The Colony of Bath

Gregarious
An Excellent lunch, dinner and good nights rest had done nothing to ease the pain in Gregarious' side or back. Gennevieve had assured him that his spine was intact. The spear, which he had slung over his shoulder prior to the fight, had taken the brunt of the blow. However, his ribs ached every time he breathed, let alone tried to move.

Despite all this there was nothing for it. He had to be on his way.

Perhaps St. Cuthberts in Durham. I may find solace and treatment there.
He collected his gear, including the shattered spear. and prepared to go.

"Thank you Stanley, you saved my life I've no doubt. That first man would have finished the brigands work had you not come along. Gennevieve, your gentle touch has made the last day so much easier to bear, and made this leave taking just a little more difficult."

To Stanley Gregarious offers 10 Pounds.

"It is poor recompense for my life but it is all I can spare at the moment. I have far to go yet. Please know you have a friend in Bath if you ever need one. I will not hesitate to answer a summons from you."

Stanley refuses the money. "I did nothing and cannot accept this."
Gennevieve also puts her hands up and takes a small step back smiling when Gregarious looks her way.

"As you wish sir, but do not hesitate to call on me if there is ever anything I can do for you. I am in your debt whether you agree or not."

Stanley takes the gear from Gregarious who is labouring under its weigh and takes it outside to stow on the horse that is waiting.Gennevieve steps forward again taking Gregarious' arm. "Watch yourself out there Greg, do not waist my work. It would not be kind of you to get killed after all the work I have put into you. Hear me!"

Gregarious smiles, she is so like her cousin

"I promise m'lady none will be allowed to kill me without prior authority from you."

Gregarious bends slowly to one knee by the bed as if to pick something up, supporting himself with one hand near the pillows. He leaves the ten pounds of coins there to be found later.

Hopefully Stanley will not be to upset. And I will be out of reach of Gennevieve's spoon by then...he grunts from the exertion of the ruse but he also giggles to himself thinking of Gennevieve's spoon. She was as skilled with it as Meda was with her broom.

Stanley returns and helps Gregarious to his waiting horse.

"It is not far up the road you were on yesterday. You should be in towne quickly. So take the ride easy, you'll not be leaving towne again today so take your time getting there. These woods are normally quiet and safe."

Gregarious shakes Stanleys hand firmly and bows his head to Gennevieve. He tosses a knife to Steele who had been taken with the sword on the road.

"It's a start Steele. Learn to use that and perhaps on my way back I'll have something more substantial for you."

Greagaroius then gently knees his horse into a slow walk towards the road and his next destination. St. Cuthberts in Darlington.

St. Cuthbert, he is reputed to have been a soldier first. He will understand my plight. I will go and pray for guidance.Gregarious turns from sight of the house and up the road.

An owl that has been resting under the eaves of the house takes flight.
Rosalynn
Rosalynn paces restlessly back and forth across the floor. Frustrated at being treated like she will break from the slightlest activity and weary of the inactivity she considers what mischief she can get into when next Sajanzv is off on patrol again.

I didn't say anything I just stared into her beautiful eyes. I couldn't look away as if I wouldn't see her in a long time. I then slowly nodded. Yes I will be back for you Jill. I looked down at the ground when I got a idea. I looked back up to her with a smile hoping she will say yes. I just got a idea.... Will you come with me Jill?!?!?! I would really happy if ya could please? Don't make me beg on me knees.

Early morning.... Noresor rummages through his possessions to find the Wooden Stick he bought a while back...

Hmm... this reminds me of the ol' Jo back in my homeland...

And with that, he started practicing what he had learned and had a relaxing day mixed with training and remembering....

"There we go." Meda smiled in satisfaction as she added another basket of veggies to the growing pile in Sierra's storage. When she returned, there would be a nice profit to be made for her. Hopefully it would be soon. Meda's smile faded slightly as worry for her friend's safety invaded her thoughts. Then she shook it away. "Think positive Meda. She can handle herself just fine, you know that. And surely Greg is right behind her. They will be just fine. Have faith in them."

She kept reassuring herself the entire way home, and was so preoccupied she nearly ran into a messenger who was just leaving her home. She apologized quickly, and received a laugh in respone. He handed her a letter, bowed, and continued on his way. Somewhat embarrassed, Meda waited until she was inside to open her message. Her embarassment melted into glee when she recognized her brother's handwritting.

"Gleeful tidings Little Sister!

"I am sending this early, to be sure it reaches you this time. Our family is growing once again. Cousins Marianne and Melissa are to be wed at the turn of the year. Both of them, can you imagine? There have been many suitors in the time since you’ve written last, and we were all taking bets to see which of them would take the leap first. ‘Twas a bit of a shock when they together announced plans for a double wedding. They truly are twins to the heart, alike in all they say and do. It appears they’ve made good matches, though I have some doubts about Mari’s beau. He is a horseman, supposedly studying to be a stablemaster. He has asked to hire on with the crew when the winter winds die, so we shall see then what he is made of. Melissa, on the other hand, has fallen for a local blacksmith. Uncle Raymond seemed particularly pleased with that match.

