk to them, eat with them, and do whatever else a man can do in a sane way. I would always laugh under my breath when looking at this strange man. One day after I had hired a helper to slaughter one of my pigs and was strolling down the road with the meat that I finally got to meet this strange man. Hello neighbor. That was all I said to him and passed with a smile. I thought to myself as we passed that I will invite him to my tavern and have a couple of drinks with some friends that are comrades of mine. (this is real) In 3 days I will host a party at my tavern with beer as low as I can get it, meat and veggies for 5 pounds all night, but only during the night. I walked with a stronger stride and a wide smile on my face just thinking of the party.

Well me piggies how are we today.

A new tavern has opened in the town. It is difficult to find as it is at the very end of a long road on the outskirts of town (5th on the scroll bar for taverns) but it has excellent atmosphere and even better prices. My neighbour owns it and has invited the entire town to celebrate it's opening in a few days. A truly generous gesture on his part.

I hear that Lady Abrianna may come though town again soon. I think you would like her. She is a very friendly and intelligent lady. *looks arround and lowers his voice* though she often refers to her blond hair? I'm not sure why .

I've received a book of poems from a friend in the tavern last night. I'm not sure why he offered it, but he seemed subdued. I think I will hold it in trust of the day he may wish it back. For now it goes on the mantle with my other treasures. Goodness, if we keep getting these marvelous things we are going to need a larger home wont we my little ones.

Well. I am in the militia for one more day. An honest days work for an honest days pay.

Ohh, and then I have an.......ah...engagement later this afternoon, so I may be a little late. Don't stay up, I will be back before you know it!

Eat my friends, grow my pets, make me proud.

As I was harvesting my veggies I noticed that my neighbor like always was talking to his darn pigs again. I look at my pigs. what do you think guys and gals you ever want to meet those cute piggies? I make a wide eyed face noticing what I had just done. I run inside and take a cold bath.
-fromENBritta
As Britta walked down the path toward the mayors cottage she noticed two men of the town with whom she was unaquainted. She had heard that even tho they were fairly new to town they were prospering. She loved to hear stories of good fortune for the people of Bath. Good fortune for them meant good fortune for all in the town.

When she arrived at the cottage the the Mayor and Lady Rosalyn lived she saw that the Lady was busy. She hung a great bouquet of lavender upside down on the rafters to dry and let herself out the back stopping onl to pet the pet pig.She had errands to run, She needed to go to the river for some special plants and then to the market for bread. She was goiing to ask Meda to dinner and needed something special.

Rosalynn hurriedly left Rhi's today and scurried home to set things to rights before Sajan returns from his travels. Knowing he will be saddle-sore and weary, she tidies everything up and goes to work on fixing a meal fit for a king to ease his hunger.

She hums distractedly as she works kneading dough for fresh bread and doesn't notice until belatedly Britta's arrival and departure. A smile crosses her lips as she notices Britta stop by and pet Spot before continuing on her way. Realizing that it had been some time since she herself had talked with Spot, Rosalynn slices up some fruit and carrying it with her, she heads for Spot's pen. She comes to an abrupt halt, eyes opening wide in surprise as she sees what is also in Spot's pen. Four piglets!!! Rosalynn squeals happily and hurries over to let herself into the pen.

"Spot, my beloved pet, when did you have them? And didn't even let on you were close even. Tsk, tsk, tsk. They are adorable and oh look! That one has a spot over it's eye just like you, same side and that other one has a spot too but over the opposite eye! How did you manage that?" she laughs as she starts feeding the fruit to a voracious Spot. After the fruit has been gobbled down, Rosalynn fills a bucket with more feed for Spot and pours it into her trough checking to make sure she has plenty of water as well. Giving Spot another skritching behind her ears, Rosalynn leaves the pen and returns to her work in the house to get ready for Sajan's arrival.

::After I was done feeding the pigs, watering the vegetables and putting a new pan of dough in the stove I went out to my porch. I sat down in my rocking chair and lighted a pipe. I puffed it a few times making sure it was lit and then picked up my guitar. As I looked around the town playing and smoking I noticed the people of Bath walking passed enjoying life. I also noticed Greg wasn't the only person that talked to their pigs. All of a sudden I started to day dream remembering my past as a child. It wasn't a very good dream because it was about when my father died infront of my eyes stabbed to death trying to save a man. A man I didn't know. I awoke jumping out of my chair kicking the closest thing to me...which happened to be a tree. At first I noticed how bad my foot felt and fell to the ground, grinding my teeth. I looked around making sure no one had seen me do that.....::

Sierra carried a heavy sack back from the market mentally going over everything she bought to make sure she had not forgotten anything. She was making a special supper that evening and did not want to disappoint her guest.

On the way back to her house, she spotted Sparhawk sitting on his porch smoking. Sierra smiled and waved a greeting. He smiled and nodded in response.

As she continues past, she thought that perhaps Sparhawk would appreciate some of the fruit pie she was planning to make for that evening. There probably would be enough ingredients to make two pies....

Sierra's cat, Luke, greeted her at the door. "Are you hungry, my pet?"
She gave Luke some small pieces of meat and then put the rest of it in a large pot she was using to cook her vegetable stew. "Mmmmm....6 o'clock cannot get here quick enough!" She finished adding all the ingredients so the stew would have time to cook down. Then she set to getting the pies ready so she could get them in the oven.

"Only a few minutes left to clean myself up. I wish I had something nicer to wear....sigh, I suppose this will have to do for now."

She heard a knock on the door.

"Coming!" She quickly looked in a mirror, rearranged her hair, and pinched her cheeks for a little color. Hopefully everything would go smoothly...

Well me piggies how are we today.

I've been hired as bar tender for the new bar! That was unexpected.

My engament went well yesterday. It was a beautiful day for it.

I've learned a bit of Lady Sierra's history and you know what. I think it may explain the attack we suffered. Once everything had been cleaned up we found very few bodies. 4 to be exact. We didn't find the 100's that were protecting there baggage train as reported by the scouts at the hieght of the"battle". Another strange thing about it, they seemed intent on taking women.

Now stay with me. Lady Sierrajane is also a Scot. She ran from her father who had pledged her to an evil man. He is powerful in his area of Scotland. A noble, a man of wealth and power. These types of men do not take being crossed lightly. I suspect there were no hundreds of rampaging Scots. I think this was an attempt by a gang of thugs, or men loyal to him to take his daughter home, regardless of her wishes. Mens minds play tricks in the heat of battle. I would swear I saw hundreds of attackers as well. But I can only remember facing two when we rescued Sparhawk. And a few others we chased out of town.

I've not seen Lady Abrianna as yet but hope to see her soon. However, I've a dinner invitation. So I must clean up quick.

I've taken another day in the militia. An honest days work for an honest days pay.

Eat my friends, grow my pets, make me proud.
