The Colony of Bath

-fromENSparhawk21
::When Rosa opened the door and smiles to see that she is doing ok:: I'm ok Ma'am just thought I bring somethin...... ::I hear Rosa's stomach grumble. My eyes went wide with the loud noise:: It would seem so. ::I looked at her stomach:: Now don't say that about yourself you look very beautiful. But what I was saying, Sierra baked me a pie, and I also brought some meat, vegetables, and some warm bread. Thought I would keep ya some company while Sajan is gone off on a adventure again. May I come in? Oh right ::I almost had forgot that I brought my guitar too:: I brought my guitar just in case you would like to hear some music.

Ells continues up the street enjoying very much the brish fall air that pinkens her cheeks and whips her mop of chestnut curls and brings with it the rich heady spiced scents of a busy towne mid harvest.

she heads in the direction of the smoking chimney of the bakery following the smell of yeast heavy in the air as the breads come out of the ovens and cool on the windowsills...the pastries nestled on the counters and the smell of nutmeg wafts from the cooling Pumpkin pies behind the counter....

Mmmm she could hardly wait to smooth some fresh creamy butter on the sliced bread this eve...it would do nicely with the venison stew she left simmering in the huge stewpot out behind her cottage.

She was lost in thought about perhaps tucking some ears of corn in the coal to roast as well when she returned home when she happened to look up and see Spar at Rhi's open door.....Ells called out a cheery Hello to both her sister in law, Rosa and Spar and turned up the walk to ask how her lil niece and nephew were this fine day....admiring Rosa's glow and her growing belly beneath the skirts.

She sees the Pie and compliments Spar on his baking skills...only to hear the delicious pastry was compliments of SierraJane

Ells chats with the pair for a bit before continuing her errands....

The Midday Sun melting the brisk chill of the morning air as she hears the autumn leaves crunching beneath her feet as she reaches the Bakery at last.......

::I noticed Ells and greeted her:: Hello Ells glad to see ya. I was wondering if ya would like to stop by my bakery tommorrow and we could discuss a few things? ::I then stood back and let the two talk a little bit for it seemed that there was a lot of catching up to do. When they were finished I waved goodbye to Ells:: Hope to see ya.
Rosalynn
Before Rosalynn can invite Sparhawk in with his load of goodies, she hears Ells call out a greeting to them. Smiling in response, Rosa waits for Ells to reach them and then quickly catches her up on the latest; that she herself is doing well as are the babes, things seem to be on schedule and that Sajanzv is off again on patrol. When done, Ells comments that she still has errands to do and leaves Sparhawk and Rosalynn to continue on her way.

A bit flustered, Rosalynn ushers Sparhawk in relieving him of the loaded basket while motioning him to a chair at the table.

"Thank you ever so much for bringing all of this by as it smells wonderful and it seems like I'm forever famished," she laughingly replies. "I believe I have grown a bottomless pit for a tummy lately. How are things at your tavern going? I was there for a little while last night and must admit it has become a favorite place for the citizens of late."

While she talks, Rosalynn busies herself with removing the contents of the basket and dishing out some of each onto plates for them to eat from. She slices the fruit and bread and adds those as well.

Rhiannon was as good as her word

It had been roughly 15 minutes since they had left the town proper and entered the less cultivated lands that surround it. The land was climbing slightly and getting more heavily forested, though nothing approaching impassable. Breathing slightly more heavily than he should from the exhertion of keeping up with Rhiannon Gregarious had been taking mental notes as they passed any landmark he thought useful. A lone Oak, a strange fold to the land in the distance, a Mountain top that lined up with one of the game trails they had taken.

Suddenly Rhiannon is no longer moveing. She smiles knowingly over her shoulder and holds back the lower branches of a tree.

Revealed before her is a small glen. At it's centre is a small mound of earth. Man made? Possibly, but if so man made incalcuable years prior. At the crest of the mound is a small outcroping of natural stone. The sunlight is filtering in from the West through the changing leaves giving the entire scene a golden red hue., the grass is an impossible green. Even the smell of the earth is rich and clean.

It's perfect, just as I saw it. Thank you Rhiannon, I knew you would not let me down.

Elvira walked home from her usual evening in the tavern early without having joined much in the conversation and fun. Damn this dizziness, she needed to lay down. She lay back on her pillow and let her thoughts carry her to one who was miles away, slipping into the dream world where he was there at her side again.

Meda shuddered as the wind sent a chill up her spine. She finished her chores quickly, and then hurried inside to warm herself by the fire. The sun hadn’t been able to break through the cloud cover all day, so the only clue of night approaching was a darkening of the already grey sky.

“Time to unpack,” she thought to herself.