"So now, sister mine, you have no excuse not to come home. For if I do not hear from you within a weeks time, I am coming to escort you personally. And whomever else you wish to bring."
Meda heard the double meaning in that sentance loud and clear, and made a mental note to greet her brother with a 'playful' kick to the rear.

"Ah Also, hopefully I shall have a surprise awaiting your return as well. ‘twould not be proper if you were not here to greet it with us." Hopefully? 'It'?? What on earth was he planning now?

"Also, perhaps you could pass on these newses to Genna. We have sent her tidings as well, but I fear she may be ignoring them. Perhaps if they came from you, they would be more readily accepted?" Well, perhaps, if she knew where Genna lived, which she didn't. Either way, nothing Meda said would change her cousin's mind once it was made. In that way, among other things, the two women were nearly twins.

"Father and Mother send their greetings, as do the rest of the family. We look forward to your return. And remember, one week, Sister mine."

One week indeed! Meda immediately sat down to write a reply, beginning with the mention that she would definately come, and that she most certainly did NOT need an escort. Then she set the letter aside for the time being, and set about readying for her sister's wedding. Jean had been understandably nervous. Meda didn't want to add to it by being late.

"Will you come with me?"

Go with him to Winchester? I haven't been out of town since I came to Bath.

"I... You're sure I won't be a bother?"

He laughed a little and smiled. "Oh yes, I'm sure. Come on, it'll be fun!"

ArcaneJill looked down at herself. "All right. But you're going to have to wait a little bit. I certainly can't go traveling in a blanket."

Sparhawk shrugged and grinned evilly. "I don't mind."

She shook her head and headed back into the house. "I'll just be a few minutes," she called over her shoulder. It was four days or so to Winchester. She dressed, packed a change of clothing and what bread she had and any other food that she thought might last, and sat down at the table to write a note. She didn't want anyone to notice her missing and decide she'd been kidnapped like Sierra. If anyone came looking for her, the note would tell them where she'd gone. She looked around one last time at her house to see if she'd missed anything. Smiling to herself, she picked up a wilting flower and wrapped it in her spare skirt. She stepped out of the house, pulling the door shut behind her.

"I think I'm ready."
-fromENSparhawk21
I was so happy to hear that she was coming that I went to get her some flowers. As she came out I haned the flowers to her.

"Why thank you Sparhawk they very lovely." She gave me a quick pack on the cheek.

"So yer ready, then lets head out my little lass." I smiled, but she gave me the evil eye which made me laugh. "Ya know I'm a only jokin darlin." She gave me a evil grin, "You better be joking Sparhawk, cause you and I both know who is in charge." She gave out a little giggle, while I had a grin on my face. "Well then lass, lets get to goin."

I helped her onto her horse grabbing her thighs as she went higher on the horse. She gives me a bad look and I looked at her with a confused face. "What?" She rolled her eyes at me and shook her head. I turned around, smiled, and then got on my horse.

"Well we're off then," I said in a low tone almost with sorrow in my voice and looking over to Jill.

"Yeah, I guess so," she then looked at me with a sad look.

I nodded and then turned my horse. She did the same and we had our horses in a slow trot. As we past buildings we looked at them and nodded to everyone we saw almost with a sorrow that we were leaving.....
Arcanejill
ArcaneJill pulled her horse up to a quick stop. "Oh wait!"

Sparhawk looked worried. "What? What's wrong?"

"I.. Gregarious' pigs!"

He laughed. "You had me worried for a minute there!" He looked ahead. "There are still some farms we haven't passed yet. We'll find a child to run a message into town. Hmm... Actually, let's send the message to Meda. She's been taking care of Sierrajane's place and even if she's not willing to take on Greg's herself, she'll find someone who will."

ArcaneJill nodded, smiling with relief at this plan, and they continued on.

I was looking all around for a kid to take a note that Jill wrote for Meda. Finally I found a kid in a nice looking tunic near a church. I leaned over to Jill. "I wonder what's happening here?"

She looked over at the church and then the kid and shrugged, "I don't know, but there is a kid from town we can use."

I yell to the kid asking him to come over. He hesitated and then ran over.

"Hey lad can ya do me a favor? Can ya take this letter," Jill handed the kid the letter, "to Meda for us? This is really important." The kid smiled at us and then said, "Meda is inside the church for Jean and Dunn's wedding." Jill and I both gave the kid a smile to the boy.

