The Colony of Bath

-fromENSparhawk21
After the whole ordeal with losing time and not knowing what happened to my cows I started back up with work again. It is a wonderful life spending time with Jill not having to go anywhere. Most mornings I would wake up and do my chores before the sun would rise. I would then sit on my rocking chair on the front porch and watch the sunrise smoking a nice pipe of tobbacco. Sometimes if Jill was awake she would come over and sit next to me in her chair to enjoy in the beautiful site. I would smile at her then give her a kiss saying how much I loved her. It was starting to turn dark so I went inside to help my wife cook dinner. We were both experts at cooking and we knew where each other was and what each were doing. We seemed so rythmic in our moves through the kitchen. We both sat down talking and chibbering and what had happened that day. I was so proud of her making mayor. I indulged most of the time listening to her as she spoke. Then I interrupted her.

Darlin, excuse me I know how much ya dislike him, but I just wanna say that my duties are going to start kicking up again and that soon I will be going on escort duty. I know how much this upsets ye, but we both have ta make sacrifices.

I look down at my plate feeling a big bomb go off in my gut.

Most likely sooner than ya think. I just have one question fer ya and I want the truth.

I waited a moment.

Do yas want me ta quite?

Jill's heart fell when Spar started talking about going on patrol again. Having her husband back these past few days, especially after he'd went missing unexpectedly, was simply wonderful. But she knew it was coming.. Part of being married to a military man. She could only nod sadly. She noticed him look down and take a deep breath as if gearing up to say something.

"I just have one question fer ya and I want the truth."

She waited, the look in his eyes scaring her as to what the question could be.

"Do yas want me ta quit?"

Jill took a deep breath and pushed her chair back from the table. She was silent for a moment and then looked up at Spar. He looked torn, like it was killing him to ask this.

"Love, I knew when I married you what it would entail." She took another deep breath. "I would love nothing more than to have days like this every day, to have you home all the time. Our house feels so big and empty without you. As does our bed," she smirked and winked at her husband.

She paused again to get up and settle herself in Spar's lap. She smoothed his hair and ran her hand along the side of his face, smiling as he turned toward her touch and leaned into her hand.

"I love you, my Sparhawk. I wouldn't ask you to give up anything so important to you. And I'll be right here waiting for you when you get home."

With a cold lump of bread in my hand, I sat down outside my house watching the beautiful sunset. AS the sun sank lower, lower and lower, I munched on the hard and unappetising lump of... The irony of it all, I smiled to myself. To think that the shiny, wavy, golden wheat right in front of my eyes could turn into that unappetising stuff I was holding in my hand was quite ridiculous. Tomorrow was harvest day, and I would again be lugging the bags of heavy wheat off to the market. How was I supposed to do that just by eating this miserable bread? Disgusted with the extreme blandness of the bread, I stood up and headed for the town centre.

"DIE you stupid lump of manifested wheat!" I shouted and threw the bread into an empty field. I would feast at the tavern tonight!

Sierra walked along the path that led to Spar and Jill's home. It wasn't a long trip but the air was chilly and Sierra looked forward to getting back inside. She walked up the steps and saw the firelight flickering in the window. She knocked on the door and waited. She heard some movement and then someone walking to the door. Jill opened the door and then smiled when she saw Sierra.

"Come in, come in! We have a nice fire going that you can warm yourself by. What brings you by tonight, Sierra?"

Sierra embraced her friend and came inside to stand near the fire. Sparhawk gave her a tackling hug and the two cousins laughed together.

"Well, actually...I was here to ask Spar a favor..."

"What canna do fer ya lass?"

Sierra explained the letter that Lady Catherine had received and how both of them would like to go for the christening.

"I wondered if you would be so kind as to acompany us to Scotland. We probably would stay only a week since I have responsibilities here in town. I thought maybe Jill might be able to come as well...it would make the trip that much more fun and she would get to meet more of the family! What do you say?"

I look over to Jill and she looked at me. We bot smiled then started to laugh.

Not ta offend ya cous, but we were just talkin about escorting people.

I smiled and then gave Jill a look that I wanted to go.

Well darlin, what do ya say? Do ya want ta go?