Once she could move her fingers again, Meda walked into the bedroom. A large wooden trunk sat in the corner, where it had been placed when she first moved to Bath. The bedroom was colder, as usual, so she pulled, tugged and pushed at the chest until it sat in the middle of the front room. She paused for a moment to catch her breath before she lifted the lid, then began pulling various things out.

The chest and everything in it was a collective gift from her family before she’d moved. Meda called it her winter chest, because she’d figured that it would provide her with something to do wherever she’d find herself that winter. And as Bath was now home, it was time to see what all there was to see.

On top was a huge quilt her grandmothers had made, and her mother and aunts added to. Perfect for keeping warm in the winter months. Several other knick-knacks followed, including several different wooden etchings from her father, from when he was stuck at home and had cabin fever. Several outfits handed down from her mother’s sisters. Candles made by her father’s sister. Various gifts from various cousins, including a pair of horseshoes Kelton had found on the beach. She had no idea what to do with those. At the bottom of the pile was another of her father’s works. He’d etched the works “A Warm Heart Makes a Warm Hearth” in decorative letters into the wood, and polished it. It was perfect for hanging. Or for giving as a gift. And Meda had the feeling someone in particular could use a bit a spirit lift right about then.

She bundled up for a walk to the tavern. She’d been too busy the last few days to visit, so it was time to catch up with the town again. On the way, she made a side stop at Lady Rhia’s house, and asked if Amy was available.

As I was ushered inside my basket taken away from, and then sat down I felt like a little kid again. I and said thank. It's no problem I'm just glad to see that ya have a appitite for it. Aww, yes the tavern. Well, it's being doing fine after a few quirks and some parties it became well known in about a week, but are my manners. I got up from the chair and went over to the kitchen to take over Ya should sit down ma'am. I'm not the one that is about to have kids. Now sit down. I used to cook for my family back home. So don't worry yer purty little self lac. I gave Rosa a big smile and started cutting the veggies, fruits, meat and pie for us to eat. I started humming a old song that my mom used to sing to me at night. So, have ya already named yer kids Rosa or ya goin to wait till they are born and then name em? Also, how would ya like yur meat cooked???

Well me piggies how are we today.

Lot's of news. Lady Abrianna may be here soon. I do look forward to introducing you to her.

I've been scouting and I've finally found the place I've been looking for. And it appears I may be putting it to use sooner than I could have imagined. The future is pulling on me at a pace I've never experienced before. Things are whirling by. I hardly have time to catch my breath!

She of the rolling green eyes was in the tavern today, it was very good to see her. I've not seen her in a few days and truly did miss her. Ah, the tavern it seems Sparhawk chose his time wisely as it seems to be a riotous success at the moment. I'm very happy for him. Though some days I think the people here about do drink to much. I can hardly keep up with the orders some days. Lady Amy gave us a bit of a scare. But Rhiannon seems to know what to do. I do hope she is well, she has not seemed herself of late.

Well preparations and plans my lil ones. I ahve so much to do. I'm working fof Varnifane today and don't wish to be late. An honest days work for an honest days pay.

Eat my friends, grow my pets, make me proud.
Rosalynn
Laughing as she is fussed over, she does as told and sits at the table watching Sparhawk prepare the food.

"Oh no, the naming is being left up to Sajanzv entirely, and is his burden to bear," she laughs. "I figured he'd need something to keep his mind occupied while we are apart. As for how I like my meat cooked, medium rare is perfect, please."

Deciding to get something more done than just sitting there, she goes into her room and returns with the sewing project she is working on at the moment, a christening gown and bonnet, both embroidered with symbols unrecognizable as such to but a few, for health, safety and happiness. One set has already been completed but on discovering more than one was due to arrive, Rosalynn had busily constructed a duplicate piece of work. She keeps up a running conversation while the food cooks and she sews.

"I know he'll name them well, I just pray for their health and well-being especially after Amy's recent loss of her son. God only knows his plans for our futures but that doesn't keep me from worrying what's to become of my children and other's children. One never knows when he or she or a loved one will be struck down in the prime of life or even before life really begins. I've discovered though that I have trouble coming to terms with other people's losses, in how to come to terms with them as since I've not experienced it firsthand, I can sympathize but not empathize. Sympathy isn't my strong suit, empathy is, so I'm at a loss and find myself losing my temper when I shouldn't.

Then to top it all off, our Constable has gone to Chard to campaign for the Patrons for council, which is applaudable in my opinion as I'm hoping the Patrons cause a landslide victory for seats, but looking at it from my position as mayor, he's deserted his post without giving notice. I've checked around and Lucullus has agreed to take up the position, so that will keep any further action from needing to be taken which is a relief to me. I'm very fond of Boomers and definitely don't wish him ill, but this is one case where friendship has to be set aside as the good of the town is paramount.