"I thank ya lad," I then handed him ten pounds and he ran off. "I guess we go inside. Hopefully we don't disturb the wedding," Jill said with a smirk. Then two people came out and it was Jean and Dunn. "I guess ya won't have yer chance darlin," I laughed and got off my horse when I had finally spotted Meda.

"Hi Meda it's me Sparhawk. Can ya do Jill and I a favor by taking care of Greg's pigs while we are gone or find someone to take care of them?" Meda looked over to me surprised I was there and said, "No problem Sparhawk, but when did you get into town and why are you leaving?"

"I'm going to Amy to help take care of her and I got back a week ago, but I'm kind of in a rush. I'll see yas in a week or so." Meda waved to Jill and then smiled at me, "I see you are bringing company." My face turned a deep red. Meda laughed and just left it at that saying goodbye. I said goodbye too and got back on my horse....
Gregarious
Evlet is located next to Durham across the river Wear. Crossing a strong stone bridge to Durham Gregarious is struck by the sight of the town walls and the Cathedral and adjoining castle of Durham. The town, even in December, is alive with merchants, sailors and of course pilgrims everywhere.

Entering the town through the main gates he passes merchant housing, a grand market and finally enters the Cathedral grounds. The Cathedral is not one building but many. The main Cathedral is flanked on it's eastern side by the Chapel of the nine altars, this is where St. Cuthbert's tomb is located. To the west is the Galallee Chapel, the woman's chapel as women are forbidden to enter the rest of the buildings. Durham castle, built by the Normans is located close by, as are the monks quarters. All in all the effect is impressive. The buildings all of stone soared to the heavens.

Entering the main Cathedral Gregarious sees the Bishops Throne. Beside that is a Screen hiding the Saint's resting place. The screen contains 107 alabaster figurines. Wainscot lockers contain centuries of gifts from kings, nobles, clergy and rich merchants. Behind the screen the pilgrim's are in the presence of the Saint's tomb itself. An awesome configuration of green marble and gold.

"Impressive no? I come very year to give thanks to St. Cuthbert for my lucky the year before. I've taken him as my personal guardian." A giant of a man winks at Gregarious.

" It is indeed sir. If he is yours I'd appreciate it if you would go first and introduce me. I've come looking for guidance." Gregarious smiles and allows the man to pass in front of him towards the tomb.

Gregarious has little to offer but passing through the market he had spied a man selling small lead statues. He had noticed a small owl among the man's wears and thought it appropriate.

"T'is a good offering." the giant had already placed an intricate silver chain and Celtic Cross as offerings earlier. "I am a silver smith. I tour the North and Scotland offering my skills in the lager towns and villages. It has been a very good year. Now I return to my home in Kinloss."

Gregarious had feared the saint had not heard his plea. Now he was not so sure. "Truly? Perhaps we can be of service to one another. May I accompany you? I am on my way to Scotland, but am unfamiliar with the country. In return I can offer my sword and my companionship."

Meda did her best not to, but she couldn't help laugh when Spar changed colors at her comment. She assured the pair that she would find someone to care for the animals, and wished them a safe trip. She watched the couple go, then turned back to look at Jean and Dunn.

"Hmmm," she thought to herself. "Must be something in the ale."

She returned to the festivities. Chores could wait until later.

Rosalynn
Growing impatient from her cumbersome weight and tiring quickly from her pacing of the floor, Rosalynn pulls a shawl around her shoulders and goes outside to check on Spot and her piglets as the temperatures have dropped drastically of late. Having had the workers construct a chute of sorts leading from the pigpen into the warmth of the barn and a pen with lots of straw for them to bed down in, Rosalynn hadn't been out to check the progress or completion of the project. Seeing no animals out in the outdoors pen, she opens the door of the barn and enters, waddling over to the far corner where the new pen was to be constructed.

She sighs softly as she sees Spot lazying about with the four piglets gathered closely around her.
"Ack, I envy you my pet, as I'm unable to cuddle up close at night as my belly gets in the way. I do so miss it." Watching the pig family for a few moments longer, Rosalynn turns away and after stopping at Neptune's stall and offering him an apple to eat, she heads back to the house.

Feeling a sudden urge to clean, she runs dishwater and places the used dishes into the water to soak before retrieving the broom and starting at one end of the house, sweeps the floors gathering what little dust and debris there is into a small pile and then sweeping it out the front door and off the porch. Returning inside, she quickly does up the dishes, then gathers the dirty clothing and sets up the washtub. Scrubbing the clothing clean, she rinses them in a separate tub of clean water, wrings them out setting the wrung out clothing in a basket. Carrying the basket outside, she lays the clean clothing over the bushes to dry. Back inside again, she sets to work on supper; peeling vegetables and setting a pot of water with spices, the vegetables and cubed meat are set to simmer and cook. Mixing up a batch of dough, she bakes several loaves of bread so that fresh bread may be served with the stew. She makes the bed and tidies up the nursery although it hasn't been used yet. She can't help but smile at the piles of clothing and nappies awaiting the twins' arrivals as she's put much work into it.