Darell is very sad today ! He doesn't know why, but his cows don't grow ! 7 days and still bony ! And yet, he takes care very much of them ! He gives them only first quality grass ! But no way, they don't grow ! In two days, he will try to buy a fourth cow, maybe it will stimulate them ! Maybe it is a bull, he would have to buy !
This afternoon, Darell had a good idea ! He knows what is missing in this town ! It is... ! No, not now ! As he is not ready to implement it, he keeps it for himself, but soon, very soon, he will start it ! For the moment, he needs money, lots of money in order to prepare it !
This evening, he is speaking with "Marguerite" and her friend, and enjoying the night, he will sleep outside under the stars ! Again a good day spent !
-fromENSelthres
Selthres leaned against the cold gey wall of his house, eyes surveying the large shoots springing up out of his wheat field. Soon it would once again be time for the harvest, time for work. Yet for now he had naught but to close his mind and feel the warm fingers of an afternoon wind flow through his hair, silent ripples spreading across his dark green tunic.

A brilliant orange sun began its decent from the deep blue sky as wisps of smokey white cloud glazed across it. Lazily, Selthres paced slowly back around his small thatch-roof house toward the city streets. A small cart rolled passed, its stark wooden wheels grinding against the stoned covered roadway, carrying several bundles of wood from the nearby forest; oak by the looks of them. The man who drove the cart did not seem familiar to Selthres, but that did not bother him. Dispite his time in Bath, Selthres had generally kept to himself and his work (or lack of it, as might rather be the case) and was not very familiar with the people of the town, save for the few met in recent nights at the tavern. Selthres smiled, remembering those evening of jokes, brawls, and (of course) alcohol!

Truly, not a very serious bunch there, he thought to himself. Of course, I would not have it any other way!

He looked up from his thoughts, realizing that he was already halfway across town, the sun hanging low on the western horizon behind him, casting long black shadows before the tavern door.

Heh, why not?

The sun was setting and Sierra was sitting on the porch staring into the last dying embers of the sun's rays. Lady Catherine sat down on the bench beside her and put her hand on Sierra's shoulder.

"You haven't said anything about the wedding plans for quite some time, Jane...is everything alright?"

Sierra didn't move or make a sound for what seemed like an eternity. One tear escaped and ran down her cheek--evidence of what Lady Catherine had already suspected.

"There isn't going to be a wedding, Mother."

Catherine grabbed her daughter's hand and gave it a firm squeeze. The two women sat in silence until the moon rose and the stars dotted the sky.

"Did you want to talk about it?"

"Sigh...there isn't much to say. I think we just grew apart. I still care very much about him but...I guess we were only supposed to be friends..."

"Well, then I think this is an excellent time to go visit your sister. You need to get away for a bit...oh sweetie, I am so sorry..."

"It's ok Mother...it's ok...I need to pick up the pieces and move on."

Jill could see her husband was eager to travel, and that the idea of going back to his homeland was almost more than he could take. But... She sighed.

"I'd love to go with you. I'd love to see Scotland! But.. Look at the problems that I've had to deal with just in my short time as Mayor. I can't imagine what would happen if I were to leave for a week."

She looked at both her husband and her dear friend with a wan smile.

"I'm afraid I can't go with you right now. Perhaps another time, after I have passed the office along."
Rosalynn
After a tear-filled leave-taking from the twins, entrusting them to the safekeeping of a trusted neighbor, Rosalynn returns to their own home, her stomach all in knots as she makes preparations to depart. The grant she held for the Town Hall has been changed having received permission from the mayor to use it for trading if the opportunity comes available. She'd assured Bath's mayor as well that trading become a possibility, she will first contact the mayor of the towns before placing any goods on their markets and only in amounts of 10 maximum. She checks the small satchel she'd packed with a change of clothes and enough food to see her through for several days and to her intended destination. She paces the floor in agitation, anxious to be on her way. It had been a long time since she'd ridden Neptune for any distance, so she was pretty sure he would be all up for the exercise, temperamental though he was at times. Her lithe, wiry body had regained its sleek, muscle tone since the birth of the twins several months ago leaving her fitter and more healthy than she'd ever been in before.

Leaving off from wringing her hands in nervousness, and riddled with guilt about deceiving her husband, she removes paper and writing utensil from her desktop and sits down to pen the love of her life, her husband Sajanzv:

Quote:

My dearest love,

I beg of you not to think ill in regards to your, what must appear as a wife gone astray, one who loves you from the depths of her being who seems to have fled for no reason. Please know that is far from the truth, I've not taken leave of my senses, at least not as of yet. Know that I am safe and will be safe and protected from harm. I will miss you, Rhoswen and Tanvir dreadfully, inwardly pining, hating the distance which separates us. Know this though, as soon as I am no longer needed, I will return as fast as Neptune can carry me, back to you and our children.