Oh, did you hear your bartender and Sierra are getting married? It is so lovely to have yet another coupling in Bath as we grow. I truly believe there is someone out there for everyone and they seem to be finding each other here in our town. Hint, hint my friend," Rosalynn laughs. She continues, "Have you found a woman who catches your eye as yet?"

I was busying myself cooking and listened to Rosa talk. Then I looked over to her. You are my kind of girl medium rare. I started to nod and went back to cooking. He better name them or you know who's coming after him....? Your kids. Probably beat him up for it too. I laughed to myself. The next part that Rosa started talking about hit me hard. I stopped cooking, looking down and holding myself up on the counter thinking of my dad. I tried to hide my crying so Rosa wouldn't notice. I wiped my tears away and went back to cooking, but still thinking of my dad.
Well, Rosa, ya can blame Boom for going without notice, but ya should know that he does things without thinking most of the time. I do the same thing as he does some times. I don't think I just do, good or bad. Boom is a good guy and should be slapped around sometimes but give him some slack some times. It will do good in the long run ya know? I did hear about my little Greg getting married to Sierra. I started to laugh. He was acting really shy around everyone in the tavern and finally after the third time asking him he bursted out loud to me that he asked her. It was so funny, he was all red face.
I blushed when she asked me the next question. I have Rosa, but I'm not just going to spoil all the fun by telling you. I gave Rosa a wink. Ok, I will give you a hint. I can't help it when you give me that face. We met her when she came over and interupted us. I gave Rosa a wicked smile and went back to cooking. Then I had remembered something in the tavern from the other night. I stopped cooking and ran quickly to whisper into Rosa's ear. I know I might be spoiling your fun, but I believe Elvira......is a....oh you probably already know. The feeling really sick and everything......I give Rosa a huge smile trying to hold it all in and not blabbering it all out.

After making her rounds of the Market place and speaking with various friends and fellow citizens and taking time for lunch in the tavern and a rousing debate over the forthcoming council election, Ells makes her way back to Thunder and heads for home....she takes the pathway down by the lake hoping to gather some Cattails and wild flowers for her table on the way home...

wandering by the shores of the lake she spies something shiny catching the glint of the sun....quizzically she studies the object as the gentle current brings it closer to shore...and lifting her skirts and ridding herself of her shoes she moves to the bank to try to retrieve it

the warm autumn sun caresses her back as she extends her arm into the waters and grasps the neck of what appears to be a bottle...her fiery curls slip forward over her shoulder and skim the waters edge as she pulls the bottle to her and tries to deftly regain her footing on the slippery bank .....quite damp and disheveled in the end she takes a seat and spreads her skirts to dry around her and toys with the cork in the bottle top....

at last the tight seal gives way and she finds to her great surprise a rolled up piece of paper....and managing to get her dainty fingers in far enough she tugs the paper loose and lays it against the warm woolen tartan of her skirt....carefully unrolling the paper as to not tear it....curiosity getting the best of her....

a gasp from her lips as she recognized the fine script on the paper...and the scent that wafted upward....
her cheeks pinkened as she loving caressed the paper in her hands....

her mind slips back to the town of Bridgewater and the Fiddle player in the tavern...the nights by the fire...and she stares lost in thought out over the water at the forest beyond.....~

Ahhh Garrathe I never expected our paths to cross again...I thought you had chosen a life of the rushing current of the river always moving with the wind, never stopping but for a breath....and I needed the life of a willow byt the tumbling brook...roots...deep roots.

Ells sits and wonders at the wisdom of ever placing ones heart into the rough hands of a man....the uncertaintity...the myriad pitfalls of the much touted state of Love.....and she recalls why she has avoided that state of affairs like the plague thus far....The Lords who have trampled through her life like herded cattle after new spring grass....oh the havoc they wreak.....

~her sapphire eyes lower once more to the paper in her lap as she reads.....

Quote:
Dearest Ellsbeth,

I figured that by sending this message to you via a bottle thrown in the ocean might just be the way back to you. My heart aches as never before with the loss of your voice. I am sure there are reasons for the silence. I am sure there are things I must make up for, yet please do not stay silent. Please at least let me know you are alive and well even if you don't want to stay in contact.

Fondly,

Garrathe

she quickly finds her shoes and tucks the bottle and note carefully into the basket with her days provisions from towne and she Mounts Thunder and digs her heels in with great urgency for him to be away and to Home most expidtiously so that she might dispatch a messenger to Wiltshire to discover where Lord Garrathe was taken by the wind that seems to inspire his travel.....As curiosity does get the best of her....not that it makes a fig of difference....somehow...she tells herself....even as she doubts the same....her mind as tossed and tumbled as the curls down her back caught in the wind.....

The Sunset paints the evening sky in glorious shades of golden red and orange as the leaves of the autumn trees seem to memorialize the very sunset in their lovely canvas.....Ells hair whipping in the wind and blending in with the fiery shades of the Autumn that surround her.....