Rosalynn sighs whistfully as she's driving herself crazy whatwith so many close friends being out-of-town all at once and Sajanzv's council position keeping him very busy. How can a person be so lonely, yet not be? Still puzzled and having cleaned as much as possible, Rosalynn decides to take a walk in the forest, so leaving the house, she heads down the lane through town waddling awkwardly in her rush to reach it. Upon entering the forest, it feels like a great burden has been lifted from her shoulders as she inhales the fresh scents of the trees and air. She starts off by following a well-used path but then veers off as she explores further and further into the forests depths.

They traveled in a close knit pack mounted on horses. The sun was high in the sky and burned off the morning cloud cover. Sierra clung to her chestnut stallion, feeling his muscles move beneath her. The pace had been relentless since the journey came to land. Her thighs ached for a break, but Asa made no move to slow down. He clearly had a deadline in mind and she worried as to what it could be.

They had traveled through the grassy plains the previous day. Sierra longed to stop near the cool waters and rest a bit longer but breaks were short during daylight. The evergreens now closed in upon them casting their shadow along their path. Now might be her chance. It would be more difficult for Asa to follow her in the dense forest. Then again, it would take some fancy riding on her part if she hoped to get away.

The riding group was bunched together–she needed to change her position to be able to escape unnoticed. Every so often she pulled the reigns and dropped down a position in line. Asa was busy in front talking with one of his men and occasionally making a comment to Vanessa. He had not appeared to notice that she was no longer behind him. Within an hour she was at the end of the line. Every moment killed her to stay where she was but she knew this needed to be a calculated decision. She glanced up front to see what Asa was doing and she saw Vanessa looking back at her! Sierra’s face ran pale. Any moment she would turn to Asa and inform him of her moment. Vanessa turned back around in her saddle. Sierra waited and held her breath. Five minutes went by and nothing. Vanessa began talking to Asa and still said nothing. She glanced back at Sierra and winked. Vanessa was going to help her!

Sierra smiled broadly at Vanessa and mouthed ‘thank you’, then quickly pulled her stead off the path and headed toward the trees. She longed to ease the horse into a gallop but knew it would only call attention to herself. They trotted slowly...painfully slow til they had disappeared into the trees. She looked back to the trail every once in a while to see where the group was. They became smaller and smaller down the path.

Above the sound of trotting hooves she heard a man curse loudly followed by the snap of a whip. She had been discovered! Sierra jabbed her knees into the stallions sides and the beast lurched into action. She lowered herself in the saddle til she almost laid upon his back. The trees whizzed by on either side. Branches slashed at her arms and face as they rode threw the trees. Her heart seemed to beat in time with the stallion’s hooves. She began to her the echo of a second and third set of hoof beats through the forest. Her hands grabbed the horse's reins tighter as she zig zagged through the trees.

Looking ahead she saw a deep ravine running across. Quickly she scanned the area but could see no way around it. She knew they would have to change direction. Sierra began to veer to the left toward a large grassy area. Her feet kicked the beast’s sides and they bolted ahead once more. She noticed a slight movement in the bushes up ahead but there was no time to change direction now. One of Asa’s men galloped out of the bushes in front of Sierra and startled her horse. The stallion reared and whinnied in distress. Her hands grabbed the reins but she couldn’t hold on. She fell to the ground and rolled to a stop a few feet away. Sierra scrambled to her feet gasping in pain. Something was broken but she could not just stay there and be caught. Her fear and anger propelled her on and she ran through the woods as fast as her legs could carry her. Branches tore at her clothes and flesh. Tears began to blind her vision but she roughly wiped them away and ran on. She didn’t know where she was running–just away from HIM. Silently, she prayed for an angel's wings to speed her flight.

Jean had been so busy the last few months that she hadn't had time to spend time with her friends and her dear sister Meda. Everyone smiled and waved at the now Mrs Dunn. News seemed to fly through the town like water in a river.

Within five minutes of walking in town she had heard that Greg had gone to rescue his kiddnapped fiance. Bfp was moving to another town and Mayor Rosa was due with twins in the next week or so. It was alot to take in. Jean was just glad to walk around her town and watch everything go by.

Jean decided to visit Meda before she went into the tavern.

Salisbury was the first stop, then on to Winchester. By the time they approached Salisbury, ArcaneJill started to realize she was tired. They'd been talking, laughing, and flirting as they rode, and her fatigue and hunger went barely noticed. She hoped there would be some sort of good hot meal in the Salisbury tavern. She knew there would be good company no matter what...