There is much I cannot explain at this moment in time, as some of it came about in a manner I've yet to understand my own self, as swiftly as twas done. You may rest easy though, tis nothing I've done or will do, to have legal repercussions. I leave my fate to Jah, and pray for a positive outcome in this endeavor and that you, my heart and soul, will forgive me for not having had the courage to say these words to you, rather opted for committing them to an inanimate piece of parchment.

Your loving and devoted wife and sometimes addle-pated sweetheart,

Rosa

Leaving the paper on the table, she rises quickly and absentmindedly goes to the kitchen sink to wash her face, fighting back the tears as an overwhelming feeling of loss, felt deeply for no known reason that she can fathom, strikes her. Arguing with herself, a no-win situation most times, causes her to shake her head in denial and turns from the sink. Going into the bedroom she shares with Sajanzv with the twins'cradles off to one side, she removes the gown she had been wearing, and dons shirt, trousers and shoes, suitable for travel. Taking a last look around, mentally checking off the items she's packed to be sure she's got the necessities she hefts the pack and before she can change her mind, she leaves by way of the front door. Crossing the veranda, she heads for the barn, the scabbard with her sword nestled securely inside, bumps awkwardly against her thigh. A brief shudder courses through her at the thought that she might finally have to put it to use and there being a big difference to fencing with objects that don't move and a real, flesh and blood person. She calms the sudden case of nerves threatening to overwhelm her and continues on her trek to the barn.

As she passes the pens, Spot and her brood oink in a distracted manner, their attention from their supper in the trough barely wavering as she walks by them. As she enters the barn, Neptune whinnies in greeting. He appears restless and eager to be on road almost as much as she does as well. She strokes the velvety-smoothness of his nose, then readies him for travel, then leads him out of the barn and over to a tall stump. Stepping up on the stump, she swings a leg over Neptunes back and once seated, using the reigns, she turns him away from the stump and towards the
road in front of the house. Once on the main road, she presses her heels to his sides to set him into a quicker pace. With deft motions of the reigns, she guides him along the least-traveled of the roads surrounding Bath, uneasy should she be spotted before reaching the outskirts of town.

"Thank you!" I said to the laborer as he packed up the last bag of wheat, which would be used for the next seeding. Hiring people rocks, I smiled to myself, as I placed the wood that I had gathered from the forest into the cart together with 9 other full bags of wheat. I decided to take the long route to the market today, as the day was still fine and the air smelled good. Besides, I had been living in Bath for quite a long time and still had not explored its surroundings. As such, I travelled down the road less travelled by.

It was just a few days into Spring, but the flowers had already started to bloom and the playful scent of the season was in the air. This is the life, I thought to myself as I lugged the cart on. Suddenly, I heard the sounds of a galloping horse in the distance. I ran up towards the horse for a closer look. To my surprise, it was our ex-mayor, Rosalynn! What was she doing riding a horse around Bath? And on the least-travelled roads too!

"Hello Lady Rosalynn," I shouted towards her. "Today is a fine day isn't it?"

No luck for Darell, today ! He found no job, so he went to the church in order to clean it and to repair the bench ! It is not like that, he will be able to buy his fourth cow ! After his job at church, he went back home and played with "Marguerite" ! Not a tiring day, today !
Diannathedaring
At sunset, Dianna stood and surveyed her corn field. The ears were full and ripe and tomorrow would bring the harvest.

Life was good here in Bath.
Sajanzv
Sajanzv had returned back home, tired from his day in the office. He opened the door and there was no Rosalynn to give him a kiss and a much wanted hug. He wondered where she had gone. As he was removing his clothes to get ready to take a bath, he notices a letter on the table. He quickly reads it

Sajanzv is stunned. Where did she go? Where are his children? Forgetting about his bath, he dresses quickly and rushes outside to search for Rosalynn and the children.

Life is funny sometimes. One minute you're sitting in a nice warm tavern talking to friends and the next you find yourself rolling across the street in a cloud of dust, scattering chickens, and frightening small children. It's not a dignified exit by any means, but you just have to hope it wasn't something you said and that if it was, well that your friends will forgive you.

wandering off to my job brushing off the dust, straightening my clothes and hair and hoping that no one saw that

OOC: Either the taverns are broken again or my firewall is acting up. Is anyone else having trouble?
